Max talks about his botched attempt to pick up Kristen, and his near fist fight with Robert Verdi.

on Jul 29, 20100

If no girl ever wants to speak to me again after that embarrassing scene with Kristen I completely understand. I was about as sharp as a marble and as smooth as the Rocky Mountains. For a kid who doesn't know how to shut up I was clearly at a loss for words when it came to pulling the trigger. You'd think I'm a virgin based on that performance! Jason did a great job as wingman, he really did. He gave Kristen and me some alone time, he talked me up, and he even asked her out for me! He knew exactly what to do. I love the guy, and I look at him like an older brother.

It wasn’t that I was so nervous… what am I saying, of course I was! I was nervous because the situation seemed very forced. I talk to Kristen all the time when I'm there and if I had just conversed the way we always do instead of looking for an opening it would have been a breeze. She gave me her number and agreed to go out with me, but I didn’t feel like I achieved anything because I felt so foolish. But hey, I'll have plenty of time to make up for it when we go on a date!

I don't know what was up Robert Verdi's ass that day. I don't know what motivated him to jump on me the way he did. What was seen in the episode was nothing compared to what actually occurred. In a completely condescending way he asked if my parents were proud of me. He told me how sheltered and uncultured he thought I was. He didn't know a thing about me to make that kind of judgment. I have a family who has supported every piss I've taken. I've traveled through 23 countries and have been on five continents. I've trekked mountains, dived underwater caves, and explored volcanoes. I can deal with Bethenny goofing on my hair and things like that because she isn't malicious, and I know she's messing around. But Robert was coming at my head, almost like he was challenging me.

I didn't know how to react. I wanted to defend myself but what was I going to do, bicker back and forth like a 14-year-old girl for a half an hour? What is this, The Real Housewives of NYC? What I wanted to do was take my sheltered fist and knock his arrogant Mr. Clean head down 8th Avenue. Although I was smart in my overall reaction, deep down I was fired up. Obviously I wasn’t going to clock him right there in front of Bethenny, I would have lost my job. But has she not been there, I would have said, "Listen Robert, either start talking to me with the same respect you show Bethenny or we are going to have an issue you can't handle by yourself." I was raised not to talk and bicker like a high school girl, which is what Robert was doing. If you have an issue with someone, put your dukes up and then you see who really has something to say. If not, shut your mouth. I know many will disagree and that is OK, but had you been in my shoes with Robert Verdi that afternoon you would understand.

Dear darling Bethenny, I seem to remember something about Bethenny and I think Sonja brought a soothsayer (I love that title) to see Bethenny and she predicted that Bethenny was going to have a new love named Jason and everyone thought it was the ex jason but she insisted that no a new man. Do I remember this correctly? Has anyone else mention this esp episode or am I just dreaming. I would love to know!

Dear noglec: it's a blog. I am pretty sure Max can talk and write about whatever he wants. Enough said.

I was amazed at how ridiculous Verdi acted. The "Fraggle Rock" comments were unnecessary, and he was too rude to you. You handled yourself well and I think you are justified in venting on here. This is your forum to speak and we only see a portion of what is portrayed on television, so it's great that you are able to let viewers know exactly how bad it really was. What a creep! I have lost respect for Verdi... it's a shame he has to belittle people to feel good about himself.

Keep your chin up Max.

Max, I was appalled at how Robert treated you, I know he can be sarcastic/funny but he was in attack mode! You showed great restraint. I heard Bethenney on radio this morning say Max has 'done his internship' and not with her, true or not? If so, sorry to see you go, you should do great in anything you chose in life

Max,

He's just jealous he's no where near as hot as you. You make the show even more fun to watch.

Good luck on ur date!

Max- When someone behaves inappropriately such as a certain person in this last episode-- pause, take a breath and smile. It means they are insecure, jealous and/or threatened by you. This is a very small community and his behavior was a poor reflection on him. Don't waste your energy on a remark, punch, push, etc- people like that are not worth it. Save your energy for all the dates you'll be going on!

