Valley Oak Two

What drew me to Valley Oak Two was the architecture. The 1950's post and beam homes are extremely popular in Los Angeles but very hard to come by. Even when I do find them, I’m usually bidding against several different people. I usually can’t compete with the owner/users who can pay retail with the intention of holding the property long term. I'm passionate about modern homes and feel lucky when I am able to secure one in escrow. This was a great find. A victory in a way.

jeff_102_02_320x240.jpg

The major challenge at Valley Oak two was the weak floor plan. We’re now working towards creating a new space with a better flow. We chose to open the cramped galley kitchen to the living room. This created a considerable amount of natural light that previously did not exist. It also will enable someone to work in the kitchen while enjoying the view.

Jeff, I love your personality, you remind me of a very dear friend of mine, Alden... Anyway; You already know you are excellent at what you do, I give you credit for that- but I like you because you are a good person and quck on the draw and a sharp mind. Sharp minds are not so common these days! So, you have a few different personalities, so what? They all make up one big one, YOU; Jeff. I am glad to watch you on Bravo! There are things about you that remind me of myself and most of them are good things. I tend to be a little quick tempered and impatient, but like you... I am working on it.
I look forward to seeing this show and all the challenges you are presented with.
One more thing, way to go with the beautification of the world, one home at a time.

At first I wasn't interested in the show, then I watched it and remarkably found a lot of myself in Jeff. Ironically it's comforting to find that quirks and OCD can be validated in a work profession. Thanks so much Jeff. I too hear the voices every time I walk into someone's house and I'm glad to know it's not just me. Your houses are beautiful and exquisite. Your are an inspiration.

I really enjoy the show, I watch it every time it's on. I think that you do wonderful work. After watching last nights episode, I feel that Ryan can be a little demanding and uncompromising. And I also thought the comment he made about not leaving his daughter with you for "one second" was uncalled for. Otherwise, I think that you are brillant and an inspiration. Don't change for anything and keep up the great work!

Jeff, love the show and your animals! There is a little OCD in all of us. I am glad to see that you are so positive and wish your buyers well - thats "Karma". Hope to see more pictures of the homes finished and furnished. I am remodeling my house which is 6000 square feet and planning to add more spanish features to it. Looks a little like Nottingham but in Texas. Unfortunately my builder took many short cuts and now I have to redo some of the work 4 years later. It's hard to find quality work now a days. I would love some pictures of Nottingham for ideas if possible. Will Keep watching!

I love this show and am so impressed with your ability to "see" the houses' potential. I do want to know if you make most of the decisions as far as finishes and stuff. Things like flooring, tile fixtures or do you have designers that you work with? Great show, thanks for letting us look into your life.

Typically when you say someone "has a vision" at their work it's code-speak for "doesn't reside in reality with the rest of us," but this isn't true of Jeff. OCD and outward-facing labels aside, I think Jeff is hard-working and willing to live what he does, which is one of the things that makes the show so interesting to watch. Also the supportive friends and crew. If my apartment didn't include basic cable, I'd probably be reading books instead, but I catch this show without fail.

Jeff,

You're my hero... who needs HGTV? I can watch your show and get remodeling ideas and laughs at the same time.

OCD... ADHD... are just ways to label people (I've been diagnosed with both). The unenlightened will call you "crazy", but we all know that we're on this earth to provide a little user-friendly madness (and cheap entertainment).

You are definitely doing what you should be doing in life-- don't ever doubt that. You put your heart and soul into your flips, which is unheard of in that business. Your taste is impeccable.

I look forward to seeing what you do with Valley Oak 2, as I'm really into Mid-Century Modern and Contemporary design. Despite the disappointment of watching the demo of the previous owner's renovations, I understand the need to open it up and make way for fabulousness. (flashing back and forth between the pinata and the demo was priceless, by the way!)

As mentioned by a previous poster, you might want to check into donating anything salvagable to Habitat for Humanity.

They operate a Habitat Re-Store where I live and they basically take in all of the stuff that people tear-out during renovations, salvage items, blems, overruns, etc. and sell it to the public. I'm guessing H4H would have something similar in the LA area.

Regarding the psychics--

Fiona IS the real deal. It was obvious. If she's not, then she's a damn good actress. Torie struck me as being disengenuine.

To the poster above (Mary) regarding travertine-- Jeff's right! It is so over! And the reason builders are still using it is because it is CHEAP ($2.99 sq ft).

They're capitalizing on the fact that most first-time buyers are clueless as to what's hot and what's not in building materials (and the cost of said materials).

