A Very Special Blossom

Season 3, people. Can you believe it’s finally here? And seriously, is this an action packed first episode or what? I honestly think the people at Bravo are trying to kill me. Some people would call this “episode 1,” or, if you’re a TV geek, you might call it “episode 301” but personally, I call this episode “A very special 'Blossom'” -- because I cry like a big dumb girl.

When I watch episodes of the show, I actually do watch them as a viewer so that when I blog I’ll talk about the episodes like it’s not me on that screen, but some other beautiful, sexy 28-year-old with a super hot body.

Kathy,
I am not a fan (yet) but I enjoyed your show tonite. It was the first time I saw your show. You are very funny and I loved the "real" side of you. I had an idea for you. You spoke of dating again but dating for photoshoot only. I thought it would be a trip if you had a date with a "real" guy (not a celebrity) and make everyone wonder who this "guy" is. Tease the public. An average Midwestern cool guy. Keeping everyone wondering ...the press could be great for you!! Just an idea. Good Luck with your show

Don't worry about crying over the EX it made you human.
Some people may need to see that side of you.
I love your comedy and I love that you are so real. Most woman would love to have a bestfriend like you.
The standing ovation at Carnegie Hall is truly deserved.
Have a great season. I am hoping to catch you at the Mountain Winery at the end of the month.

Kathy, I must say that you are the funniest woman I've ever seen! I got to see you in Toledo in April, and you were amazing! I am so happy that you got to play Carnegie Hall! Congradulations! See, you are moving up to the A-List! I am just sorry that Bravo did not film it for you, or pay for your billboard! Your comedy special Everyone Can Suck It was also hilarious! I am sorry about your father, he was a wonderful man. At least you can watch him on the show. I am also sorry about your divorce. But, now you are free to date again. I think that you should date David Duchovny, as he is the most gorgeous celeb. You never talk about him, or his new show on Showtime. Yea, he's married, but you'd get so many pictures! Love you!

Your genuine personality shines in your work on the show. I will definitely be watching throughout the season now that I am hooked! Congratulations on th Carnegie Hall sell out...loved seeing you in rollers out front. Hope to have an opportunity to see a live performance if you ever make it to Atlanta. Your southern gay boys love you bunches, too. Take Care!

I only get to watch your show occasionaly, but I wish I could catch it more often. You are a sexy, funny, and fun loving person. In fact it seems to me that you are able to have way more fun on the D-list than if you were on the A-list. As for dating someone in order to help get off the D-list... wouldn't it be weird to be with a person you have lampooned in your act?

Anyway.. best of luck with the show.

Best Wishes,

Now I have to take you to task: you weren't wearing a seatbelt in the Redken scenes! All those crazy drivers in LA, and you don't wear a seatbelt? At least wear it in the front seat!

I anxiously awaited for your new season and was not disappointed. I really enjoyed your stand up that was on prior to the first episode of the new season. I laughed so hard at your jokes about your mom and swearing. I know someone just like her who i s also a " good Catholic" and swears up a storm in regular conversation. AS a Catholic I totally agree about swearing and the drinking, don't forget.
I laughed so hard I cried. You rock!!

I really enjoy your show and think you are so funny since you say what I am thinking most of the time especially about the Bush Administration and celebrities.

My sympathy to you , your mom and siblings in regards to the death of your father. He will be missed on the show and it is great you have memories recorded of him. My mom passed in March of 2006 so I can relate. Your parents are hilarious!

Hey, Kathy, it's your favorite fan in St. Louis again! Is Tom really one of our MIssouri Home Boys from Fenton? (No, not the Missouri Home FOR Boys...totally different..maybe) If so I hope you don't have White Castles out there in CA because you will be unable to live under the same roof. Plus have him make you gooey butter cake, grilled pork steaks and toasted raviolli w/meat sauce. Mid America is fat? Who said? Just don't call him a Hoosier....some of us don't like it (it doesn't have anything to do with Indiana for St. Louisians). I've decided I'm not a Hoosier but I have Hoosier ways. I bet Tom does, too!

Love you! Can't wait to see Episide Two!!!!

