The President engages in a game of brinkmanship with the Chinese, who threaten to turn their war games in the Taiwan Strait into the real thing; Josh is edgy about all 42 votes cast in a tiny, remote New Hampshire burg that historically predict the winner of the day's crucial state primary.

At a White House party celebrating the First Lady's birthday, the President is visited by Ambassador Marbury who argues against Bartlet's meeting with a murderous Irish terrorist; Sam meets with a Senator who is blocking funding for a controversial superconductor project. Donna discovers that she's actually Canadian.
Episode 316: THE U.S. POET LAUREATE
The President is overheard making a disparaging comment to an open-mike about a potential Republican nominee; Toby tries to finesse the newly named Poet Laureate from speaking out against the United States' lack of support for a land-mines treaty. Josh is both repulsed and intrigued by the fact that he has his own fan-created Web site.

The crash of a truck bearing uranium fuel rods could pose an environmental — or terrorist — crisis; electoral strategy is stealthily mapped out that could include jettisoning Vice President Hoynes.

The producers of The West Wing present a documentary special celebrating the real players inside the White House — featuring interviews with former White House staffers David Gergen, Dee Dee Myers, Henry Kissinger, Leon Panetta and former Presidents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, among others.
Episode 319: ENEMIES FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC
Satellite photos reveal an Iranian nuclear bomb facility built with Russian technology; CJ makes a harsh public statement about the deaths of Saudi young girls, prompting Bartlet to assign her Secret Service protection.
Episode 320: THE BLACK VERA WANG
CJ chafes under the protective collar provided by a handsome but capable Secret Service agent; Toby plays hardball with network executives over future political convention TV coverage, and the President and his National Security staff scramble to head off a predicted terrorist attack.

The President is torn over forfeiting the principle of diplomatic immunity for an important Middle Eastern official known to be plotting terrorism; Josh duels with his activist girlfriend over a key welfare reform bill.

Bartlet encounters his Republican rival, Governor Ritchie, while both attend a Broadway play. Meanwhile, the President is forced to make a difficult decision after he discovers that a high-ranking Middle Eastern official has been supporting terrorism.
