Hi everybody! Hope you enjoyed the latest episode of 9 by Design, an episode I like to call Punk'd, since I got fooled twice in this latest installment! In a search for a new nanny, George set us up. Somehow, he slipped in Rainbow Star, who was, shall we say, a little eccentric? We could not believe how wacky she was, and our surprise at some of the off-the-wall stuff she said was pretty funny. In the end, it was difficult to pick the right nanny, but Andrea was was fun and reliable, and seemed like she would fit in perfectly with our boisterous family. We have always relied on great people to help and support us in our quest to raise a large family. So one problem solved, then Breaker got me good with what we refer to as "the cake incident". Breaker is a hilarious kid with a great imagination, and you will get to see more of his antics in other episodes.
In our design business, the Hampton house we gutted and designed was a big job. We didn't have much time, much of a budget, and it was definitely stressful. But even though there were some problems (OK, I don't want to hear about ripping out that bathroom ever again), the finished project was beautiful, and something we could definitely be proud of. Again, it is always about the people you rely on to help you get things done the right way! And our contractors were up for the challenge as they always are. The Hamptons house is a good example of our design philosophy—take a cramped, dark, warren of rooms and open the walls, paint the walls white, get rid of clutter. You end up with a loft-like feel and lots of open space to really get the most use out of any environment.
Cortney, you look so much prettier in real life (on the show) than you do in these photos! I've only watched this one episode but I will definitely watch again! Keep up the great work, lady! You're very talented! I grew up in a family with 8 kids who are artistic and talented. It's a juggle but a blast! Enjoy!
Wow Cortney, you make it all look so easy!!!!! You just had your 7th and you're already tiny again, running around full throttle, you are so blessed. Your kids are so beautiful and amazing. Your attitude is fantastic, you never, ever freak out. With all the remodeling and moving you guys do,are there any air purifiers for the kids rooms? I have yet to here you guys mention any eco-friendly building materials. No VOC or low VOC paints?
Loved the Hamptons house and it reminded me of my daughter's house renovation there which took a year and was half the size. But would like to know the actual schedule, was it done in 7 weeks, really?
You have the most beautiful kids in every way but I was upset to see you gave in to the cell phones. Get the kids ear pieces WITH A WIRE, not a bluetooth, so they keep them away from their heads and insist they wear them.. please. Too much evidence pointing to the fact they can be dangerous to the brain.
I would love to know how you would re-imagine a dreadful little house like mine! I watch your show for ideas (and because I think your family life is so terrific) and I think I'm going to have to break down and buy your book, too.
Please share some ideas about how you would work with a small, challenging space and an even smaller budget.
Love the family, love the show. Tell us about the colored strings some of the family wear on their wrists.
I am in complete awe of your temperament with your family. So real, good humored and still disciplined. You must have the most organized mind alive! I am really liking this show far more than I thought I would! Great... hooked again.
Love, love, love your family and your show....such an inspiration. Wish you had 1 hr episodes instead (easy for me to say)
Is Robert a big flirt? Some of his comments surprise me. I wasn't sure about the show at first...but I am really loving it. But I cannot figure out how you do it all
Hi Courtney! First of all....i love your show! I like the colored stings and bracelets that you wear and i'd like to know if theres a special meaning behind them and how can i achieve this look.
Caught your show for the first time last night and the thing that struck me as amazing and has eluded me with my own three kids, is that your house looks absolutely amazing. Where's the clutter? Where's the clothes all over the floor? Do you have a toy fairy that magically puts them all away when the kids are done playing with them? I would love to know your secrets for living in a clutter free home!!
Love your family so real. I am from Israel so it reminds me of how I grew up we were only 4 but close in age.. Cortney you have amazing energy and your kids are great real kids. bob you too:) I love design colors and fashion so to watch what you do just leaves me amazed and can't wait every week to watch your talent shine. city of new york is lucky to have you since you are designing beautiful art all around that city. Shalom.
Courtney - love your homes and your style. Please tell me what kind of watch you are wearing! Thanks.
I continue to love the show and have a lot of girlfriends and my husband into it! I just purchased your book, "Downtown Chic" As a mothers day present for myself! I would have loved to have seen more of you picking items from the owners boxes in the Hampton s house and the process of picking and moving around decorative pieces & Art. Thank you for the continued design and family inspiration.
