- Bethenny Ever After: Season 2
When Bethenny’s assistant Julie called me, iit was about four weeks until the wedding day. I believe Julie found me on the Knot.com; she looked at my website, interviewed me over the phone and said she would set up a meeting for Bethenny to come to my office. Before we hung up she said, "Oh there’s one more thing, this will all be filmed for Bethenny’s new reality show."
When she called I was shocked that I was even in the running to be Bethenny’s planner. In the back of my mind I was doing cartwheels. I knew who Bethenny was from watching Martha Stewart’s Apprentice and The Real Housewives of New York City. I knew it was a great opportunity and I knew I would have my hands full. However, when I found out it would all be filmed for her reality show, I did a double take. After hanging up the phone and talking with my partner Michael, I told him I didn’t think I would do it. It was enough to plan a wedding in four short weeks, but to be put under the reality TV microscope was pushing my comfort limits. I wasn’t sure if I was ready for something like this.
Michael and I chatted for what seemed like hours, I "slept on it," and next thing I knew Bethenny was in my office for our first meeting. It was too good of an opportunity to pass up, it was a challenge and I knew if I could plan her wedding successfully in four weeks I could do anything.
When Bethenny walked through my front door, the magnitude of what was happening hit me and nerves took over. Normally I don’t get nervous when I meet celebrities; I have always told myself that they are people who just happen to be in the spotlight. They put their pants on one leg at time, just like me. As my father says, "Their poo stinks too." This was different, it was Bethenny Frankel, one of the most loved Housewives in franchise history! I knew she would say what was on her mind and not hold back; after all, that's who Bethenny is. She tells it like it is, thus my nervousness. I don’t always say the right things when I get nervous. I become an idiot, which is not the most professional quality when planning a celeb wedding.
Shawn, I think you are great, I LMAO when you called Cookie Kujo! You have the patience of a saint, Betheny is a hard task master but you have been more than up for the challenge and have handled yourself really well, most people would have had a serious melt down with all that you have in front of you. Some of your facial expressions are hysterical, I think you and Betheny compliment each other perfectly you both have a similiar sense of humor and I sure when all the madness is over you will be great friends.
Shawn you are funny, gracious, and a class act! I would definitely watch a wedding planner show with you at the center!
I agree with lilee and Britishladyj. You handle yourself well under some really difficult circumstances, and you pull it off. I cracked up when you said Cookie, I hate that bi--. I love animals, and I don't think you hate cookie, but she is testing you on screen in front of millions. She'll get use to you. Next time bring Cookie a surprise.
Shawn you are a soldier and i bet Bethenny would agree you already had and idea of who she is very raw and straight to the point and theirs no way you could BS her if you watch the housewifes you knew that going in i think when you tried to agree that you knew about the cotton candy all hell broke loose you lost her trust and it went down hill from there however all is fair and love in war i think thats how they say that however you pulled it off you remained so professional u remained sane and you did all you could to make your client happy the world saw that and i think you may have to start hiring some help because everyone will be calling you now i love you on the show and i can see you having your on wedding spin off kinda like Martha Stewart good luck with all your endeavors im sure this isnt the last we will here of Mr Shawn Rabideau HAVE A FAB~YOU~LOUS REST OF THE DAY
I recently left medical school to follow my passion for planning, coordinating, and producing events. What advice do you have for someone trying to break into the industry?
