Last night's Top Chef was a doozy. I am expecting pickets at 30 Rock and we have hired bodyguards for Chef Colicchio and the panel of judges. It was actually a unanimous decision by the judges and a decision that rattled both them, the producers, and the other chefs.
Watch last night's "Watch What Happens" HERE to see Tom further explain the decision... He and Rocco DiSpirito were the guests and it was an interesting show.
Rocco and I were hanging out before the show chatting and waiting for Tom to arrive. Rocco was obsessed with Casey's inability to chop the onions in the Quickfire relay. I'd done a Q & A with Tom earlier in the day (read it HERE) in which he said Casey's problems stemmed from her dull knives. Rocco was emphatic that, dull or not, Casey was using the wrong knife altogether.

You voted Tre off the show? Having watching Top Chef for 3 seasons and following closely the competitions this season, you have made a HUGE mistake!! Tre was one of the most talented chefs and proved that week after week. Clearly, the judges have their own agenda and it was most evident last evening. Top Chef just lost one viewer!

Top Chef has been one of my favorite realty shows. Two seasons in a row the judges have voted the best off. Last season Sam and this season, Tre. I think you need to change the judges. Everyone know that Brian or CJ should have been voted off. Brian didn't cook anything and CJ passed the buck. No more Top Chef on my tube.

It is obvious that Tre was the best Chef on the show, he was a good buy and therefore did not make for TV drama. That is the main thing that matters on these reality shows. I really enjoyed watching , but seeing some of the people left on the show, one of which I would not want to even try his food, due to the fact that he sweats in everything he cooks. You will be missed Tre.

Hi Folks,
Love the show...but wonder why Tre was sent off last night? When Casey's contribution was so terrible for the 3rd time, and Tre's biggest mistake was a management problem.
Oh, I know that Tre's food wasn't up to parr this time...but you let Lia go over Casey too. Lia made a much better presentation than Casey did, and just because Casey had "imunity"one time, didn't deserve to stay over Lia and Tre.
I know I can't taste the food, but believe me, It appeared that you made a terrible mistake in letting Tre go. He has contributed so much more than Casey ever will. I would wonder why you are even keeping Casey on the show?
And, what's the deal with everybody picking on Howie all the time? It's really apparent to the viewers that he's really good. And, getting screwed over by the others. The others seem to sacrifice him as a scape goat, so they can stay on the show.
Thanks for listening

I really loved what Bourdain wrote today, his assessment of the episode was spot-on. Poor Tre had to go, even if he is the best chef there. He'll do fine on his own, no worries! I don't think this show has ever been about who's the best chef, I think that it it's more about who can handle everything that's thrown at them and survive. You can be the best chef in the world, but if you can't lead a team, work well with others, keep the food from burning, etc. then there's no way you can win. Not winning on Top Chef doesn't make you a loser, it just means you had a bad day and have some things to improve upon.

In case anyone out there who has anything to do with it can hear me:
You're making it too obvious early in the episodes who is going to be eliminated. Whenever there is "around the house" or interview footage of someone saying that they have formed a bond with someone else, one of the two people who share said bond will be elimated, almost without fail. "Oh what's that Sara, Dale's your new gay buddy? You're going home." "So, Lia, Casey is your BFF? Bye Lia".
This episode not only did we see Casey discussing her sisterly affection for Tre, we got to hear Tre talk about being from the school of hard knocks and making his way up the latter starting with nothing. HMMMMM I wonder if we're being set up to feel sad when Tre gets sent home?
In my opinion, the show would be more suspenseful and entertaining if the endings weren't being given away so blatantly. If we're going to learn about who's buddy-buddy with who, at least spread it around a little and don't zero in on the player being eliminated that episode.

Ah...here come the whiners. "I won't watch the show again". And you know what, they always end up watching it again. How do I know this? Because I said the same things when LeeAnne got the boot, when Austin Scarlett got the boot, when Nick Verreos got the boot, etc. And I always ended up watching. Whoever doesn't watch the show again, good riddance. I'm definitely sad to see Tre go but I can totally buy the reasons for him leaving and there was definitely an element of arrogance and/or overconfidence involved. CJ is a sneaky one, he threw Tre over and under the bus. Dale and Hung are now my picks for final 2.

