One of the interesting things about working at Bravo is observing the split between the company’s New York and Los Angeles offices. In many ways, the differences between the two parts of the company mirror the differences between the two cities.
At the New York office (and much of this is based on what I’ve heard, since I have not been over there) one of their big problems seems to be overcrowding. At 30 Rock, they have continued to double, and even triple-up people in offices. Much as it is in Manhattan, real estate at Bravo New York is at a premium. Meanwhile, over here in LA we have plenty of space.
At the sprawling Burbank office many rooms stand empty, only used when someone from NY is visiting. They’ve even been able to give me my own cubicle – allowing me ample privacy to come up with these blog posts. As I sit in the half-empty conference room during our development meetings, watching as the burgeoning crowds of 30 Rock try to squeeze into their conference room, I can’t help but feel a little bit pleased with myself, that I had the foresight to choose sunny SoCal over crowded New York (maybe it wasn’t foresight so much as blind luck).
