As the first lesbian Queer Eye, Honey Labrador is
"The Lady" and the "glue" that holds the group
together. Her role touches on all three areas —
The Look, The Life, and The Locale — as they
relate to women. A working mother with an innate sense
of style, Honey is in the unique position to counsel
our straight girls in matters of career, family, sex
— and how to walk in heels.
"As the eldest daughter of a single working mother,
I was always inspired by my mother's strength,
determination and independence," said Labrador.
"She taught me that there was nothing I couldn't
do or be, and she believed in me through all of
the choices I made in my life. If I can pass that
same philosophy along to the straight girls, I've
done my job well."
"It's all about knowing what it means to be a
strong, independent woman," said Labrador, describing
her role on the series. "I share my experience,
strength, and hope with these women, as it's not
only my successes that have made me who I am today,
but also my failures."
Labrador stumbled into a modeling career at the age
of 17 after high school and covered New York, Paris,
Milan, and London. She has graced the pages of popular
magazines such as Elle, Mademoiselle, Marie Claire,
Harper's Bazaar, and both British and Italian Vogues.
Labrador eventually settled in Los Angeles to pursue an
acting career and provide a healthy environment to
raise her daughter.
Labrador soon took her talents behind the lens and
served as a fashion editor, producing photo shoots
for Country Magazine. There she realized her love for
production. In 1999, Labrador was appointed the head
of development at Passion Films, Inc, where she
produced the short films "Offside" and "The Bug in
My Ear." She also recently produced and starred in
the feature film "April's Shower" under her own
production banner, Silverleaf Productions. The film
won the special jury prize at the Monte Carlo Film
Festival, the Audience award at the Torino Film
Festival, and the Audience Award for Best Lesbian
Feature at the Philadelphia International Gay &
Lesbian Film Festival. The film will be released in
theaters in early Spring 2005.
