All the cool kids in my elementary school had them. Lunchboxes. They had to be tin, not plastic. They had to have a matching thermos and they had to announce exactly what you were in to. Something studly, like Spiderman, for boys and something pretty in pink, like Cinderella, for girls.

My lunch carrying accessory was a brown paper bag ... that my mom would write embarrassing notes on. One day my arch enemy Richard Wacker, who terrorized me often, stole my bag and read a message out loud in which my Mother expressed her tender love for me. Ohhhhhhhhh Noooooooo.

I remember those lunch pails way back when I rode the school bus. Not one I wanted. One my parents picked out. Dark navy blue. When I had a job I began a clever run with a specially designed bag, but I got tired of being so with it. So I switched to plain old paper bags. They were the best. I stored piles of them, even bought bags of bags. Some of the guys at work used to tease me about my lettuce sandwiches because I had only one slice of bread and all they could see was the lettuce on top. Brown paper bags are the best. I think they're very in. I was lucky, though. No one sneaked gooey notes in mine.

I had a cool lunchbox, just like the ones you're speaking of. Mine, however, didn't have anything cool on the inside. While everyone else was partaking in the baloney sandwich, Ding Dongs, Nacho Cheese Doritos and Coke, mine had a peanut butter and honey sandwich, applesauce, carrot sticks and juice in the thermos. I was so envious. I'd look around at all the junk food and wonder why my mom was so out to lunch!
