There are people in this world that don’t have a lot of “gray area” in their lives… you either love them or you hate them. They’re dangerous people because they tell it like it is -- no holds barred. And the like it or not approach can have you bending over from laughing cramps or turning your nose up in utter distaste.
Kathy Griffin is one of those people; and for the record, I love her. The tell-all stories of her celebrity encounters, her on-hand experiences with the troops overseas, those hilarious red carpet blunders with Star Jones, Ryan Seacrest and Clay Aiken -- Oh MY! All in all a truly talented woman, and regardless of your age, gender or political views, you will surely get something out of Kathy’s show… though if you’re a left-wing, gay male you’ll probably laugh the loudest.
I was lucky enough to receive tickets to her sold out show the other week here in NYC, and jumped at the opportunity to meet her (sorry for the canceled dinner plans, friend who knows who you are). An uproarious and energetic two-hour show that actually had me crying, bowled over with stomach pains from laughing so hard and massaging my cheeks from smiling too much. The show was a seamless success except for this one obnoxious guy in the balcony who found it necessary to shout out “gay” every five minutes, needless to say he only used it as a correct punch line once, but c’mon, we paid our money to see Kathy! If we wanted drunk, obnoxious mo we’d go down 8th Ave on a Friday night!
My friend Jerry (who is so gracious, you should all get yourself one) informed me that we could go backstage and meet the queen herself and I suddenly felt like a blushing bride: How did I look? Would she know who I was? Uh-oh, I didn’t have flowers/present/anything because of this last minute invite I hope she doesn’t notice and think I’m an ass! Needless to say, Kathy was a complete doll, still “on” even though she was off-stage, and only gave me a little crap about my new blogging gig…. Admittedly, I did feel a bit sheepish that I didn’t have this huge company up and running at this point… until the new Bravotv.com site went up and I saw her blog right next to mine! C’mon Kathy, we all can’t be on the D-list -- we have to start somewhere! Honestly though, it was one of the funniest shows I’ve been to in a long time and if you’re considering buying tickets or not, I promise you won’t be disappointed – and with a sex tape costarring Dame Judy Dench in the wings, I can only imagine the debauchery in the next show!

Now, the next little nugget of goodies comes to you after I’ve had a few days to let it digest and sink in -- ‘cause honestly, if I had written this immediately after it happened I might’ve sounded like a giddy 10-year-old girl unwrapping her freakin’ x-mas pony. Needless to say, if meeting the infamous Sarah Jessica Parker doesn’t do that to you then I don’t know what’s wrong with you.

It's sort of stupidly funny - I'll give you that. But it's not a serious thing, is it?
Someone help.

Speaking of which. You should totally come to Kansas... on purpose and everything. I might just have a small fit while trying to act like I meet celebrity's on an everyday basis. Nothing too scary though, I promise. :)

Thank you for sharing your life and your talent with the rest of us! Also, incredibly happy for you to have met both SJP and Kathy Griffin. Both great representatives for those of us who try to hold ourselves up as independent, free-minded women of the 21st century. Obviously you agree! Hopefully you will be able to dress both of them at some point in the near future!

Sarah Jessica Parker is gracious, warm, and won me over with her sparkling smile when I met her at a Q&A session after viewing The Family Stone in October. I was so excited to meet her just like you, but if you asked me to tell you what we talked about I think I was too busy wetting my pants to catalogue our conversation.
I was never a fan of Kathy Griffin until last Tuesday when I watched her show and heard her spoof on Celine Dion and then she admitted something that I almost never admit, she gave her dogs personalities and voices. I often find myself making voices for my dog and creating scenarios for her to participate in.
I have never met you Daniel, but I did see you walk by the Time Warner building at Columbus Circle one day in March. I was walking my dog and I starred at you walking by hoping that I would find the courage to walk over and talk to you. Unfortunatly for me I was left speechless and just watched you pass by. I would be just as excited to meet you, maybe more exicted. You won me over with your personality and humor.
Congratilations on Project Runway.

I love most when kathy rags on the balck female demigods. BUT, what I don't get is the same ol sad ass predictable image of gay white men time and damn time again.
What the fuck is that. Are there no gay people of color? Or is it that the producers of these shows have no interest in the exploitation of gay life that isn't pink in tone. Hummm

Dear Daniel,
Amazing. That's basically all I really should say (in order to spare you from a long, probably endlessly boring story.) However, since I have the chance to say more, I think I'll take it. So, first of all, I'd like to say that you are positively my favorite designer on Project Runway. Although, from the look of your comments on these blogs, it seems like you’re the favorite with many people, and you've heard just about every thing I could ever say a thousand +1 times. So, now that I've rambled on, I should probably close this up before it becomes a page long. What I mean to say is, you are an amazing boy with some great talent, and if I weren't totally broke, (hey, I'm a teenager, besides getting a job, there's not much I can do about the money situation) I'd actually ask if you could custom design something (although, (one) you probably wouldn't, and (two) I'm probably the furthest thing from a model you could ever meet... although I do suppose I could hang it on my wall...) Anywho, again with the rambling, sorry.
I'll cut it short. You're an amazing person, you have some great talent, and I hope you get where ever it is you want to be with your designing. =)
Signed,
Stephanie

Daniel, it is no wonder this adjective could easily be used to describe you as a person, as well as your work. Gracious, kind and enormously talented. I am hesitant to "compare" people with others. We are each individuals. But, where your design is concerned, please indulge me. It is meant to be complementary. My Mother loves and wears a lot of Valentino. Your approach to design reminds me of V. She always looks so put together, timeless and radiant wearing his clothes. Your body of work has such great range, fresh attention to detail ... simply said ... exquisite & beautiful. Notwithstanding all of these elements, you seem to be a very grounded and sincerely nice person. Continued success . . .

allright ive just realized this is a novel and youre never going to read it all the way through.. but what you do read i hope you laugh at or something.

Kathy is my favorite comedian at the moment (besides Conan O'Brien) because she doesnt fear what anyone thinks of her and she says what we all are thinking, kind of like Simon Cowell.
Of course Kathy turns heads because shes bluntly honest and what person likes to hear the truth about themselves? One with a good sense of humor wont take it personally, instead they would laugh at what she has to say.She even pokes fun at herself which is cool and it is what any good comedian would do. I love anyone that can make me laugh and laugh at themselves.Kathy is a nice person, being funny is who she is on or off stage and she wont ever change. If she wasn't offending anyone and making them laugh then I dont think she would feel she was doing her job.I hope to see Kathy's show one day!
