There's a Good News/Bad News thing going on with tonight's live "Top Design" aftershow, "Watch What Happens." The bad news is that we were supposed to have two divas who rule the taste machine of the Elle magazine Enterprise, "Runway" judge Nina Garcia and "Design" judge Margaret Russell -- and that ain't totally happening tonight.
As you know, Garcia is about eight months preggers, so when we heard late yesterday that she is feeling under the weather, we said that maybe the idea of being on a live webshow at 11pm on a Wednesday night didn't have to be at the very top of her to-do list. (We are fairly considerate people, you see!)
SO, Nina's out for tonight, but it is no small potatoes to have the superchic editor of Elle Decor in the house, and Margaret will be joined by a surprise guest that you are gonna be excited about!

No offense to Bravo/NBC, but you're not missing much by not watching Grease: YTOTIW. All of the Sandys have been "typed" to the point where it's pretty hard to distinguish one from the others. I remember Austin from the Hairspray Tour, but he definitely wasn't one of my favorite Links (the original Bway one and his understudy were both better, in my opinion). It was kind of fun last week to see some of the Dannys singing and dancing with backup dancers.
I seem to remember The Amazing Race starting off with double-length episodes. I, too, am sick of seeing the reality TV whores Rob and Amber. They did really well last time on the Race, but if I were one of the other teams I wouldn't think of them as a bigger threat than anyone else...other than to watch my back when they are around!

Wow. As a graphic designer, I tried to give this show a chance, but I think tonight was the last straw. No matter what big names these judges carry with them, their skills in rating the rooms thus far have been sub-par. Everything seems to be personal and with regard to one aspect from a social status that is out of reach for many. Above all though, it seems the poorer designs keep winning praise (room without a roof, jungle with horribly splintered plywood surfaces, and an awful post collegiate designer's room with blank walls, horrid colors, and no space - even Carrissa thought she failed), and the better designer is going home; for lame reasons - color, an afghan, because it is a theme room. I guess it just goes to show that design is art, and art is in the eye of the beholder. No matter the name weight, I have lost total respect for the show and the judges. Bravo - best find a better group if this comes back next season.

oh andy.
i just wanted to take a minute and tell you how much i enjoy what you and bravo do. all the programming is very cutting edge and uber chic. you guys are amazing.
i, for one, am not one that enjoys watching prime time television (typically channels 4-12). there are several reasons for this:
*i don't want to be associated with the typical "american" (aka bible-thumping politically-blinded hicks)... because we all know that after a hard day at the ford factory, the jones's all plop down in front of the tv to watch idol.
*there is nothing interesting about the same show... over and over and over again.
*they don't spice things up, try new things, gear up to get the attention of new audiences.
so i salute you mr. cohen. thank you for being so amazing!
oh, and tell everyone else they're great too :)