If you get a wild-hair to post some more pics, I'd love to see some pics of the pool at Valley Oak 1. Now that you've described the concept of it, I think that may be the solution to the dilemma I'm facing of trying to put a pool on my hilly lot.

Thanks!!!

Hello Jeff,
The last show really was the break through show for me where I began to start to understand and identify with the characters. Your reliance on psychics is not very strange at all. Kings, dictators, religious leaders, first ladies, fashion consultants and many others have been relying on them for centuries. I am no expert on this area but I have read a few things that would lead me to believe you made a good choice to switch to this new psychic. From what I understand of psionics and mysticism they require a clear conscious and pure motives to make an astral connection.
To also recap on the prior episode's issue with at acupuncturist, I think Monkey responded that way because of a lack of trust of Stephen. Felines have the most keen senses of all higher functioning mammals and they know how people feel about them. That is why cats take so long to warm up to people compared to dogs.
Well, keep up the great job you are doing. I love the show.

Helen wrote:

Hey Jeff, I've been watching your show, and I do like it. I love your creativity and your ability to see the big picture.
However, two things really get to me, and I find that I have to comment on them.
1) Monkey does not like his Accupuncherist. He HATES her. Because she is hurting him. I know, because he told me so. (Believe me, I have been able to communicate with animals for YEARS, (regardless of how near or far away they are) it's one of my psi abilities.) Also, he is craving fresh, raw chicken liver. (Thought you might like to know that.)
2) You are stressing out way too much. When you stress, it causes your babies (your two cats and two dogs) to stress, which is one reason why at times they seem to be "off their feed".
One more thing, even though the show with your "Father" hasn't aired yet, kick the bum to the curb and keep him there. That man is not a Father, or a Dad. He's a parisite.
Be well.

I really want to know what materials you are using in your work - tile names, cabinet names etc... You have the potential to be a true trend setter and make a lot of money by associating yourself with your high end products. I really hope you have a second season then a third then a fourth...

On another note, I love that you care about reading and clearing energy with people and spaces. It is not being crazy, it is being impeccable. Other people may not feel energies with such sensitivity, but hopefully, they will reap the benefits of someone caring enough to clear the space for them.
I am impressed by the psychics on 12Listen. Finding a good one (or several!) is not always easy, and the ones I have found there are not sophomoric.

And I have to say that my jaw DROPPED when your agents wouldn't split the cost for the repairs on this weeks episode!!!!! My loan officer I work with call me during the show to see if I was watching this episode and we both sat in amazement that they had a problem with it. Now, I will say it is isolated instances when I have had to do it but all the more reason that I AGREE TO DO IT!! He is committed to his beliefs and I respect that. I am still laughing over the scene of Bowman taking Monkey to Dr. Scanlan (acupuncturist). We have flipped houses before and had extreme results. My husband is so good at his contracting skllls he even turned a run down church into an awesome 6 bed/2 gourmet kitchen, 4 bath home that was completed and sold in just over 3 months.. We would love to join your team. We live and work in the South Bay and would be a fantastic asset to you both in contracting, and realtor skills. ( I would have contributed all of the $10,0000 commission) you asked your present realtors for. Honestly, my husband has a great team, does awesome work, and knows how to get the work done before the deadline... He learned this by doing our own.. Please let me know if you would like to hear more about us....

Hi Jeff, I think the show is great. Try to follow as much as possible. I wasnt sure how else to contact you but I had a suggestion for you.
Have you ever thought of placing cameras (require power and internet at the site) at each work site so that rather than driving to each site and/or trying to keep track of contractors. You can view them on your CPU/Laptop anytime 24/7.
The show can also use them as well for TV
The cost of the cameras, internet and power would be saved by the savings on gas.
Take care and if you have any questions. you have my email

I've been reading the comments from the blogs, and i find that most have no understanding of what it is that you do. Few people in your line of work create the kind of "Cleansing" that you do. Your approach to a project is well, flawless. Most flippers create a bad name for themselves by doing cheap work for cheap buyers on cheap homes, and are not in for the long haul. Plenty of penny wise and dollar foolish flippers out there. Most do not resonate a spirit of a house, which you either create, or re-invent by stripping a house to its soul and rebuilding. What.. a building has soul? Yes. L.A. is lucky to have you. If you need some help, give a shout! John.
P.S. About Palm Springs...after dong several projects there, I can tell you there is no real estate group focusing on the super rich. The last thing anyone in Palm Springs needs is another 3 bedroom mid century re-do by a gay guy. There is tons of potential in the upper tiers and with famous homes owned by Hollywood elite designed by the most prolific architects of the 20th century. This should be a win, win for you.

