Throughout high school, Sarah performed both on stage on television. In 1982, she was cast in the CBS sitcom Square Pegs as teen-trying-to-be-cool Patty Green. The series only lasted one year but Sarah received critical acclaim for her performance.
In 1984, Sarah moved to the big screen, receiving attention in both Footloose and First Born. Her first starring role was in the teenage comedy Girls Just Want to Have Fun (1985). Other roles in the 1980's included Year in the Life (1986), Flight of the Navigator (1986) and Twist of Fate (1989).
With her career gaining steam in the early 1990's, Sarah starred in L.A. Story (1991), Honeymoon in Vegas (1992), Hocus Pocus (1993) and Striking Distance (1993). In 1994, Sarah starred opposite Johnny Depp and Martin Landau in Tim Burton's classic Ed Wood. Other films include Mars Attacks! (1996), The First Wives Club (1996) and Dudley-Do-Right (1999).
In 1998, Sarah won the coveted role of Carrie Bradshaw in the HBO hit series Sex & the City. The series is based on the book of the same name by noted author Candace Bushnell and follows the sex lives of four single female friends living in New York City.
Sarah has been married to actor Matthew Broderick since 1997. She is a member of Hollywood's Women's Political Committee and is UNICEF's representative for the Performing Arts. Sarah is also a rabid NY Yankees baseball fan.