I love your show, your style and sense of adventure!!! I have looked at a bunch of your projects and your own homes and I love the white walls and floors but wonder when you are going to move into adding color to floors and walls. I think the all white style looks great BUT, only if you have beautiful expensive color furnishings and art. Do you think that painting in great colors gives personality without having to spend lots of money or scour flea markets on weekends? I would love to know how it is to keep clean with all those kids too! I have white cabinets in my kitchen and they're a mess from my kids!! AND my last comment would be; do you ever add sustainable design elements, or live more sustainably? Your carbon footprint esp with 7 kids must be HUGE!!!
I am loving your show. Your family is so adorable. I admire your energy. I am dying to know- where did you find your massive white vase that sits on your dining room table with the purple flowers? I am obsessed!
Just wanted to let you know how much I LOVE your show! You and Robert are such a great couple and your children are beautiful! Thanks for letting us have a peek into your everyday adventures! Oh, and I think your designs are AMAZING! Congrats on your new book, and I hope you guys will stay on for at least a few more seasons!
You and your family have such a positive energy about yourselves! this is one of the few shows I know of on t.v. where people cannot find one bad thing to say. I love that you're raising creative free thinking individuals! And you and your husband have it correct it is not the house that makes the family it is the family that makes the home. I wish nothing but love and positive energy for your family in any home you may live in!
p.s. loved the house with the glass balconies! I'd buy it if I were a rich bitch LOL!
courtney, you are a super women! i love your show and family. Your children are so darling, and i love the way you all pull together to help each other. You are a true role model for women of all ages.I wish you all ther best!
Hi Courtney! I just have to tell you i LOVE your show and your fun family! You guys are such a breath of fresh air and so insanely talented. 9 By Design is my new favorite show. I even know what night its on; having a dvr and never having to think about that I rarely know what night shows are on anymore, i just come home and see what's taped. But now I seriously look forward to tuesday nights.
Can't wait to see more episodes. :)
I love reality t.v. and when I saw previews for your show I thought "Oh no, not another one". After watching it for the first time I was hooked. Your kids are cute and super interesting, your staff are funny, (I just love the new nanny) and you & your husband are so sweet together. Even tho ya'll look super busy your both always nice to one another and never seem to lose your temper with the kids. The love just shines through and makes it a fun show to watch. I love your design ideas, very different and cool. Thank you for bringing such a cool show to Bravo and letting us share in your lives.
Cortney, my husband and I love your show! I have a really random question, the watch that you are always wearing what kind is it? I absolutely love it and I was wondering the brand? Thank you :)
Cortney: what is your design source for the silver nailhead chairs at your kitchen table in nyc house? love your aesthetics and the show!
I just want to tell you, how much I enjoy your family. I am one not crazy about kids, but your children are so cute. I can tell the type of parents you are, by the way your children act. Bravo to you. All the best, and I really like your show.
Cortney! Congrats on the beautiful baby! Your family is too cool! Love watching the show, hope it doesn't cause too much stress on you. lol You seem like you can handle anything, anytime, and you and Robert ae SO inspirational! I love the places you two have created. Was checking out your photos and noticed that your rooms are spaces I think anyone would be comfy in. Clean and spacious...very nice! I hope you get alot of business. I love the guys on construction too...very hot! Uh, did I say that? I meant very good at trheir jobs...(laughingly shrugs) Well can't wait to see more episodes! A big fan stuck in the Midwest...Nancy
I really enjoy your show. I have four beautiful children and I LOVE design. I try to find time to enhance our home. You inspire me to find the time! Way to go with all the kids in tow living in the city. I am so glad that there is finally a show that encourages being with your children and being creative. I like it a lot. :^)
Cortney,
Can you tell me the name of the horse art work use in the Hampton house, I would love to buy that piece.
Thank you
Love your family and your home! And your kids are so well-behaved. You should be proud of them and yourselves!
I LOVE the show. I feel so inspired to have my own family and continue working. Cortney your stylish, hard working, and a mother. I like the way you and your husband discuss decisions, and how you interact with your children. Your show is a much better example of real life families as opposed to what you see on Housewives. Congratulations on your family, company and show!
