Recently I took a week off work and drove across Arizona with my dog Lou.
We passed through Prescott where my grandparents live and where I spent a lot of my childhood. I went a little out of my way to check out the old Drive-In theater, now abandoned. When I was little it was a place full of life, wonder and imagination. Of all the places you can have a Drive-In Movie Theater nothing beats Arizona. Picture if you will a dusty desert floor, blood red sunset, sky for miles and Indiana Jones the size of a football field.
These magical movie moments brought our family closer together. My dad would call home on his CB radio (his handle was "Tom Tom" and mine was "The Boot.") He would announce we were going to the Drive-In, which at the time was the most electric, exciting place I knew. It was like winning tickets to the moon.

Bryan, I think Drive-Ins are a huge part of everyone's memories! Everybody my age remembers going to the drive in in their pajamas, and playing on all the swings and things in front of the big screen. You know Gramma Carter and I went to every single Elvis movie at the drive in. Gramma was a little old for Elvis, but she loved him because he loved his mother! Those drive in jaunts with Gramma (Peggy, you're a contrary heathen!) Carter are some of my favorite memories.
By the way, I saw Mico just last week, and he asked how the Boot was!!!