They all love you (it's so obvious) but if you are so mean all the time to them they'll turn on you or worse leave you. It's funny as heck to watch you 'flip out' but at the same time your stress level must be through the roof. Learn to let the little things slide. Life is short and stress will kill you - it's a medically proven fact. Be a good boss and know when to push and when not to. Poor Chris looked like he was going to cry when he told you how he felt. And let's not forget you already made Stephen cry. You seem like a great guy - just a few suggestions for a happier life :)

I have never posted a comment on a blog but I felt compelled to do so this time based upon some disturbing things I observed on this show. "Reality TV" is really a misnomer because once a camera is turned on someone, reality is no longer real. I sincerely hope this is the case, Jeff, because the camera insinuates a number of things about you that are less than flattering, not the least of which is your striking resemblance to Leona Helmsley both physically and temperamentally, and we all know what happened to her. I sincerely hope that you are in therapy; however, I fully realize that if indeed you are so narcissistic, then it is unlikely you would be able to find a therapist who could possibly know more than you. Nevertheless, if you are not in therapy, I would recommend that you try to locate a genuine and an especially honest therapist before you alienate everyone in your life except those who will only use you for their own gain or adore you because you are on television. This is already happening whether you are aware of it or not. You are clearly smart and talented, but a little charm and respect for others could make you even more successful than you already appear to be.

Also you and your business partner could work as consultants to others. All this could give you some regular working capital to maintain your needs and leave the rest of your revenue for deal building. Write more on your blog when you have some time. They don't have to be long. Limit yourselve to one topic and 100 words. And Jeff OCP and ADD are just pop psycho babble. You possess a high IQ a gift for detail and talent for mulitasking. Your housekeeper is your Momma figure that gives you comfort. Your two sub assistants are your younger brothers who pick up the details and agravate the heck out of you but give you that sense of family and brothers in your corner. This show is GREAT! I love it so much and I love how you fix up your homes. All I have to say is that I understand you not wanting onions in your food. I am the same way, they are pretty gross...so whom ever thinks you went off the deep edge...they just don't get it....hope you have another season waiting for us to watch...keep flipping!

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! I not only love the ability to see the before and afters created by Jeff and his team but the interaction of everyone is so much fun to watch. You have a very quirky group and it makes me laugh! Jeff's sense of humor is hilarious.....and his OCD just makes him human. I hope you will be coming back for a second season. BTW - we see Jeff's work side, is there a playful side to him as well? and if so is there a new man in his life? Just curious. Keep up the good work!

I think your relationship with your father is truly inspiring. The fact that you understand him and accept him as a flawed ,but ever so lovable Dad, is to be admired. NO,do not pay him back for your education! His money was very well spent.Tom Lewis has made his best investment to date.

I stumbled accross your show one Sunday afternoon. I was so intriuged! I told my daughter that she had to see it! My 1st thought was that you were a jerk.
My daughter made me realize that the reason I loved you and the show was because I needed to be just like you!
So true!
May you never get ulcers!
You are my hero!

I just love you Jeff I have enjoyed this show all season. I can relate to being obcessive compulsive and the anxiety when things are not all in order and flowing well. I also enjoy the staff but they need to understand that attention to detail is a must and they know what pushes your buttons! I wish you well and I hope for another season of Flipping Out! Next I think you need a nice relaxing vacation to regenerate and rejuvinate. A suggestion to you is give Chris a few more compliments he does try and he shows respect to you as a friend and employer, we arent all rocker scientists :)

Jeff,
I have looked forward to watching "Flipping Out" every week and am so sad that tonight was the season finale. This show is the best reality show EVER and you are the one that makes it so great! I love the interactions you have with your staff and the absolute love and kindness you have for your pets. You are so real and the finale had me in tears. You're the best, please come back for a second season!

Jeff, I can really identify with you---people have refered to me as "bitchy" more times than I can count, but I would die for my dogs. Maybe if most people were as smart as my dogs I would become more pleasant . Thanks for being such a good example of how a loving responsible pet owner cares for his babies. Your pets are darling, especially your dogs! I think your humans may need a little work.

I have to tell you, I just adore this show. This has become my favorite Bravo show and I have watched all of them, including my least favorites Final Cut and Top Design. At first, I thought Jeff was insufferable, but now I feel like I have made a new friend. Please bring him back next season, and Jeff, if you ever need an assistant with 2 kids, I'll be happy to endure the abuse.