Ok, so Tre didn't demonstrate 'top chef' credentials last night. He was calm, collected and just a little cocky. Things I guess NO ONE wants in their chef. (chefs are never cocky, right Anthony B?) Let's see...who's left with what the judges believe is the RIGHT STUFF? Sara had one good night. wow. Not impressed. Hung will never get people to follow him, unless they're a bunch of his famous monkeys. CJ, Brian, CAsey- none of them have the cooking chops to make it. Howie? Ewwww......sweat city. Leaving us with Dale, who probably benefited most from Tre's loss. It's going to be a long rest of the season.

I'm tired of watching this. Since your show judge's on a "what have you done for me lately" method. It's only fair for me to be able to eliminate this program from my viewing schedule. It's just silly, I'm not convinced anymore that the final winner will be really the top. It's become more like Survivor, where talent doesn't have a real bearing on the winner.

I agree with the important points made by Susan. Who are these people saying they will never watch again because a certain chef has been voted off? People, have you forgotten that the viewers lack an extremely important component that the judges have? Taste! No matter how much class a chef has, how beautiful the food looks, etc., we can't taste it! Watching Top Chef is about the drama, the creativity, the human interaction. It really isn't about the food.

I can't believe you could let someone soooooooooooooo talented go. There were a few others that needed to exit! Tre has so much talent, he's won a few contests, he's won a trip to Italy, he's self taught, which says a lot, for his cooking skills!! Which are awesome. It's a big loss, he will be missed, and he should have been crowned "TOP CHEF".

I don't get how they vote off the best chefs. There needs to be some kind of consideration for the overall talent of each chef. Judging by one bad day (everyone has one) is not a balanced way to judge, especially when Tre has been one of the most consistent and best chefs on the show. I loved to see what he was going to create each week, and how he showed a lot of class in the middle of some idiots, (who's names I won't mention)
If the show is supposed to judge each chef's cooking ability, why doe's Brian get a free pass, and didn't cook anything, and by the judges views, didn't do good in the restaurant front. He should have went home in my opinion - Well, there no need to watch the rest of the season for me. There's no one else who is exciting and interesting to watch.
Oh yeah, what's up with that chick that couldn't chop onions, it took her like 30 minutes or something, maybe she should have gone home. As a matter of fact, I think she's been floating under the radar too long.

It is very difficult to judge, but I have to say, Tre shouldn't of been the one to leave. He did take on a big portion of the meals, but he needed someone to help him. In my opinion, Casey and C.J. are out for number one and aren't really that good at cooking as well. Tre will make it so much further then those two.

Shame on Bravo for forcing us to get a second helping of Chris Ciccone. What an idiot. Where his designs outstanding no. Just added some touches (paint, new dishes and new chairs) that the chefs did not have available the first go around. As for the rumors that he will be a permanent fixture on Top Chef, did any one else notice the conversation between Chris and the Garage/Quarte team. Chris whines about the presentation of the food and that it was not good in fact he did not want to eat it. Sara asks if he had any suggestions. Chris gives her a blank look and changes the subject to decor. That blank look said it all.
P.S. Is the restaurant that his sister bought him still open... impressive.

ultimately it wasn't the judges who are to blame for tre's early exit. it was his failure to step up, but just as equally the ridiculous decision to have so many group challenges in a row!!! by doing so, the field is still packed with mid-level chefs who've skated by on the strength of their teammates even as one of the favorites has been auff'd. when are we getting another individual challenge? seriously makes no sense on the production side.

I agree with JBolding- after last season I wasn't expecting Tre to win. It seems like the best strategy is to "lay low" as long as possible. That's what all the team mates of Tre did and it worked. I thought Hung was losing it after the first few episodes and I thought to myself the best way for him t survive is to be less conspicuous and he has. As upsetting as the outcome was I pretty much expected it to go down this way after CJ appointed Tre executive chef. But after reading articles on this guy- I know he'll be fine. I would have loved to have seen him get as far as Sam though- the drama other people seem to create is tiresome. Tre was refreshingly self focused and level headed. Boring I suppose to people who watch reality tv for the drama. As what happened when Sam was eliminated- I too have lost my interest in the rest of the season.
