Man was I deep in the 9/11 blues yesterday. All day. Ugh. We had dinner at the Odeon last night, which seemed like a fitting choice; the place was packed.

Down West Broadway, miles into the sky shone the bright commemorative lights memorializing all that was lost. There just won't be a better memorial than those lights. They are simple and moving and say all that needs to be said. Please, somebody, replace whatever cockamamie memorial is to come with the lights.

Wasn't yesterday a sad day? Unbearable reliving of 9-11-01 and it should be easier after six years, but it's not. Had trouble even watching the news about the memorial service near The old WTC for the victims with the ringing of the bell and roll call of the dead and placing of flowers by surviving friends & family. Finally went to sleep early because could still feel the unbearable aunguish, shock, & loss of that day six years ago. Didn't search the t.v. for 9-11-01 related stories as I did six years back, just turned it off something that I couldn't do then. Had to sleep with it on for weeks. Woke up when anyone turned it off.

Hey Andy,
Did you hear about the gay-bashing attack on Top Chef Smith-Malave???
The police are saying it was a hate crime. Josie, her sister and their friends were spit on and assaulted in a parking lot. It's in all the newspapers:
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime_file/2007/09/12/2007-09-12_top_chef_contestant_in_bias_attack.html
"Josie Smith-Malave, 31, a lesbian featured on season two of the Bravo cable show, and the other women suffered bumps, bruises and minor head injuries in the attack, attorney Yetta Kurland said last night.
"They were together for an end-of-summer visit, minding their own business, when these people went after them," said Kurland, "and we can't stand for this."
Kurland said the trouble started when the women went to Partners bar in Sea Cliff over the Labor Day weekend for a drink and began dancing together. Smith-Malave's sister is straight.
Bar employees escorted the women out a side door after other patrons began making nasty remarks and the mood started getting ugly, Kurland said.
Kurland said as many as 10 "young adults" followed the women out, circled them, screamed anti-gay slurs, spit on them and then punched and kicked them. A camera belonging to one of them was stolen, she said. Nassau police said they were investigating, but had made no arrests."
It's so shocking that something like this could happen in this say and age, especially to a gay BRAVO reality TV contestant.

What a horrific crime! We sometimes forget that the rest of America is not as tolerant and gay-friendly as BRAVO.
God speed to Josie and her family. Our prayers are with her.

Andy,
Thanks for the 9/11 sensitivity; it still hurts. Meliblu, that's so true about the TV back then. Also, 9/11 times were the origin of the ubiquitous scroll on screens everywhere. The light memorial is best for now, Andy, you are right.