Max! I think you handled it well. You are the cutest thing since sliced bread. Who cares about Robert? He is gross!

:-) Keep up the entertaining, you have many fans........ And we love you!

Max,

You were great. I don't know what was up with that pompous jerk, Robert whatever, but he was so rude I couldn't figure out what was up with him. You handled yourself extremely well. I hope Bethanny doesn't buy anything from him & his other clients see what a jerk he was.

Maybe he was threatened by you. Boycott him

Max, You did not handle the situation with Robert well at all. Not that day and not in your blog. So you didn't punch him right then and there, but you're blog? Really? You have to remember you work for Bethenny, this show isn't about you, you are an employee for Bethenny, part of your job is to do this blog, you still act professional. Vent about this guy to your friends. You venting and writing your blog the way you did is completely unprofessional. I would hope that Bethenny is disappointed in your blog, you represent her company, so you have to act professional no matter how man someone makes you. Vent to your friends, but NOT like this. You need to grow up. Your blog was childish. All you have to say is, I'm not sure his problem was and be done with it. No extra comments nothing.

Wow! For a cute guy, he didn't act very attractive. As a Mom, I'm proud of how you handled yourself. I fully understand the difference between guys fighting and girls. You guys duke it out and it ends there. Girls, if they duke it out, carry that hate forever. It may have been cathartic to punch him but you knew your priorities. Good for you! :)

I'm sorry that Robert verdi acted like such a moron to you. He must be insecure with himself to come off like that. He was demeaning and very disrespectful. If I was Bethenny, I would have told him to his face to knock it off. I used to like him but not anymore. Don't worry Max, he's just jealous of your sexy hair!

Max, your parents done right by you, cause you kept your cool and kept your mouth and thoughts closed though I know it was hard. I kind of think Mr. Verdi might have had the hots for you and didn't know what to do or, there was more to the story and Bravo edited it out for us. No matter, you came out the "bigger man" and that is what counts in the end. I am disappointed Bethenny didn't do a little more than she did but women and their clothes I guess. As for me, we would have stepped out of there. End of story. Take care!

Hey Max, quit hating on the gays. I would love to have met Robert Verdi and I bet he would not have treated me the way you claim he treated you.It is all about respect Max. You are way too cocky for your age. He who has the gold rules Max and Robert Verdi has a lot of gold. He also is a great stylist. Perhaps you, your clothing, your attiude offended him. Maybe he does not like your caveman ways.

You are a doll. Don't worry about Robert Verdi. He was obviously jealous and threatened by you. Keep your chin up! You rock and he's just a has been stylist. If you had been with me, I would have left his store without buying a thing for the way he treated you.

i'm really glad you didn't have a physical altercation with RV, and i'm really glad you work with bethenny. we all know how professional you are; that's all that matters in the big pic. i judge someone by how a dog responds to him/her. cookie likes you, so you must be ok in the world. :-) hugz. dee

Max,

You are adorable and I am going to say the same as all the others who commented on this Blog. RV is jealous of your good looks and Charm and mad he can not date you.

His insults seem to have come out of the blue. I like that Bethany tried to put him in his place and I loved that you acted with total class and dignity.

You and Jason in the jewelry shop were so cute. I can see totally that you kind of view him as a big bro. I loved that he stepped in even though I was saying in my head "oh no", I LOVE THIS SHOW AND LOVE HAVING YOU IN IT

Hey Max, I wouldn't listen to all those comments saying Bethanny should've stuck up for you. Personally I would find it degrading for someone to have to stick up for me especially a woman (sorry, ladies), boss or not, especially in a situation that was passive aggressive teasing at best. We all not only have to fight our own battles, but also pick and chose the right ones to fight. Except for your last comment on your way out the door about the b---head's pants, you did fine IMO. As long as you don't have to work with him, I'd erase him from memory. That being said, as a boss I have declined a new client who was condescending and rude to an employee. However, if it had been a long-standing client, I probably would have told the person to grin and bear it, if it was an isolated incident. Anyway, everyone in earshot will know who between the two of you is the a--, so be secure in that.

Max you rock!

