Everybody is talking about last night's shocker of an elimination on "Top Chef"... That executive chef role is a doozy and what a double-edged sword. If you fail at being an executive chef, the judges seem to send you home. Ask Tre from last season..
From Restaurant Wars to... Rihanna? Tonight is the big Rihanna challenge on "Step it Up and Dance". I actually don't ever get tired of hearing Um-be-rella, ella, ella, ella...
** Did anyone see the "Mary Tyler Moore Show" reunion on "Oprah" the other day? They (masterfully) recreated the WJM set and also Mary's apartment. The cast is pretty old at this point but it was a great treat to see them altogether. Valerie Harper and Georgia Engel seem to be the kids of the bunch at this point. Cloris had on a party dress and was very spunky. The whole show was about introducing the next cast member and then a lot of applause and then hugging and one question and then doing the same thing for the next cast member, so unfortunately you didn't get to really go deep into their reunion. But maybe that was just me and my 40 year old ass.
** There was a great Frank Bruni piece on the cover of the Dining In section of the Times yesterday about Florent. Kind of an oral history of the joint. It made me sadder about the whole thing.

I love your Cab notes. They are hilarious. My creepy repeat car service story. I called the company that NY'ers know has the all 7's phone number. (don't want to get in trouble for slander saying the name). Anyway, I used them in the summer from the airport. About 7 months later I used them again and when I told the driver my address he said oh I remember you. I know where you live. and proceeded to try and chat me up. It totally freaked me out and I never called them again!

Poor Jenna, she can't help it who her father is. She seemed very personable on Rachel Ray's show and Ellen. And no, I will never feel sorry for our president, back to the ranch and to hitting the bottle. btw your new picture is hot.

Yes Dave was eliminated and I disagree with it. How many chances is Lisa going to get. Every week she's in the bottom three, and every week she escapes. She is a horrible cook, who throws others under the bus, and whines all the time. Dave, although he has a bad temper, is a good cook. Now Lisa or Spike will be in the final four, and neither one belongs. Lisa screws up every week, and last night was no exception. Too bad Dave took the hit.

Just for the record, I think having none of the judges who actually made the most controversial decision of the year on Top Chef blog this week to defend/explain their decision is a huge faux pas by Bravo/Magical Elves, or whomever is in charge of that stuff.
Tom Colicchio doesn't blog at all any more. Gail Simmons blogs but she doesn't judge and this week she doesn't blog at all. Padma doesn't blog. Even Ted doesn't blog this week.
I did appreciate both the team and Le Anne's blogs, but I want to read what the judges had to say.
TO me, the most important part of this event is reading the judges' blogs since I can use only two of my five physical senses to make judgements: sight and sound. And those are limited by the editing.

I was very upset on the last episode of Top Chef. In a previous episode, the challange that all the chef's went to see an improv show. They were put into teams and told the challege was to create a dish from words given out at the show. Lisa and her partner was to use polish sausage and beer. Instead they used some kind of fish and tequila. Neither one of these two were eliminated. Jennifer was, and her and her partner used all the ingridents they were supposed to. Yet on the last episode Andrew did not use a grain in his meal, so that caused him to be eliminated. I have watched all episodes of Top Chef and enjoy it very mush. I also watch all the reruns no matter how many times they are the same ones. This seasons contestants are the most rude and erogant ones I have ever seen on this show. They are rude to the Judges and stand in elimanation like they dare the Judges to try and get rid of them. I have never seen so much disrespect on this show. In real life you as Judge would not let an employee talk to you like these people do. Keep up the good work as I will keep watch, althouth I hope Dale does kick Lisa in the ass, and the Judge wake up and get rid of her and Spike.

I will boycott the rest of the season of Top Chef 4. Dale should have not be eliminated. Lisa is such a inferior chef. She has consistenly made bad dishes with no flavor. Lisa being on Dale's team during restaurant wars was Dale's downfall. She was resistant to any direction and fought Dale all the way and was counter productive. Both her dishes sucked, and her non cooperative nature was the reason they lost the challenge. I'm sorry but I see no reason on why Dale was sent home instead of her. She has done nothing the whole season, except win for her bacon, the challenge when she was on Dale's team. Even then it was Dale that set the menu for that whole course. I have talked with alot of friends that loyally watch this show weekly. We are all turned off and decided to boycott the show period.

Hey Andy,
I agree with the general consensus regarding Dale and that despicable Lisa.
But what I am here to talk about something else--to suggest that any future restaurant wars have more time devoted to them, in the interest of fairness, for one. It's a huge HUGE task, and it would be the humane thing to do for the contestants to give them more time to execute it. One season you had a two parter, with a second opening--that was a great idea. It gave them a chance to iron out wrinkles, and troubleshoot.
Please, please, consider this format extension for the next restaurant wars-the present and former chefs in your viewing audience won't be cursing at your producers via their tv screens, and less gnashing of the teeth. Because while I'm not that far removed from the kitchen, I do get that pressure and time constraints are part and parcel of the whole deal here--but this borders on just plain mean.
Stop it! :-)
