It's the barbecue season!
You can chow down on burgers, ribs, hot dogs and potato salad....or clean up your act and save over 1,400 calories, 98 grams of fat, and 17 teaspoons of sugar.
Here's the scoop.... Traditional BBQ feast: cheeseburger on white bun 1 beef/pork sausage large scoop macaroni salad handful of barbeque chips glass of lemonade apple pie a la mode Total: 2,260 calories, 126 grams of fat, 48 grams saturated fat, and 109 grams sugar. Yikes! Although it's fine to splurge on occasion, go out of your way to try some of these healthy alternatives at your next summer feast. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Really!
LOSE the high-fat hamburgers... Instead, choose: Turkey burgers (make with lean ground turkey -- or buy Jenni-O and ShadyBrook Farm ready-made patties) Veggie burgers Sirloin burgers Bison burgers LOSE the hot dogs and beef or pork sausage... Instead, choose: Lean poultry sausage (try Casual Gourmet, Hans, Shady Brook Farms or Applegate Farm) Soy sausages (try Boca) LOSE the fatty steaks, ribs, and chicken wings... Instead, choose: Skinless chicken breasts Chicken, fish, or vegetable kabobs Fish (wild salmon, halibut, shrimp) LOSE the calorie-laden side dishes...
Instead, choose: Grilled vegetables (try zucchini, red peppers, and portabella mushrooms) Sweet potatoes or white potatoes Corn on the cob With my healthier swaps, check out the savings on calories, fat, and sugar... Healthier BBQ feast: turkey burger with reduced-fat cheese on a whole-wheat bun 1 turkey sausage grilled veggies (zucchini, portabella mushrooms, red peppers) baked sweet potato bottled water wedge of watermelon Italian ice Total: 800 calories, 28 grams of fat, 5 grams saturated fat, 38 grams sugar *We trimmed 1,460 calories, 98 grams fat, and 71 grams sugar...Thats how you gitter done healty!

Hey Brian,
At the beginning of the year, I decided that I was going to take control of my health, but REFUSED to go on another diet where I starved myself (Yes, yes I did Atkins, and lost weight...ate a cookie and gained it all back in a month). This time I decided that I could eat as much as I wanted, only it had to be healthy, and I was not going to settle on what ever was put in front of me.I make substitutions like you suggest above every single day (water instead of soda, carrot sticks and non-fat yogurt instead of chips and dip, a baked apple instead of apple pie). Well...I've lost 43 pounds since Jan 1st. I've also started walking for and 1 1/2 every day with my husband and my doggie every single day. (we are all happier and feel much, much better). I wanted to thank you and your Work Out team, you inspired me to continue when I was thinking about giving up (your show came on at the end of Jan. just as I was weakening)
Thanks, Y'all have empowered me to change my life!

You are very welcome Josie. We just try to help as many people out there as we can. It is tough to talk to everyone but we try to. I am glad we were able to help you find that drive to get up off that couch and do something about it. A big congarts to you keep up the good work! :D

Your wedding pictures are absolutely gorgeous - thanks so much for sharing with your fans!
Quick question - I've recently lost 45 pounds and my biggest challenge in my stomach and tightening it up. Any good suggestions? Also, I have an Ab Lounger and wanted to get your take on them!
Thanks a bunch and can't wait for the next season :-)

Hi Brian,
I am 23 and during the past 5 years I lost 2 people that meant the world to me. First was my high school sweetheart in a car accident. 2 years later I fell in love again and I woke up one morning to find he had passed away next to me one night. Needless to say I packed on some weight. Im 5'4 and weigh 185. Im completely miserable and have no self esteem. I would love to one day work with you. I've seen you on the show and absolutely love your personality and i'd just know you would push me. Any advice on how to train with you? I live on the east coast and I cant even find your gyms website...Other than eating right what are some ways I can get rid of the weight before I try working on the muscle? Thanks Brian so much

Hey Brian, I wondered if you have any tips for me; I lost a lot of weight by cutting back on carbs, but I stopped eating meat, except for seafood, so I'm keeping my caloric intake at 1200 cals a day, and working out/running almost every night, and I seem to have hit a wall. I'm not gaining or losing, and I have about 10 more pounds to lose, how can I get over this hump without going back to Atkins?

I have two more that i know I will have to bury soon and it breaks my heart everyday. I know how you feel and i want you to know that when you were going through your loss i was right there with you. My prayers are with you.

Brian,
I have a problem where I am not hungry at all but feel I have to be eating. I am 5'10' around 175 pounds. I had gotten up to 190 when I was like whoa! At that point I started watching what i eat and had gotten down to 165. The problem I have is I always am feeling hungryor Iwon't be hungry and feel the urge to eat. I try to stay at around 1500 clories to 2,000 calories a day and walking or running 2 miles a day. I am not sure that this makes sense or not but it is happeneing and wondered if there was anything you could suggest I do. I am just afraid I will just end up at 190 again or more. 190 for me was no muscle so I don't wanna go there again.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Brian,
I cried my eyes out when I saw the episodes about Doug's passing. The scene that touched me the most was the one where you told Chao about the hummingbird. That was amazing. I was wondering how Chao is doing. Do you keep in touch with him? I think he has an amazing soul and it was obvious that he and Doug had an incredible relationship. Does he have a blog or any info on how he's doing would be great.
Thank you and God Bless.

See the BBQ way you say to eat is so the way I eat now...I have always been a small, petite girl since the last I could remember but in 2000 I saw some pics from a vacation I took and I was like "who is that" so I weighted myself which I never do and I was shocked, I had gained oh like 50 lbs in a few years. How the hell did that happen? Oh too much drinking w/ the boys and going to fast food joints so I took charge myself. Took me over a year and a half and got to where I wanted to be...then now 7 yrs later I'm smaller just because my lifestyle change. Sometimes it helps not dieting but changing your way of life. I'm not going to lie I do love to have a drink every other night (glass of wine or a lite beer) w/ dinner BUT I don't over do it and I do splurge on Mexican food but we do it at home so we know how its being cooked. I love your show and your are my favorite trainer of all.

Brian,
I've been working out for 18 years, weigh 265lbs. and have 11% body fat. You seem to be a real nice guy, but I gotta say you're really not all that and you need to throw up some real weights before you start acting all big and bad. You're on major TV man, don't act it if you're not. You make yourself look alittle silly sometimes.

Dear Brian, My daughter and I love the show and especially you. I was very upset at the last episode when Jackie fired you. I think you got a raw deal, she's very tough on you and I think she needs to apologize. We think you're a great trainer and a great guy. Good luck with whatever is next and keep us posted.
