Nothing Like Retail Therapy

August 30, 2006

When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping. Armed with my wallet, credit cards and fiance, I headed into the streets of Manhattan with one mission: SHOP ‘TIL I DROP!

This time round was not for the purposes of research, looking, touching and inspecting every floor from couture to Ts, but purely for the joy of purchasing! I sound a little over-enthused, but having retuned with an armful of shopping bags, I'm in the giddy haze us ladies and gents find ourselves in when we have careened and searched every corner of every store, and found EXACTLY what we've been looking for. Miraculous … NO. Knowing where to shop ...YES!

First I need to let you in on my key essentials -- the "stuff" (translate: crap) that I carry around wherever I go (translate: handbag).

One can never have too many shoes, I've found or too many hair elastics. Try to explain either to the significant male other in your life. Have at least 100's of hair elastics myself, and they come in very handy when the hair is a mess. For me, however, it's Burtbees hand moisturizer, an expensive for a drugstore variety. Great shoe photos and I just hit the Macy's shoe clearance myself and got some great Carlos Santana and Guess shoes. Can't yet afford the ones you bought I'm sure, but a wedding and an engagement party are indeed special occasions.

Hi Kara, I sort of gleened(sp?) from all of the notes to RED on the PR chalkboards, both in the workroom and the the apartment that RED was your guy. Have a great time at your engagement party! how about some pictures?

To the most talented designer to ever appear on Project Runway... Very soon I fully expect to see "Kara Janx" hanging on the CLOTHING RACKS at Bloomingdales and Barneys instead of the beautiful Kara Janx hanging out in person in the shoe department! You go girl!!!

I waited on you at Houston's! That made my entire summer... By the way, you may not know this, but you're huge in the college crowd. I attended a debate tournament at the University of Virginia named in your honor. (Just revealed something not quite cool about myself.)

Kara,
Loved reading your Blog!!! First I want to say that I agree with many on here, yoy can NEVER and I repete NEVER have too many hair elastice or shoes!!!! It's easy for me to justify especially when my husband has longer hair than I do and takes half my hair elastics for is ponytails. I use to buy him black ones and me multi colors so they match what I'm wearing but every now and then I'll catch him in hot pink or what ever color he just happens to grab. He doesn't care, he just grabs one. At 6'2, 230lbs, total biker guy with full arm tattoos and attitude to go with, just let any one question his manhood. LOL

As for shoes, I wish I could afford the designer styles that you mentioned and have the fun of shopping in NY, but unfortunately I don't/can't so I make the best of it browsing the racks in Payless, Wal-mart and anywhere else I may end up. With lots of patience and careful searching, you can find wonderful choices that look expenisve. I love strappy heals that look totally sexy and every now and then, I'll splurge for a pair for a pair of expensive heals from the Victoria Secret catalogue. Even then they aren't what most would consider expensive but at $50-100 to me they are VERY expensive, especially when my now yr old Jack Russell decides to make a chew toy out of them the day after they arrive. I got to wear them one time before he ate them. THank God the shoerepair guy could salvage them and turn a T-strap into just an an ankle strapy shoe. Anyway, thanks for sharing with us.

Dear Kara,
So happy for you that you seem to have found your soulmate.
I found mine 30 years ago and we are still together.
I really love the kimono dress but I am a extra large woman, a 14 to 16 size and I went on your web site and found only smaller sizes. Can you make a larger size and do you sell it. Im really not so huge that I wont look okay in the dress. what do you think?

Kara, I was dissapointed you didn't show up to the Q & A at the Columbus College of Art and Design - we waited for an hour wondering where you were - certainly, it would have been a treat to meet a tv personality and a great designer, but all was foiled. Hopefully, there were conflicting reasons good enough, but all in all, poor professionality, but I hope that you come back.

I was one of the co-chairs for the event that Kara appeared at in Columbus. She was very generous with both her time and talent, and we appreciated her participation very much! As far as the Columbus College of Art and Design comment, Kara was never confirmed to go there. We had asked weeks before and not gotten a firm answer. So we never made the commitment and Kara was never asked to go to CCAD. In light of the type of person she is, I'm sure she would've gladly obliged.

How can I find Kara's Bryant Park show??? I have missed it. LMK

A blog? Isn't this the girl that designed the 'highway divider' dress drawn from her open inspiration of New York City. Sad. I don't think most out there understand how she made it past week three. Now Bravo gives her a blog??? Well don't take it away from her now she'd likely have a nervous breakdown. Ride that Kimono Omarosa.

IF smith had seen Kara's show at Bryant Park as a decoy for the last show of last season, they wouldnt be saying these things(it might still be up at youtube or soemwhere else.) She blew everyone else out of the water (including the actual winner) and would of almost surely been declared the winner had she been in the final three. It's absoultely gorgeous and definetly demonstrates the real designer that she is.

You are the cunning designer I've seen on the show. You do not have any real ideas. You would just get ideas from the other designers, implement it and bck stab those designers on the runway. One example that you do not have ant real talent is when you told chloe has no talent and finally what happend...she won the challenge and you did not. I'm so glad you did not win.