Your show on the big TV screen is so much better than me sneaking peeks at my desk as, yes, a secretary. (BTW...your teeth are fab-u-louis!) Last year your humor and down to earth personality won me over....made me laugh during a very sad time. I hope that hearing our laughter and love going toward YOU envelopes you during your own loss. Divorce followed by the passing of your dear father is the hardest. Lots of us "out here" who adore you know exactly your pain. Not a day goes by that I don't miss my folks.

I've wooed one of my co-workers to watch your webisodes on Bravo TV. Oh yeah....I'll get 'em. Come to the light, girls...there is warmth and comedy in the light. Because if someone doesn't think Kathy is funny, well, I will need to reevaluate the relationship.

You are the best. I want to purchase any DVD you produce. You pull no punches...you talk to each of us like we are all good friends....like the relative you WANT to show up a the 4th of July picnic this year.

Luv da show. So, so sorry to hear about your Dad. Geez, it was Doug on "Work Out" and now your Dad. Is Bravo involved??? (I'm trying...)

I was so touched about your discussion of your divorce. It reminded me of things I've said about an ex-boyfriend who after nearly 7 years together decided he couldn't marry me but got hitched to so other girl at most a year later. I questioned so much, like you. I think it's better to accept that you misread the situation. Maybe he couldn't stand being a "kept" man? I guess mine got jealous of me and at some point decided to hate me enough to break it off while I was 3,000 miles away doing research on a PhD (so he wouldn't be technically cheating on me with some young chick who was then a 22 yr old bus driver with a 3 yr old kid; Nancy Grace actually profiled her because she's been missing since October; no, I don't feel sorry for her or her kids; the kids are likely better off).

I hope things work out for you. Try Birkhead; he might come into money! William is too much work.

Dear Kathy,

I am also a divorced woman who felt like I had failed when my marriage ended. I know exactly how you feel and almost cried tonight when you talked about your marriage ending. However, it could be worse. You could be broke and divorced. Now, that really sucks.

I've decided to cheer you up by showing you how much worse it could be. Anytime you feel really low, just read this and you will remember that being single is only a temporary problem.

After many years of horrific and horrifically funny bad dates, I became engaged. So now I have a fiancé, Mr. Annoying Man, whose superpower is to repeat the same story, usually a Seinfeld episode, until the listener thinks about sticking a rusty spike in their ear just to shut out the noise.

On a daily basis I have to deal with my dramatic, alcoholic mother. The woman actually answered the door with a bourbon ion her hand when I brought over the social worker who's inspecting me for an adoption. Then there is my coke addicted brother who travels north several times a year, dragging along my future ex-sister-in-law. Luckily, she has no almost personality, so I can pretty much ignore her. They just had their first child, but can't get married because her divorce isn't final. You can understand why I don't take pictures at family gatherings.

If you still need some convincing that it could be worse, let me tell you about all the debt I incurred when I lost my small media company after September 11 destroyed the economy and my business partner developed a brain tumor. Yep, I’m still paying it off. Anytime you want to make a tape of different voices, I can use it to pretend I am not here when the creditors call.

See, divorce, as bad as it is, ain't nothing unless you combine it with bankruptcy and a dating pool so small your cousins start to look like fair game.

Luckily, I am able to laugh off a lot of what life throws me. I know you can do the same; I have seen you do so.

I am very much looking forward to your dating tales. If I could keep the ladies at the bank laughing with my war stories, you should find enough material to last all season.

Take care and thanks, Booklady

I just watched the first episode of Life On The D List (season 3). I am a big Kathy Griffin fan, she's one of the first female stand ups that I ever liked, actually make that just plain stand up. Most of it makes me roll my eyes and think about all the times I've heard the same joke before. I just wanted to say that I think it showed a lot of guts to talk a bit about the divorce and even crying a little because it's very rare for "funny" people to show their true feelings. Hi Kath, just watched "everybody can suck it" and as usual it was great. It looks like you got your teeth whitened, Hmm? Regardless you looked great, my best friend and I are going to have a Kathy night and watch all your specials cuz I've got them saved on Tivo. I think they should hire you for the view although frankly I feel you are above it and might get stifled. They seem to want attention for the show but only on their terms. Otherwise there is no way they would be fine with letting Rosie leave and not fire Elizabeth. They really need to hire too people so my dream team would be you and Whoopie. Seriously Whoop could shut up Elizabeth with just a look! If you ever need someone to kiss your ass while you perform on one of Rosie's cruizes Count Me In!!! I would happily help you out for free. Good luck! I'm loving the new season of D-List.