Courtney & Bob,
I just started watching your show but I am so impressed with you, your family and your work. I was excited to hear you are looking for a nanny and thought what a great way to fill a void in my life and be a part of such a large and wonderful experience. I have NO nanny experience but am a mother, would love to formally apply if you have not found a suitable applicant as yet 0r .... well we never know what the future holds do we?
I love you guys. It's so nice to see a show where people aren't ready to kill eachother and I'm not a nervous wreck at the end of each episode. You're such good parents and we love your show!
I love it that you show everyone brushing their teeth. Finally, something in "Reality" that we can all aspire too.
I don’t know what it is about the Novogratz family but I find them absolutely fascinating. Great design skills and so much energy and fun and interest in their children. I only hope at some point Cortney recognizes kids need better food than take out and hamburgers, and over time she learns to switch herself “off” before she burns herself out. I think she's great, but if anyone needs to learn yoga, it’s Courtney.
Love your show and your family! My daughter and I watch together. And we thought our family was wild! Wish u and Robert can do design for our new home.
Hi Cortney..love your show..just commented on your sweet daughter Tallulah's blog. Your children are precious. I have two grown now, and I'm on the waiting list to be a GRANDMA..I cannot wait..but, my children can..so wait I will..I love your work, a question..I live in a condo, my husband has m.s..so we have industrial carpet in our living room/dining room area..not a huge area, maybe 500 square ft..underneath is concrete. Do you have any suggestions for a "cheap" solution? It's a living room/dining room combo..with the kitchen at the end. The kitchen does not need the help..if you have the time I would love to pick your very talented brain..*yes that was a cheap try at flattery, I will admit!* Thanx, and enjoy your show...it will go very quickly
I love your show. You and Bob have the neatest design aesthetic and the cutest kids. You're so down to earth - it's refreshing. Could you share the stove manufacturer from the last episode with the fancy colors? I'm looking for a pink stove and so far have only found two and I'm not completely in love with the design. The 1950's Western-Holly restored version I like is way out of my budget so I'm still looking. Thanks! I can't wait to see next week's episode.
OK - I just love your family and your show. As a mom who also has 7 kids it's comforting to watch other big families. Your guys design sense is A-MA-ZING. SO, I had this idea for a show... how about you guys do a redesign for a family who also has 7 children and really need your help (paid for by Bravo of course)? I have no idea who that family might be (wink wink)but I'm sure I could help you figure that out. Wouldn't you just love to the challenge of making our 1800 sqft house more fun, functional and attractive (did I lose you at 1800?)? Anyways - so glad to see your amazing family having the chance to show the world we are not all weird. :)
You guys are awesome! I love New York City and am so glad Bravo is showing a quality show like yours as opposed to the Housewives of NYC. You and your husband are the epitome of "team". Keep up the good work. We love watching. PS: All your kids are beaufiful but I could just squeeze Major! What a doll!
Cortney, I love your show soooo much!!!!! I even have my 21 year old son watching it. He never watches reality shows but he really enjoys watching you and your wonderful family, especially now since we found out you are from Georgia and we are too. Your kids are great!! My son loves watching Hollie and Five- I guess it reminds of how I told him he was when he was young. Can't wait for tomorrow nights episode! Good Luck!!!
I would have 50 kids with your husband, Dont worry I have been married 27 years and he wouldnt want me :). You guys are adorable and your family is adorable, I love, love your show!!
I grew up in a family of 8 kids and I think white floors are just a bad idea--no matter how many pairs of dirty feet you have walking across them. Your design philosophy is to make everything look like a loft? Come on! But I do admire you juggling kids and work and your 8 year old husband with a smile.
You are both great, great parents and are an inspiration to working parents everywhere. I love how fun and playful you are with your kids...love watching you guys interact with each other, with all the stress, Cortney, I'm amazed that you're always smiling!
It was very touching wathcing what you did to help Jasminas family. I was terribly heart broken to learn she lost her battle to this hideous disease. My 7 yr old son also has Leukemia so thank you thank you for creating more awareness about this disease - it is terribly under-funded.

Cortney, you look so much prettier in real life (on the show) than you do in these photos! I've only watched this one episode but I will definitely watch again! Keep up the great work, lady! You're very talented! I grew up in a family with 8 kids who are artistic and talented. It's a juggle but a blast! Enjoy!
