Hi everybody, it's Cortney from 9 by Design!
This is a very exciting and crazy time in our lives! The second episode of our new show is super-fun, and one of our favorites.
In this episode, I’ve given birth to a healthy baby boy we named Major Robert Novogratz, after Robert’s dad, who was a major in the Army. We have been so blessed to have amazing kids, and I never take any of them (or any aspect of our lives) for granted even for a minute.
Taking Major home from the hospital is a highlight on the show. All of the other kids were super-excited to see him. And Major figured out quickly he is loved, as everybody fought to have their chance to hold him. He is a very chill kid, which is a good thing after having Five and Holly, who are the wild children of the family. One of the most interesting things about parenting is how different each of the children is, regardless of the family environment and the parents’ impact. Every child arrives with a specific personality, and that is really fun to explore together as the children grow.
I get inspired by your show, as well as your book, Downtown Chic. Of course, I don't have your budget but I get motivated to try new things in my own home. Thanks.
Congratulations on the new baby! I'm so glad for you that Major seems to be a relaxed baby. Five and Holly are definitely wild, but they're so cute. I hope you keep the new house for a while. My favorite room is Bellamy's and Tallulah's - it's gorgeous.
just love the show!!!!!!!!! so much positive energy is coming from you, 7 kids and still big smile on your face- loooooove your attitude:))). can't wait till next episode!!!!
Cortney, I love the show!! Your kids are so cute and I love how they take care of each other!! I can't wait to see the rest of the season.
Courtney, I am so proud of you and Robert and your 7 beautiful children..... Your show is such fun and exciting. Lou Ellen and I look forward to seeing the next one. You are soooooooo creative and so talented. You really know how to roll with the punches with those children. I know your family is proud... We look forward to what is to come. You are a hit with us.... Love from Columbus...... Jeannette Schorr
I wondered how you pulled off that last shot of you and Robert in the house. Very cool! Your family is great to watch. I love how they all pitch in and help one another- you're very blessed!
Seriously love your show!!! I liked your show BUT when I saw yall are Obama supporters I began to LOVE your show lol!!!
I posted comments on Bob and Tallulah's message boards, last week.
I mentioned to Bob that I am artsy and that I'm SO excited that MY kind of people are on tv!! (you can read what all wrote him about me, being from AlA and being artsy)
My definition of creative, is not: some interior decorator, who follows the rules of desigh and only does that. Or a fashion person, who only conforms, blindly to the masses. And, it is NOT somebody who names their kids, prosaic names, like Chase.
But, MY defintion of creative, is: people who actually create things, in some way shape or form. Not the enjoyers of the creation, per se. Such as the conforming interior decorator, enjoys the what someone else has created,--someone eles's rules of design-someone else's furinture design, but that is all. he never creates, anything himself.
But, YOU and Bob are VERY creative!!! You are MY kind of people!! I believe a creative person does, is always trying to do something outside of the box, break free from the masses. Be an indivual. And, when this person doesn't conform, they don't care. Don't care that they are ridululed, by the masses, don't care what the masses reaction is. They are not trying to fit in the first place.
From what I can tell, that is YOU and that is ME and my friends.
One of my closest friends, named his kids: Ever So, Ginger Lee, and named his both of his twins And/Or. Another dear friend of mine, named his boy Banjo and his girl Posie.
I don't have any kids. I will buy 5 from you. (That was mentioned on this episode that you may need to sell 5.) He's the cutest!!
Cortney, I'm enjoying the show. I loved how you primped that small 2-bedroom apt. to something really cool and chique with your flea market picks.
You and your husband seem like great parents. Very kind and patient with your kids. I will say, that I'm not so big on how you're raising them - moving them from one place to another. Kids need order, routine and stability in their lives and there doesn't seem to be any of that in your household. On the flip side, I think it's wonderful that you encourage them to help out around the house, pulling their own weight - down to the second to youngest! Kudos to you for that! They seem to be well-adjusted and always love the adventure of moving. Kudos to you for that!