Dear Jeff,
I absolutely love watching your show! I think all of your extended family (Jenny,Zoila,Ryan,Bowman,Steven,Monkey, etc) are hilarious.:) Thank you for opening up your life to give us all a glimpse of what you do and how you live. You are a special gift to all of us who watch. I am curious though, about what you do after work. Like, what your favorite food is, what you do for entertainment, if you have found someone special you share your off time with (since you aren't with Ryan anymore). I was really touched by how you showed appreciation for everyone who works for you. Success, Abudance, Wealth, and Increase to you, Jeff!

Jeff, I am in love with you! Thank goodness I don't live out there in CA I would be buying house's from you just to keep meeting you. Not only are you a beautiful man, but you are really a beautiful man to the soul. With a show like this its hard to hide and not show the real Jeff. Anyone who works as hard as you do, is as driven as you seem to be is my ideal of a perfect man. Then you throw in the mix that you are truly a kind and caring soul, made me weak in the knees. The best of all was your love of your animals. anyone who cares that much for his animals is good to the soul. Don't worry about getting into heaven, god has a special place for someone like you. Should you ever get board living out there is that nasty earthquake laden CA....... Lol love you, love the show. I never ever write "fan" letters, but I couldn't let this pass without telling you how much I have enjoyed the show, and feeling like I met a real, wonderful living soul.

Hello Jeff. I admire your persistence, as well as your drive in following your dream. I have been wanting to do it for years, but have never seemed to have the money. Furthermore since my divorce my ex cleaned me out obviously. Do you have any suggestions for me that could aide me in starting out in this venture? I live in Arizona, and would Love to do this as you do. I know I need to start off with lower valued properties and work my way up, and I do have the drive and wont to do it. However, where would I get the funds and, what type of market range do you recommend starting out in? I am not soliciting you for money by any means. I want to do this on my own, but I sure could use some advice from someone like you who has the skills, drive, and success behind them. I really want to leave a legacy to my children, as nothing was left for me. My father was like yours. Last year I was paralyzed in the hospital from a grand mahl seizure which broke my back in four places, he drove right past the hospital I was in and did not bother stopping to see how I was doing, I never heard from him either. In fact a week before he died, I drove 200 miles to see and tell him I Loved him one more time. His wife told me to come back the next day while I was standing outside in the rain at the front door. Do you believe it? They wouldn't even come to the door. I had to talk to them on the phone. I just went home after that. Obviously, I was left with nothing, He had an 800,000 life insurance policy, and land. At any rate, you are not alone in this with your father, but look at what has happened because of it. You have turned out to be a terrific person and successful, at least im my eyes, as well as many others I am sure. If you would please find the time to respond to my email with any suggestions, I would be Eternally grateful. Regards. Tim

Hey Jeff,
I loved the show. I wish you did this in Minnesota, I would love to work for you to learn the business. This looks like a great job though it's seems a bit stressful. Good luck I hope the show goes on next year with many more episodes. You should take the show on the road and do some flips in Minnesota.

dear jeff, ever since i first saw your show, other than noticing that this is truly what you should be doing, i also couldnt help but notice how gorgeous you are! i think you are beautiful and extremely sexy,. often times when you strike little poses without even realizing it you look like you should be on the cover of a magazine! and the way you work so hard definately adds to your appeal. anyway i just felt like i really wanted to tell you how sexy you are. continue doing well with all of your flips!

Jeff if you have an opening for a position I'm your woman. Never able to replace Jeni, she rocks, just maybe another side kick. I've loved watching your show! My family moved all the time because my parents did flips. I remember in one school year we moved three times. One house was just two blocks from the other. That was an easy move. My brother and sisters just packed our book bags and walked.
Great show are you going to have another season...PLEASE!

I wish people would understand that Jeff is a true genius and as such he has a very difficult time with people (everyone else) who does not have the laser focus that he possesses.

Consciously, the staff (including us; we are also "the staff") have a tough time with his no nonsense treatment of others but everyone is drawn to his light. People love to be in the company of a gifted one whom they instinctively know to possess the greates of life's joys: the manifestation of uninhibited creation.

Creation is Jeff's mission and his tantrums are all about being impeded on this effort. That is why the staff complains but are reluctant to part company with him.....

He is a luminary in his niche, an artist, a craftsman, an entrepreneur, a visionary, a risk taker, a larger than life rain maker and we all sense it.

I hope they bring back another season.
