1. Kithaus : Have you ever seen something so cool it makes you just about lose control of your bladder? Well, as soon as I saw this one, I headed straight for the john...
When you're a kid the simplest things can set your imagination running wild. For me it was big cardboard boxes. Like many kids I was always excited by the arrival of a big new appliance. That's because they always came in a sturdy humongous box. My dad and step-mom would ooh and ahh over their brand purchase and I'd be running off with the big box, plotting its miraculous transformation. Hours later it would become my latest top secret Fort. I was always in charge of construction and decorating it. I was like the designer on one of those TV home remodel shows… But I always went overboard.
When dad brought home a new refrigerator and dish washer, I saw it as an excuse to make my little brother Chad a two-story house scaled down to his four-year-old proportions. But two boxes stacked on each other just wouldn't do. Suddenly, I decided he "needed" a house with a porch, complete with columns and an opening front door and, to top it off, windows with automatic shutters rigged to open or close with an impossibly complicated string and pulley system.

Hi Bryan_
Coming home from work, notably after a wet, dreary Monday, there is nothing more comforting than my quaint, humble abode. It's like an old, familiar friend that's stood by me unconditionally, when the rest of the world has left me cold. I believe there is a positive trend towards 'less being more'; as humanity re-thinks (for numerous reasons) its exaggerated, square footage of yesteryear. I feel these sweet retreats are a fine idea. Especially, when I'm craving stillness, in a house with three teenagers and no Calgon to "take me away".

One of my favorite "box" creations was a gingerbread house I made for a kid party. Our elementary school had some desks delivered and I snagged the box and drove home with it on top of my van. Then I went to work with paint, styrofoam, colored cellophane, cotton and anything else I could think of. The kids loved it. I painted two gingerbread figures on one side and I cut out circles for their faces. When they poked their heads through, they looked like little gingerbread girls and boys. They were obsessed with it. It makes me so glad I took the time to play when I look at all the photos from the party that year. Kudos to you Bryan for never losing the desire to play and turning it into an amazing career!

Bryan: Your reports always hit a personal note with me, these wee wonders are right up my ally as well! I own some land, a future escape in the desert adjacent to the CO River, I have long thought of either buying a mini kit house or getting an Airstream trailer for my escapes there but this company creates such artistic and functional spaces. Your story about the cardboard boxes brings back memories, there was the Christmas when at 5 I asked my parents for a doll house, as a boy ... they FREAKED! Well it wasn't the dolls I was into it was the mini space, they did not get me one so I built my own out of cardboard, I continued to build larger and larger, and today ... design on the side, thank you for your insight!