I guess I should mention that I LOVE your new place! Your designs are HOT! Keep up the good work!
9 By Design , Where have you been all my life ? What a wonderful family to be apart of ! It is so refreshing to see creative people at work and at life.........................Bravo to Bravo for an outstanding show. It's an honor to be a guest in their home or shall I say homes ? XO XO XO XO XO XO XO XO XO XO MISSY
I absolutely love your show. You and your amazing family are a true inspiration. You have absolutely adorable children and pure skills in the design department. Thanks for sharing your life with us. I will be tuning in for every episode no doubt.
Love, love, love your show! We live in Manhattan as a family of 6. It's nice to see another big family in the city:-) We all know that's a rarity. Your design sense is absolutely amazing. Really amazing. I know this is going to be my new favorite show! Blessings to you and your family!
Cortney, I'm really enjoying your show and have told a lot of friends about it so they're watching now, too. I love the vitality of your family. Even in two episodes, the love shines through. I love art and design, although I have zero ability myself, so it's fascinating to see a lifestyle built around creativity. Thanks for allowing us a window into your world!
First of all, congratulations on your beautiful new baby boy :) He is absolutely adorable, and I love how he is just wide-eyed, taking it all in. Major's homecoming when he got to meet all of his siblings was so heartwarming as they were truly delighted. As one of the youngest of nine children, I know first hand the benefits of having so many older siblings who love and care for you while you are growing up. That's probably one of the best things about the show - demonstrating the joyous chaos of a big family. People focus too much on all of the activity going on in the house and label it as "unstructured", but anyone who has lived it knows that there is a method to the apparent madness and what I see is a bunch of kids who are responsible, respectful, and contributing very actively in their household. As I said in an e-mail to one of my siblings yesterday, "what one person labels "stress" and "hectic" is a labor of love to someone else. Enjoying all of the love pouring off of the screen...and your house is amazing. As always, best wishes to all of you.
thank you Bravo for getting it right!!!! A great hard working family with kids that are the parents top priority. The family works hard and reaps the rewards and their lack of pretentionous is heartwarming. The real housewives of all the cities could learn something from this family. LOVE IT!!!!!!
I love your show! Being the single mom of three, two girls 10 and 17, and newly acquired member cousin who is also 17. Working two jobs, finishing graduate school and dealing with all of their antics, I thought my life was hectic! Watching your show makes me feel good about my crazy life. Parents are able to manage chaos as long as you have your ground rules.
Courtney - you and Robert were so great when you sat your kids down about rules for them in the new house. Robert was brilliant being a stern parent. Finally, a reality show that's reality 'cuz that's how normal parents talk to kids.
Love the vibe and fun of your family and how you guys have your priorities straight - kids stay in their neighborhood school, eating out despite the chaos, and Wolfie peeing on the street. It's easy to feel the love in your house.
And, lastly, your kids will never suffer with all of the moving because that's their normal. They'll be fine.
I love the show and looking through the on line photos for inspiration. We left the NY area a year ago for coastal NC,( being a magazine fanatic I do remember various pieces on your family and loving your style) I do miss the flea markets and design inspiration of the city. The show is like a walk through a great flea market or shop and leaves me inspired and moving furniture! I would like to know where you hide all the army men and trucks...Looking forward to more episodes!
Hello Cortney,
I want to thank you and your family. I randomly selected this channel and was blessed with the story of your happy family and inspiring story of success and happiness.
I have been so discouraged and lost lately. I turned 40 recently and I keep "feeling" like I should be doing more with my life. I had esatablished several "poor" excuses to justify my lack of motivation until I met the Novogratz Family.
I literally feel empowered! You guys are a true example of working hard and the success that comes along with it. I do wish I could meet you. I wish I could work WITH you! I am actually an "organizer" and I would love to "organize" something with you guys.
I am a forever fan!
