18th AND POTOMAC

Background
Personal
Senior White House Counsel Oliver Babish has begun to drill the White House staff for the hearings that are inevitable as soon as they go live with news that the President concealed his MS during his campaign and years in office. Babish is particularly concerned for the First Lady, who is a licensed physician but has been breaking AMA rules by treating her husband's disease herself and prescribing his medication secretly.
Political
After the staff was informed of Bartlet's MS, they realized they'd need to gauge public response before going to the press with the story. Josh told Leo to hire the only pollster he trusted, Joey Lucas from California. Joey ran a test poll about a hypothetical governor of an industrial state with a degenerative illness to see how the people might respond.

The US Government installed Dessaline as President of Haiti, but recently there was a coup in the country and Dessaline has gone missing, causing national security threats in both Haiti and the United States.

Josh and the White House have been funding the Justice Department's lawsuit against Big Tobacco, but the tobacco conglomerates have funding and a legal team the government can't hope to match.

Synposis
The newly elected president of Haiti flees for his life and asks for sanctuary in the U.S. embassy -- which would place the compound under army attack. Elsewhere, a frustrated Josh (Bradley Whitford) needs more money from a Senate committee to continue the Justice Department's case against Big Tobacco companies but hits a roadblock when he solicits the crucial votes of two Democratic Senators. Oliver Platt guest-stars as White House counsel Babish. Martin Sheen, John Spencer, Rob Lowe, Allison Janney, Richard Schiff, Dule Hill and Janel Moloney also star.
