Episode 1

Debbie, when not busy selling time-shares, works with Shane on a song for an upcoming competition, "The Orlando Idol." His routine features several back-up dancers — one of whom, having met an early growth spurt, towers over him. Unfortunately, much of their hard work proves for naught when the contest calls to inform Debbie that back-up dancers will not be permitted.

The show must go on, so Shane hits the stage solo. Unfortunately, his thirteen year-old voice is undergoing a bit of a change, affecting his ability to stay on-key. Shane is surprised when he fails to make the cut, but remains as eager as ever to pursue is dream.

Episode 2

Debbie calls up Evelyn, Shane's former agent, to see if she'd be interested in representing him again. Evelyn seems enthusiastic about Shane's prospects, and advises the family to invest in updated headshots.

The Klingensmiths and a professional photographer head to Universal Studios to shoot Shane. There, Shane, looking every bit the young heartthrob, attracts attention from a number of teenage girls. Graciously, he signs autographs and poses for pictures.

Episode 3

With the help of a casting director, Shane shoots an audition video that will showcase his talents online. Standing before a blue wall, he reads through a number of sample commercial spots. Nearby, mom offers direction.

Working without a script, Shane has trouble getting through an ad for a sports drink. After several takes, he delivers a performance that satisfies his casting director. With his videos complete, all that is left is to post them online and see if they attract any interest.

Episode 4

Shane is scheduled to perform at Raymond James Stadium. Mom Debbie has decided that such a large venue requires a big production, and recruits back-up dancers from among Shane's classmates. After extensive rehearsals and auditions, everyone who tried out makes the cut.

Later, Shane's agent calls with bad news. Although Debbie had been told that the stadium show is on Wednesday, it turns out it is actually on Friday, the same day Shane is already booked to appear in the chorus of a production of Annie. Forced to choose, they decide that the stadium show is too important to pass up

Episode 5

Brimming with enthusiasm, Shane and Debbie head to Raymond James Stadium for his big performance. Upon arrival, they discover that the gig is not actually in the stadium but rather is in a white tent at a county fair located nearby. Shane and his dancers perform anyway before a modest but appreciative audience.

Shane auditions for a role in an Ernest Borgnine movie. The head producer offers some advice on how mom can better package Shane's talent. Debbie explains that she and her husband plan to home-school Shane to give him more time to focus on his career. After a bit of improv, the producer concludes that Shane is "not ready yet."

Episode 6

Through a family connection, Debbie has arranged to have Shane perform at a Vegas casino. In preparation, she rehearses his backup dancers at the local YMCA — until they're asked to leave by the management.

Out west, the family's first appearance is at a car dealership, with Shane's grandfather in attendance. Later, the family stops to take photos of the sign at Gilley's, where Shane's name appears in lights. The performance there goes well, and afterwards Shane calls his mother on stage to wish her a happy birthday

Episode 7: Follow-Up

Since the show aired, Shane and Debbie have been flooded with emails. The family takes their newfound fame with a grain of salt and a gallon of good humor; Tuesday nights at 9pm have become "laugh time at the Klingensmith house," according to dad Jim. Seventeen year-old brother Greg describes the show as "Shane's squeaking and mom's pushing."

Shane acknowledges that his older sister — who was lost to cancer when he was very young — has been an inspiration to him. She had a beautiful singing voice, as captured in old family videos.

Since the premiere, the family has been meeting with Wright Entertainment to discuss signing Shane to a development deal. His budding career will have to go on hold for a while, though, as the Klingensmith parents prepare for an anniversary cruise, which Jim hopes will cure Debbie of her now-famous pushiness.
