What a semester! Holidays are here, finals are (finally!) over and sadly my time as a Bravo intern is coming to a close. I have to say this has been a wonderful experience that I'm really going to miss. From editing clips for the web to shooting a fashion show, working the red carpet, being on a reality set, and of course, bursting occasionally into song and dance about being a Bravo intern, I'm leaving my internship with many great stories and memories. Over Thanksgiving I took a trip back to Jersey where its a little colder and three hours later than it is in Los Angeles. While I was there...Andy Cohen invited me to visit Thirty Rock! I was really excited to meet the East Coast team that I heard so much of through conference calls and emails back in Burbank. I hopped on a bus to Port Authority and made my way...]]>

Part of my job as an intern here at Bravo is to fill in for coordinators. It’s a good way for interns to prove that they have the ability to act as a paid member of the staff, while still retaining that free labor status.
A big part of the job is answering phones. A common misconception about interns is that we’re afraid of phones and having to talk to the person on the other line. What we really fear is the question about to be asked, because let’s face it, we probably don’t have the answer.
For example, the first time my day came to fill in for somebody it was the Friday before the Emmy’s. When I got calls like, “When is Tim Gunn getting his Emmy tickets?” and “Can you change Padma’s flight for me?” I was unable what-so-ever to help the person on the other line (and in these...]]>
Hey! I’m Chris Ultimo. I’m from New Jersey, I go to Emerson College in Boston, and currently I’m an Intern for Bravo Digital Media in the Burbank lot (Emerson has a west coast campus which kind of cuts back a bit on commuting time between classes and our internships). I decided to spend my last semester in college away from Boston’s (mind numbingly cold!!!!) fall weather to learn and make my way into the entertainment industry that I’ve studied so much.
In school I’ve been a film major with a love for audio production…so much so that when I initially sat down to write this blog last weekend I found myself writing a song about my Bravo and NBC experiences instead. From that point,...]]>
So I am half way through with my internship here at BRAVO in the digital media department as an editing intern and I pretty much love it. Essentially what I do is package and prep the media that goes to the website. So after a show when they say "Go to BRAVOTV.com to see more interview etc" -- you are seeing things that I have created from the video content that was provided by the production company or things that we have shot ourselves.
This is a place where I don't have to answer any phones( which is rare for an internship) and I get the opportunity to actually get on the computers and work with the editing system which in turn allows me to have spots that are actually produced for the website. Although many people think that digital media is disposable -- the reality is that the Internet is forever and...]]>
So it’s been about a month since I started interning here at Bravo. I must say thanks to the summer interns because reading their blogs got me really excited to start working. I just hope mine are up to par.
As Rich explained in an earlier blog, the Bravo offices are constructed like a glass maze which often leads to awkward encounters in the hallways. This is quite true, especially when you take into consideration the high-security of these halls. In order to get from door to door you must have an NBC ID that swipes you in. This includes the front door, the door to publicity, the door to the executive offices AND the door the bathroom.
Now, being an intern one doesn’t have as much clout as you may think. It took awhile for me to get an ID and therefore I spent quite some time lingering by the doors...]]>
I’m taking three guesses as to why you’re reading the Bravo intern blog: a) the obvious -- you’re bored and somehow a night’s worth of internet surfing has led you here, b) you want to know the inner workings of Bravo and decided the intern was the person to turn to, or c) you’re my mother.
In the first case, I commend you for stepping away from youtube and Wikipedia. I’ll try to make this venture worth your while. If you picked B, well, I can tell you that all you wanted to know about Bravo I can see from my little dub room. That is, if all you wanted to know was access to DVDs of every show Bravo’s aired. And if you’re my mother, I’m just surprised you could find the site.
After reading a couple of the previous intern blogs I’ve gotten the idea I’m supposed to write about all of...]]>

One of the interesting things about working at Bravo is observing the split between the company’s New York and Los Angeles offices. In many ways, the differences between the two parts of the company mirror the differences between the two cities.
At the New York office (and much of this is based on what I’ve heard, since I have not been over there) one of their big problems seems to be overcrowding. At 30 Rock, they have continued to double, and even triple-up people in offices. Much as it is in Manhattan, real estate at Bravo New York is at a premium. Meanwhile, over here in LA we have plenty of space.
At the sprawling Burbank office many rooms stand empty, only used when someone from NY is visiting. They’ve even been able to give me my own cubicle – allowing me ample privacy to come up with these blog posts....]]>

It’s finally here! It’s that time of year! No, it’s not Christmas…it’s the last day of my internship! Another summer come and gone, and now, I’ve only got one more summer to come back to Bravo. While its been fun here on the East Coast, maybe next summer, I’ll try to intern with the West Coast offices.
Even though I haven't written in a while, this will be, sadly, my last blog for the summer. It's not exactly fun when half your team's missing in your last week and you're left to figure everything out on your own. At least my second last day didn't go half as bad as Rich's (sorry, Rich, I've confiscated the dub room scissors, and we won't be jumping off a bridge anytime soon).
Well, what can I say except…any last dubs? I really hope not, at this point, I’ve still got to make it through an...]]>

I feel as if I just walked into 30 Rockefeller Plaza, took that god-awful ID photo that I was stuck with for a few months, and awkwardly introduced myself to every single walk of life that I encountered.
But, it is that time. My internship-- and therefore my summer-- is coming to an end.

The last few months have been great. Most recently, I shared an intimate moment with Padma Lakshmi. I tagged along to an interview with New York One in Central Park and watched in awe. She really does present herself well, and despite what people may think she has quite the impressive resume. She’s an actress/model/writer/chef/TV personality/ambassador/etc. Anyway, I was introduced to her as a Bravo intern who is a big fan of Top Chef. She smiled, shook my hand, and said “Hi Mike!” What exactly I responded with is kind of a blur, but it probably included a...]]>
Because I’ve never been good at saying goodbye or any type of change, let’s just do this: I’ll give you one last “Rich the Intern” story, and we’ll leave it at that.