I swear, I was waiting for you to pan to the camera, and give us all a "haha, screw you guys, gotcha!!" But when you didn't, I cried even more. To see you open up like that...very moving. I'm so sorry that Matt hurt you the way he did, and made you feel the way you feel. I don't wish evil on him- I know he will have his time to cry too...karma, she's a bitch!!! WE LOVE YOU, KATHY!!

First of all I want to say that I absolutely love the show. I have watched every season, plus all of your specials. I pretty much watch them whenever they are on; the jokes never get old. I also wanted to give my condolences on your father passing. I know that television can only give a glimpse of someone's personality, but he seemed to have good character.

In my opinion you are just as good as any of those "A-list" celebrities because you have made me laugh and entertained me more than they ever could. Well, the crotch shots of certain celebrities did bring a smirk to my face, but trust me your impersonation of them was so much better! Thanks again for your entertainment and the hundreds of laughs I am sure you have given me.

Even Chance and Pom Pom are celebrities in our house, I think my pit bull Charley has the hots for your Pom Pom, tell Chance to watch out!!! He better hold tight to his woman!
I'm so sorry to hear about your dad, what a wonderful man, just the few minutes I seen made me fall in love, they are so cute together!! You are so lucky to have such great parents, it must be ariot spending time with them, I'm glad you have all that footage of him, that's neat. My condolences to you and your mother.
Well on a brighter note, I'm looking forward to the upcoming episodes, CONGRATULATIONS & GOOD LUCK!!

So sorry to hear about your Father`s passing. He was such a cool old dude. I love that he and your Mom went to a Gay bar for happy hour because the wine was such a bargain. Thats my kind of old folks!!!

The Gay you picked to stay in the redecorated suite, sure was an asshole deluxe! You should try to pick someone like me from the north woods of Michigan`s Upper Peninsula. I`d be so thrilled & hyped by just meeting you they would have to pump me full of downers before I appeared on the show.

The Upper Peninsula is hard to find, and we are often thought to be part of Canada, or as one map I saw showed, as part of Wisconsin. Yech!!!

Gays from this backwoods are hard to find, because most are still hiding in the closet out of fear of being killed by the red-neck loggers and other unsavory types so common here. But not me, I`m sort of the unofficial Gay of Escanaba Michingan.

Its a strange place to live; for example. A Gay woman I knew who moved here from Detroit, was totally at sea. She couldn`t tell who was a Lesbian and who wasn`t. Like she said, in Detroit if you meet a woman wearing jeans, a flannel shirt, and work boots, she definitely Gay. But here in the Upper Peninsula she coould be Straight and the Mother of 5 kids. Ah yes, the Upper peninsula, where men are men, and women are women, and its damn hard to tell the difference, as everyone dresses in jeans, flannel shirts, and boots.

I`m so thrilled you are back for another season that I could just plotz. I watched last season all over just to get ready for the first show of season 3.

Bravo must really be cheap assholes to not even tape your Carnegie Hall performance. It must have been such a thrill to stand on the stage so many fabulous performers have trod before you.

I just want you to know I love you, love you, love you. You are the only person besides Bette Midler that I worshiop totaly unashamedly!!!!

Yes, you should date for fun & publicity, but not too soon make yourself vulnerable again & maybe never. We need those role models, after all, to show us that a woman can be quite happy on her own-- honestly, I have too many friends that hang on to horrible, abusive relationships, or attach themselves to absolute vampires just because they feel it's better than being alone. It's not. I'm so sad about your dad, but I appreciate how strong, weak, honest and open you are, and yes, we'd all love dinner with Joan & if we can't be there, we're glad to be able to watch you.

I Loved your show last night on the D list. Kathy, I have to say you have more balls than I do to get up on stage and say what you truly feel and won't hold back. My Congrats to you at Carnegie Hall, It was a shame that Bravo couldn't pay to film you there, it would have been the best I'm sure. You and your perants have a very special connection, I think it's great that you can talk about them the way you do. I Hope your father is doing better since the filming in January.

You are by far one of favorite comedians, I would love to see you in person on stage I'm sure I would not be able to stop laughting for hours. My wife can attest to that...

