So I am half way through with my internship here at BRAVO in the digital media department as an editing intern and I pretty much love it. Essentially what I do is package and prep the media that goes to the website. So after a show when they say "Go to BRAVOTV.com to see more interview etc" -- you are seeing things that I have created from the video content that was provided by the production company or things that we have shot ourselves.
This is a place where I don't have to answer any phones( which is rare for an internship) and I get the opportunity to actually get on the computers and work with the editing system which in turn allows me to have spots that are actually produced for the website. Although many people think that digital media is disposable -- the reality is that the Internet is forever and no matter where I go in my future career there will always be a link to the work that I have done here (This is pending that they don't take it down, but from what I understand -- they won't).
Now, with that said the editing that I do is very remedial in terms of the broader scope of editing in the film and television world, but somebody needs to do it, and if say, in the future, they would want to pay me for my superior and lightning speed skills I would not turn down the opportunity. The job and the people (Peter and Galen) are super chill and they really trust me to be able to get the job done right. The best part is that it is a legitimate internship for my resume which is more then I can say for most. You really would believe the nightmare internships I have had. I actually had one in which I had more experience than the other interns -- they made me in charge of the interns.
While this was flattering, I really wasn't able to learn anything, I was doing a job that they should have been paying someone to do and there was absolutely no room to move up in the company so there was no way that they would have offered me a job. Going into that particular internship led me to believe that I would actually be editing and when it came to it I was essentially doing managerial work.
BRAVO is not that internship thankfully. I am doing exactly what I was told I would be doing when I got hired. NBC Universal (Bravo's parent company) is really a great company to intern with because they really try to make the most of your experience with events planned for the interns to meet with people in the industry and really get a hands on experience.
