I miss Mama Cass. Don't you? What would she be doing if she were alive, I wonder. I guess she would be pretty old. Would she be getting a Kennedy Center Honor? Or would she be on "Celebrity Fit Club"? I just wonder, is all.

Anyway, I am still in LA and I am getting a wee bit done with my stay. "Ring My Bell" was great on Friday; thanks to everyone who called. In between calls, I was pondering the offensiveness of the word "retarded" and asked people to call in and opine on the word. Don't you know that :20 seconds later a gal in West Memphis, Alabama called in to say that she thinks the word is ok, and that she has a retarded cousin who she loves very much. And she said she was waiting for her friend Ashley to come over, and that they were going to "party." I asked her what that meant, that they were going to "party." She said that meant listen to techno music. And she said she was going to see "Rent" live that night and she was psyched. That's awesome.

While my new friend was seeing "Rent" in Alabama that night, I finally saw "Superbad". It was v LOL-inducing. And do you remember that my friend had a ladyaccident on my new suede stool in my apartment just about the week that film came out? And that there's a ladyaccident in the movie? Well I might have already made the connection in this blog, but I was faking it cuz my boss had told me about what happens in the movie. Now I've seen it so I can just say it all over again. I loved the movie but, as my friend observed, it did seem like the cops and the kids were in two totally different films. Right?

Ok...now I desperately want to hear about your dream. Can't be any weirder than some of the dreams my hubby has!

Andy, It is so funny you mentioned Mama Cass. Not only have on been on a Mamas and Papas listening jag, but sang California Dreamin' at a friend's 40th birthday karoake party on Saturday night. Also listened to Make Your Own Kind of Music yesterday.

Andy,
Thanks for asking about the use of the adjective "retarded." This really concerns me. It's safe to say that one wouldn't normally use, for example, "Niggery" or "Jewey" to describe the physical appearance or behavior of someone born of African or Jewish heritage. Using the word "retarded" to describe the actions or behavior of someone who is not actually developmentally retarded is just as wrong. I'd go as far as to say that it's evil. It's bad enough to hear kids use "retarded" but I'm amazed at the number of adults who also throw around that word--and on television! I speak from experience that if you've ever known someone with a mental or developmental condition, you would NEVER use the word "retarded" to describe someone or something that is less than adequate. To hear an adult use that word just breaks my heart.--Michael W.

Dare I say it? Cass would still be making her own kind of music, singing her own special song. And of course it would be while dreaming a little dream of me.

Hard to say with Mama Cass. She would have guest starred on Knots Landing thats for sure and probably on a "very sepcial" E.R. Question is, would she have gone disco in the late 70's. thoughts?

Hey Andy-

I'm not terribly well-versed in some of the great Yiddish sayings of old. Can you brush your readers up on what "fatootzed and familder'd" means?