Have fun and don't let thoes assholes tell you what to do.

Thank again,

KG- Great season opener! Last summer I lost a good friend of mine and around the same time I started watching your show. It helped me get through a good portion of my depression. Laughing felt so good after a day of self-pity and tears. This year, the loss still seems so real but I'm dealing. I am, again, looking forward to you making me laugh like crazy.
And, on a different note, all I have to say is...Joan Rivers scares me.

Kathy - I just have to tell you that I am 100% in love with you, in a totally non-violent, non-stalker, completely "normal" kind of way. I've watched you for years. I always knew I liked you, but now it's more - - you handle yourself so well, you're so smart with how you approach things, your relationship with your parents is priceless (and yes, it's so wonderful that you have this footage of your father - how fantastic is that ?). Watching you on The View has been awesome, too. You get to show off how smart you really are - Elisabeth needs that! Thanks, for sharing yourself with us. We appreciate you!

Call me.

Just kidding. (or "just wishfully thinking")

Kathy, I just love you and your shows. You are definetely A list to me. I don't as a rule watch comedians, but I can't wait to watch you. I was watching your latest routine this morning and I laughed so hard when you relayed your conversation with your mother that I had to use my inhaler! That hasn't happened since I was a teen and watching Cosby. Thanks so much for being you and letting us all come along for the ride. I am so sorry about your father. Please give our respects to your mom, she is one of the coolest people!

Kathy- I have just started watching The D-List and I am hooked! I think you are hilarious-and you even make my husband laugh! I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. I lost mine 2 years ago-and it gets a little easier-but I still see at least one thing every day that reminds me he is not here anymore. I like Jessica, Tiffany and Tom. I like that Tomis your Dog sitter-and you care so much about your dogs-we have four! Can't wait till next Tuesday! Oh-and I don't blame you for being mad at Liza-I mean, like what else in the world does she have to do that she is "TOO BUSY" to come see you at Carnegie Hall? I love it all-keep it up!!!

OMG!!!!! Okay, heres the deal..... I have had the most SUCKY past 4 years due to an accident I had & ended up having 5 back surgeries now, and I am only 37. (Note that that I stated "only" 37!!! LOL!!!)
But, Kathy lets be reqal here for a min ok>? I have to tell you I was not a huge fan before and did not watch your show (actually shame on me, I did not even know you had a show?) Anyway, this season so far I have watched every episode and KATHY I have not laughed and had my spirits lifted in soooooo long that you truely changed me as a person whose been in a state of depression for 4 years to actually having humor and laughter in my life again after everything I have been through! It gave me a better high than the narcotics I have to take for the back pain! And it really does take a certain kind of comedy to get me to laugh (as I am pretty unenthused with so many comdedians out there.) So as a critic of comedy in general (because I think there are so many people out there trying to capture attn. & their jokes & punchlines are not the least entertaining?) I especially do not like the type of humor that similates back to the Billl Cosbys, Eddie Murphy, Jack Black, types..etc...
I find you hilarious, real, right to the point &funny as hell! I can only IMAGINE a day spent with you! I would enjoy that experience more than having an orgasm LOL! I want you to keep doing what you do because you really have it nailed! I am definately a fan for life! And come on BRAVO? What is up with being so damn cheap??? Pull out some of that stale cash & spend it where it should be spent. IE: Filming Carnigie Hall? Are your producers morans? That would have been THE ONE TIME to film Kathy!!! LOSERS!!!

Kathy keep the laughs coming & to the celebritys that can't handle it all in fun, BOO-HOO to you! I actually think it's hilarious!!!
P.S. Lets get some things going on Tom Cruise's "one point of view outlook on everything to do with children and physciatric medical care for children with ADD and/or ADHD!!!"
Maybe you could get him to come down from the throne he has put himself on & have him offer to babysit my 11 year old who has ADHD (without taking his medications of course!) for a week & then let him go on the TODAY show to tell me how he feels about me as a parent!!! FREAKIN PHYSCO KNOW IT ALL TOM!!!
(The rightious one who has doned himself to be above the rest of us people!)
What an A$$ HOLE!)
Thanks Kathy!!! Hope you read this posting!

