How to Stay on Necker Island Like the Obamas — Without a $78,000 Price Tag

It's not out of reach for mere mortals (for a very special occasion).

After their post-White House trip to Palm Springs area, Barack and Michelle Obama headed for sunnier climes: Richard Branson's private island in the Caribbean, the famously exclusive and posh Necker Island.

Located in the British Virgin Islands, the island comprises 74 acres, surrounded by coral reefs and white sand beaches. Typically, you — or, perhaps, someone much wealthier than you — could book out the entire island for 34 guests sharing 17 bedrooms. And the price tag for doing that would range about $78,000 nightly

But, regular people with private-island dreams rejoice! There's actually a way to get your piece of that billionaire- and presidential-level vacation experience for a mere-mortal-level price. OK, let's say a price for mere mortals who have been saving up for a long time to celebrate a very special occasion.

The Obamas' are rumored to have stayed at the Great House on Necker Island, a large Balinese villa with amazing panoramic views of the Caribbean, the Atlantic, and neighboring islands. And it's available for booking on TripAdvisorRentals beginning at $4,390 nightly.

The villa has an expansive outdoor terrace with hammocks and sofas. Foodies will find bliss in a top-end kitchen... or just kick back while the resident chefs prepare everything for you and your crew to eat in multiple dining areas.

Rental rates are fully inclusive of all food and beverages, including quality champagne. Set your own menu and mealtimes, or leave it up to the staff to whip up something beachside, poolside, or under the stars.

There is also a fully-stocked bar, a piano, an entertainment system, and a Jacuzzi.
"Guests are encouraged to treat Necker Island like their own home and to help themselves to anything they want, at any time," according to the booking site.

While $4,390 is hardly pocket change, consider that price for the villaincludes just about everything: accommodation, all meals and drinks including all alcoholic beverages, return transfers from Virgin Gorda or Tortola airports, and a dedicated team of more than 90 staff people to cater to your every whim.

Plus, you'll get access to two floodlit tennis courts, water sports equipment, and all kinds of other baller-level goodies.