What caught my attention from this episode was that Kristen seemed more interested in Jason than in you... every time she looked at him her eyes were glowing.

Regarding Verdi I would say that some people don’t know how to handle their own insecurities and they have to put other people down to feel they’re worth something. You are a decent person; at that moment you did what you were supposed to do, due to the circumstances you were in.

***Hey Max.. don't give that Robert Verdi power in your life to upset you. Don't give him your time, your thoughts or your emotions. It's not worth it. I was shocked to see how he spoke to you/about you in the portion of the show that was aired. Don't take his bait and certainly don't react or you will bring yourself down to his level. You are young Max, and unfortunately, there are alot of Roberts in this world. You'll see. Just don't give people like that any energy. You seem like a nice guy on Bethenny's show; don't let Robert Verdi bring you down or make you look as bad as he looked with his comments. Do not react with physical violence or with verbal vulgarity. Not in person or in your blog. I know you must be way above that. Usually, people that speak badly of others, especially when it is not warranted, have issues with themselves. My opinion, is that Bethenny should not put up with how you were treated. She should put Robert in check or back away from him as a stylist. But, it's just my opinion. Hope to see more of you Max, in the show. TAKE CARE***

Morgaine

I think Robert thought you were cute and didn't know how to handle it because you're obviously straight. Maybe something happened we didn't see, but most of what we did see seemed like someone who couldn't handle their attraction to someone else and reacting badly.

Either way, I'm glad you didn't start a fight.

You sound accomplished and well-traveled, but you need to man up a little when you're faced with something like putting a Bassinet together. It's not rocket science.

Max,

My last comment wasnt posted but I agree with one of the viewers in that Bethenny was disappointing in that she did not draw the line in her employee being mistreated. I hated watching that piece.

You are a million times more of a man than that pathetic baldy! You are a nice guy and would never treat someone the way that piece of crap treated you. Stay true to yourself you are awesome!

Had to laugh at the "fowl mouth" comment above. I suppose the writer meant "foul" but cannot spell, maybe has no brain at all- don't listen to the dummies out there. You came off as a level-headed person. Don't ever let tiny minds steer you into a fight!

Robert Verdi was so rude - it was uncomfortable to watch. I'm not sure why he would spend precious time on a top-rated show looking rude and unprofessional. And he has been wearing sunglasses perched on his wrinkly, bald head for 10 years now. I wonder if he uses double-sided boob tape to keep them on. It looks ridiculous. He really needs to freshen his look. But, Max, you are adorable and a great guy!

Max, you are so adorable! If I met you, I would totally ask you out & there'd be no "move making" to worry about! ;) [I'm not a jewelry designer or an NYC girl, though...just a real estate broker in Charlotte] The ordeal with RV was very strange indeed...man, it was a rough episode for you! It seemed like a jealous thing almost. Like he didn't like seeing Bethenny with another guy friend. Yes, you are her employee, but I'm sure your job description doesn't include anything about quietly tolerating being verbally attacked & insulted by Bethenny's acquaintances. You handled it as best as you could considering it was completely out of left field & taking place in front of your employer. Well played, my dear, well played.

Max, you are completely charming. I loved your nervousness of asking her out, your comments were whitty and your nerves made you even cuter. You are quite a catch with the way you handled that situation with Robert and if all the guys in New York are like you I need to make a location change.

And trust me, any girl that you ask out should be completely honored. I would say yes!

My opinion of Robert is that he was attraced to you! It was obvious to me. I am sure he realized that you are not in to men so it would never go anywhere... it can't go anywhere so he picks on you! Men do it to women all the time when they are attracted and intimidated. I have had men treat me the exact same way, thinking they were jerks and didnt like me.. only to find out later that they were very attracted! LOL I may be wrong, but that is how I see it! He's an overgrown baby and very rude..