I think Kathy Griffin is the bomb! I'm a single Mom who doesn't get out much and she is better than any entertainment I'd find out in the real world. Yesterday I watched 8 hours straight of Kathy cuz I just can't get enough of her. I would love to see her and Rosie O'Donnell do something together. Can you imagine the headlines??????????

Hello Kathy,

I agree with many of the other folks....you were great on last night's show. I have been waiting for it for a long time....months it seems. I am also a (straight) republican, but still love you with all the "shots" you take at everyone. So sorry to hear of you Father's passing and your divorce. Things happen for a reason, we just don't understand it at the time.

Regarding Carnegie Hall, congrats on that. I can't believe that Bravo did not record it for a special for you. Cheap SOB's. I have watched you from the beginning and have loved every minute. I just loved it when you said your decline to the D-list was after Celebrity Mole; I had forgotten you were on it.

Don't change a thing...love ya just like you are.

Kathy, I'm so sorry about your dad.

Your show is so funny, I wish I could have seen your live show when you were in FL. You may have "cried like a girl" but you look more fabulous than ever. (I did want to hug you though, in a totally "I'm a straight gal" kind of way).

My best wishes on Season 3--there's no way you're on the D-list! Ironically, I flipped over to an old episode of Fresh Prince after watching your show (taped it. Was out watching Johnny Depp. Sorry.). And--there you were! You were playing a reporter, and my hubby didn't recognize you at first, but there was no mistaking your voice ;)

Congratulations on Carnegie Hall!

I recently caught the ass end of season 2 and thought you were HISTERICAL!!! So you got me... I am now a loyal fan :) I watched last night's season opener & thought it was great (although I do have to get used to the new "characters"). Congratulations on Carnegie, as a woman, I am truly proud & as someone who loves to laugh, I am exstatic. I'll be in the crowd laughing my ass off when you come to Hollywood, FL in August. Until then, keep us laughing!!

The stand-up special was your best yet. I really feel like you've grown leaps and bounds in the past months, your struggle with divorce and losing your dad has seasoned you in a way that really shows in your work. Looking forward to this season greatly.

But seriously, the first entry in your blog reads very phoned in....I feel bad that you have to do all that you do, have to write a blog and pay for your own bloody billboards. I guess that's what happens when you hook up with the network that brought us the housewives in OC.

Kathy,

Your standup specials (I saw you live here in Buffalo in Feb) and show are hilarious!

I can totally relate to your feelings about Matt. I lost my boyfriend a few months ago in a similar situation... I thought we were totally in love but then found out about all this deception and now I feel like I never knew him at all. And just like you, not only have I lost my "best friend" but I felt like a failure.

Next time I'm feeling down about it, I'm gonna think about you and it'll cheer me up!

Keep up the great work!

Hey Kathy,
What a fantastic season opener! My parnter & I laughed all the way thru, you are a truly gifted person and superb entertainer.
My condolences on the loss of your dad, didn't know about it til I read your blog. He will be missed but know that he also brought laughter into our home. Hope your mom is coping well, she is a wonderful lady!
I actually started to tear up not at your "crying like a baby" scene, which was nice to see, but when you went to bed with the note from Liza with a Z. In the words of Bill Clinton, I felt your pain. I just wanted to reach out and comfort you, my sad little clown. If you ever want to vent just let me know, I'm a licensed mental health counselor and am at your service.
Please Please Please come to Rochester, NY next time you tour, we have a great gay community ready and willing to worship you as you deserve to be worshiped!
Now get out there and make em laugh!

You are the funniest woman on t.v. and stand up. LOVE you and the show. So sorry about your dad - he was a riot. I know you have lots of fond memories and that is so special. Hope your mom is doing well.

I have been watching you on The View. BW is not that respectful to you (can't stand her since she screwed over Rosie). I'm sure it must be difficult for you at times on The View because they don't really allow you to be you. I guess they are scared of unleasing another Rosie.

Sorry about your divorce - I cried with you like many. I do think Matt loved you but it had to be hard to live under your shadow. You are an amazing woman and very successful. That does not excuse what he did but still I think he loved you. What's not to love!

I watched Suck It today - so funny. I laughed out loud the entire time. So glad you are back on Bravo.

When I read today's blog, I was shocked and saddened to read that your Dad passed away. My best thoughts go to you and your family.
I just wanted to let you know that during the normally crappy 'summer season', I'm ever so glad to have you on TV.
