Some have called Around the World in 80 Plates a mix of Survivor and Top Chef. This week the intensity of both elements went into high gear. So far, the contestants had at least some familiarity with the cuisines of the countries we’ve visited. But cooking a Moroccan tagine is another story!
First, the contestants had to find the nine spices in a Ras el Hanout by using only their sense of smell. Ras el Hanout is an Arabic term for the best spices in the shop. Many of those spices are used in a tagine. But, as Chef Moha says, it takes a lot of practice to know how to use spices in Moroccan cuisine. The key is in how they’re blended together. It’s easy to get the proportions wrong so that one spice becomes too dominant.
That’s what happened to the Black Team whose tagine was too spicy for the locals. The White Team’s tagine wasn’t much more popular. The Red Team won through hard work and teamwork. This time, they put their differences aside and really pulled together.
As for the game side of the show, Avery seemed to get it right when she said that Nookie is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers. Good chess players see two or three moves ahead and, despite a tendency to toot his own horn, Nookie has shown he has a talent for strategy. In the end, he wasn’t in much danger this week since Avery and Chaz attracted the most votes. You could say that that was because of their confrontation in the kitchen, but Avery’s main fault seems to be that she’s a good chef and thus is seen as a threat. Glad you made it, girl. Keep up the good work!
I totally agree! I have never been more happier to see someone get voted off a television show until tonight. Not only was Chaz lacking most basic cooking skills, but his attitude was lacking as well! There was multiple times where he contradicted someone for something that he did, not them. I was flabbergasted when he said that Avery was trying to take credit for things she didn't do. I mean HELLO did you not try and serve whole chickens in France until AVERY helped you out. Not to mention when Chaz was asked about it, he tried to take the credit! What a loser, so glad he's gone! Congrats Avery, you are a kickass chef - by far my favorite contestant along with Nookie.
Hope you both make it to the end!
Never been happier to see a TV Show contestant voted off! Good-bye Chaz! Talk about a hypocrite. Not to mention his cooking skills are sub-par. So hilarious how he thinks he's going to freak people out with his cooking after leaving the show. To be perfectly honest - I think you just made yourself look like a ignorant a-hole instead.
Good luck with your future in cooking, maybe McDonalds will offer you a job. They might be able to teach you a thing or two...
Goodluck AVERY & NOOKIE!
Enough with all the fighting, can we please get back to cooking and visiting beautiful places. You're all making Chef's look bad, not all of us enjoy the drama.
I'm done watching this show. I hate the "Amazing Race" part of it, there is not nearly enough about food, and the contestants do not seem very talented. The idea that Avery could have gotten voted off because everyone is threatened by her talent epitomizes everything that is wrong with this show. I had high hopes for this show because I love Cat Cora and liked the idea of exploring different cultures and kinds of food, but it has been a huge disappointment.
I hope someone is apologizing for the potty mouths and lack of manners for these chefs that are going into cultures and countries that they no nothing of. They are an embarrassment to all of the USA.
How dumb are these chefs. The plotter the big guy on the black team is conning all of the other chefs. Quit the drama and get to cooking. These guys are an embarrassment to the USA with their bad manners and potty mouths.
Thank God Chaz is gone. Everything he accused other people of ie. trying to take credit for other people's work was actually what he was doing. What an ego! I can't remember anything he cooked that was liked. Bad couscous really? And he was the one who stretched out the issue once the beats were found and then tried to blame Avery. Puhlease!!! Really glad to see this overblown braggart gone.
Well someone told the servers to take that pan of beets away and didn't own up to it. Either they thought it was nothing good worth fixing or they did it on purpose and I am glad Avery called it out. That behavior is not good in the kitchen. Sort of like the pea puree in a previous chef show, and it won the dish for the wrong chef. Avery is good alone or on a team and these guys know it. They better decide if they want the help or not or they may suck and leave alone.
I agree with LindseyMichele fully about Chez. I really love Nookie and Avery and I hope they go all the way. I like the show but I don't like how the chefs vote each other out I wish it was left to the Judges.
My wife and I both had higher hopes for this show. We like that they are traveling and cooking, but absolutely hate the fact that the best chefs may be voted out at any time. If this show wants to stay alive, they will have to change the format for how contestants are voted off. We do not want to watch a BS reality show where contestants survival is not based on their skills of cooking, but rather their popularity.