Hey max! I think that because you are a "regular" guy , who isn't in to fashion and did'nt get all flustered because you were meeting the "Great Robert Verdi", you were fair game! Just brush it off! Like Bethenny he has a unique sense of humor, like Shawn would say "wear your big boy pants"! Fans of the show know that Bethenny hired you because she thinks you are a good fit for her company, so just give attention to what she thinks of you.The fact that you did'nt go off on him shows her that you can handle yourself. You will have to interact with many people in your life like him, so let them have their moment and rise above, it's hard but Bethenny's fans know a "Jill" when we see one!

Robert Verdi had a bee in his bonnet. He totally ruined the "chilllax'd" vibe the show has to date. RV was unprofessional and the "drama" was unbecoming! I vote RV JACKHOLE OF THE SHOW! Who doesn't agree?

I agree with you. He was trying to be funny ... I am sure he would have laughed and backed off if you were half as witty or clever with your jokes or went to joking about yourself. You didn't handle that well.

You handled yourself well w/ the stylist and I glad you handed it back to him. You were cool as a cucumber.

However, I would say the stylist was probably man-crushing on you. It's like what happens on the play ground in grade school: the boy hits the girl b/c he likes her.

I think Robert Verdi has the hots for you and got all superior to cover it up. "Fraggle Rock" was this weird show from the 80s that lasted maybe one season and was basically muppets on crystal meth (another 80s thing - I miss the 80s!). Verdi is a brilliant stylist but probably missing his youth and waiting a piece of yours!

Asking someone out with cameras surrounding you would be IMPOSSIBLE for just about anyone. At least you accomplished what you set out to do, with a little help from that endearing Jason! I hope you have a wonderful time and maybe we'll see a spin off like "Maxing Out with the Jeweler" next season?

The best part of that exchange was when you kept asking what Fraggle Rock was??? It was actually a pretty good show, even though it was like the Muppets... Don't take that crap from anyone, just stay classy!! Ask Bethenny for some advice in dealing with crazy people as she has a Masters degree in that!! Cheers!

The key is to get yourself to a place where you are so detached from the comments of someone like Verdi that you almost feel sorry for him for being like that. In other words, even though his comments were directed at you, they were not ABOUT you - they reflected directly back to his character; not yours. But for now, good job on restraining yourself!

Max, You are adorable. My heart went out to you when Robert Verdi abused you over your stature, however you handled it like a gentleman. How would he like someone to make negative comments about his bald head, etc., etc.? Too bad for him, he probably was secretly wishing that stature could be his only issue, perhaps he wanted you to notice him because he might be attracted to you. Maybe he was jealous of how damn cute you are. Whatever, Mr. Verdi behaved terribly, and he is certainly not Mr. Perfect, therefore don't rag on others. Many girls would love to date you, so don't let that person's shallow opinion get in your way. By the way, you are extremely handsome with a great head of hair. I thought Bethenny could have come to your defense.

Max, You are adorable! You fit perfectly on this show! You are one of my favorites!! You could be Bethenny's brother!! I think Robert Verdi was rude and he should be very uncomfortable when he watches this show! Very immature on his part! What was his problem! You handled yourself perfectly! Quite a gentleman ( your mother and Bethenny should be proud)!!! I wish there were many more episodes to go ! Good luck with Kristen!

I just saw the footage of Bethenny and Max going to Robert Verdi store for clothing etc. Well Mr I think I'm hot and your not attitude with Max.was one of rudest things I've seen on tv. I love Bethenny but what I saw was the most crude and condescending attitude from Verdi. He owes Max an appology and She should have called him Verdi to stop right then and there. Your money is good anywhere else. Now I am disallusioned with bethenny. since homosexuality has become the nations news toy and everyone is accused of it and as if there is nothiing else to talk about???? All people deserve respect especially in the retail world. I can't even understand why this is making me so angry and that is not why I watch Bethennys show. I hope she is learning things about people on her ride down the path of being a good human being.

Max- ignore comments about "KNOWING YOUR PLACE". You are on a reality TV show for f*!*!# sake! Picking out granny panties on National TV for your boss one day, bosses hubby taking time out to play Goose to your Maverick the next. Sounds like knowing your place is a bit of a daily crap shoot and I would imagine that Bethany wouldn't have it any other way.