I love this show! And I love your kids! You seem to be very loving parent and you have greats children. I can tell already that 9 by Design will be my favorite show!! I love the new house!!
My congratulations on your showing the importance of art to promote a sense of wellbeing in your excellent spaces! While I know you said it was you husband's job to place the artwork, your placement of that piece behind the tub was brilliant.
I look forward to more of the series, from the design work to the truly personable children.
Your homes and your family are fantastic. Our family will finally be moving into our renovated home after a 14 month build (8 months late!). I don't know how you and Robert maintain your energy and creative level! I thought it would be fun creating a personal space that would reflect our exceptional taste. Wrong! How do you and Robert do it?!!
You are raising children who are respectful and well behaved because they have firm and loving parents. Thank you for letting us peek into your work and family.
Love, love your unique buildings, interiors and art. I've TiVo'd your program so I don't miss a single creative moment. Wish you could list the products and resources you use in your homes though!
You guys are such talented designers, but more than anything it's your vibe that I love. You seem like such happy, lighthearted people and such a great family. I love how Tallulah is so similar to Cortney. Like, she already has a bullshit detector, it's hilarious.
Your show is so terrific, my husband & I absolutely love watching your family operate. We also give you a ton of credit because you really know how to roll with the punches and get things done all at the same time, very impressive! Can't wait to see the next 6 episodes!
I just love, love, love your reality! Your family is beautiful and you two are such wonderful parents. It is really good to see a "HIP" family on Bravo that flows. COOL, I guess, is the word for you guys.
I was fascinated by that shot at the end of the episode and wondered how it was done. Thanks for the info. I have really enjoyed the first two episodes of your show and am crazy about your style.
And, Cortney, I meant to mention, if you ever want a career change, you could definitely star in the Demi Moore story!
By far the best reality TV show. Like a breath of fresh air. Amazing family, cool hip people and adorable great children. Thank you so very much.
I LOVE your show! I am also the lucky mom of 7! Mine range from 8 to 19. Enjoy the fun wild ride as they grow...it is a blast!
I am a mother of 3 crazy boys. We want to have a few more. I came from a family of 11 kids--so I can relate. There is something special about a big family. I wish more people saw the value in that. Hopefully you will inspire a few. I love how you are so true to yourself. You own who you are and love it. I am ready to hit up the flea market! You have really inspired me. I want to take my home to the next level.
You guys are great love the show , by far the best new show on t.v . I can't wait to see more, btw love the way you guys are a family first nice to see,and your kids are all beautiful...
This show is FABULOUS!! The children are beyond precious, and Courtney you are clearly a beautiful person- inside and out! I'm in awe of how you juggle everything and stay cool, calm and collected! You are the greatest addition to Bravo! I wish you and your family all the best.
It really seems like you have such a beautiful aesthetic that transcends all areas of your life and your risk taking sensibility is such an admirable quality. I love watching and can't wait to see more!
I LOVE your show. Your buildings/decorating are so unique! Love the flea market buys! The love in you family is so heart-warming. Loved Wolfie showing the younger ones how to fold clothes-so sweet. Bless you and your wonderful family.
I had never seen a show on Bravo like this (translate: refreshing, fun, stylish and visually delicious). I was hooked from the first episode. Both your family and sense of style are gorgeous and contagious. You took Bravo up a notch. Thank you!
Love your Show!!! You are an inspriation to all moms....just watching you do all you do and 9 months pregnant amazed me...it also has given me drive to accomplish more things in my life. Cortney you and your hubby are just a cool chic couple and are raising a beautiful family. I admire your taste and I love watching what is next. I absolutely love your show. It is apparent how much love you and your family have for each other. Can't wait to keep watching!
Bravo to 9 by Design for being the best show Bravo has ever aired! I am a huge fan of Kell on Earth, Top Chef, The Housewives and See What Happens but this new show is the best of the best!!! Cortney, you are incredible and the love for and by your children is the answer to anyone who wants to know how to raise a child. I personally wish you were on everyday!
