To create a dreamy living room and be judged on the overall design, execution, and whether or not you captured the essence of an Elle Décor cover on practically zero money? Ouch and double ouch.

Rising to a new level of resourcefulness, Andrea, Carisa, and Matt were a bit more stressed than usual this week.

The killer time-constraints only go to prove how amazing our three remaining designers are. It’s getting down to the nitty-gritty, and in case no one has noticed, a toll has been taken on our stalwart contestants. Poor Matt lost 17 pounds during the course of the competition; 17 pounds! Who knew stress diets were so effective?

Since you have now seen the show,as we have, Would you change your decision about Carissa. She beat Carl down about the brick design..hated it...Then when you tell her its the best part (or one of the best)parts of her room...SHE TOTALLY TOOK CREDIT FOR IT!!! Do you watch this when we do and say"I didnt know thats how the wall came about! That was Carl NOT Carissa" but then even if you do.....alas, what can be done at this point?I guess my main point is HOW did Carissa win on a design her capenter came up w/and executed over her venemous objections. Wish you could change your vote?

Hi Kelly,

I found Matt's room a big dud! Everything was so blah. It would never have been my choice for "best in show", let alone visit it... Maybe he should have shared his diet secrets with Carisa.

"Miss Carisa" has way too much attitude to match her excess poundage. However, I did like her room the most. It best embraced the inspirational cover. I just wonder how it was completed with all of her berating of Carl, the Carpenter. He could nail her hide to the proverbial wall. She should really show more appreciation toward this gifted man. HIS execution of the wall treatment impressed Monsieur Adler.

Conversely, Andrea seemed like the most even tempered designer of the bunch. She seemed to really enjoy what she was doing AND who she was working with. I loved her clever touches throughout the room (embroidered baseboards, doors made into beautiful windows). I just wish she could have carried her theme onto the furnishings (to overtake the continually complaining Carisa).

Obviously, you and your brethren LIKE Matt the best. Your preconceived idea of what you believed he would create, got him the win more than based on the actual end result. More's the pity... Since he is up against the most obnoxious individual left, it's okay by me that he grab his prize.

Amazing is definitely how we would describe these designers. Not only are they under a great deal of stress, they continually perform under tight time constraints. They all should be applauded for their efforts! We have truly enjoyed watching the show each week, and must confess we are rooting for Matt all the way! Despite any obstacles, he always comes through with a beautiful design. If we could afford him, we would absolutely hire him. We look forward to watching next week as Matt becomes TOP DESIGNER! Go Matt! Michele & Chad (NHS)

Choosing Andrea to go home left me feeling that the competition is already decided and leaves no anticipation for the finale. It IS too bad the judges don't see all that goes into these spaces and I also think the public should be able to vote like on American Idol!

Tina wrote:

In response to Colinette, I too had an AHA moment when the judges so highly praised Carissa on her wall, and wondered what they would say if they knew she argued with Carl through the whole process. At the same time we need to remember the idea
WAS originally hers, and what comes to fruition without a little debate on how to get there? Also, I think Carissa has grown the most as a designer. Even though she is accused of delivering "just another Carissa room," if you look at last week's room that was a departure from her norm, yet we still knew who did it. Also, each week she manages to design a room appropriate for the challenge, yet still her personality shows through. I'll take "just another Carissa room" anytime, and I think her opportunities are endless with her young and refreshing design point of view. All one needs is a niche market in any field and they can be successful.
It's a hard call but ain't it fun rooting for the underdog?

Kelly,
I absolutely love this show and I hope that more seasons are to come. The main attraction is of course the designers and what they will showcase each week; however, i have loved seeing what you choose to wear each episode. I have been inspired as much by your wardrobe as I have by the designers and their interesting work. Thanks!

Well, if Matt lost 17 pounds I feel for him...I too have been stressed out watching who will stay and who will go and the time constraints are being felt here all the way in Chicago! I was so nerous last night. I love this show and I love your style Kelly Wearstler!

It's so incredible to see that despite all the money spent on decor and design the basic secret is susing our imaginations. The program really demonstrates the talnets of the designers and their quick response to problems. Can't wait for the finale!

Go Carisa!! I loves her. Kelly, you also rock. I hope you are not jealous of Matt's love for Margaret, we all know you are the top pick for everyone.

After reading yours and Margarets Blogs Kelly...I see the patrons of the show mostly agree that Matt should be the winner and not Carisa of TOP DESIGN...Carisa's BAD ATTITUDE is the reason the viewers don't want her to win this thing..I concur....I wouldn't hire her after watching how she backstabs others and makes those disgusted faces. She needs to learn some people skills in her chosen field and she needs to get some CLASS..GO MATT..

I was going to ignore this blog, because I've given up on Kelly.

What brings me here is Tina's comments.
The wall: Carissa wanted to buy fake stone panels. Carl suggested the plaster.
"Carissa has grown" Put an orange construction sign on the wall of her room and you have the same basic color scheme and teeny bopper feel of her "college graduate" room. Yep, she's grown alright.

Each week she designes a room appropriate? Hardly. Lets think about her disaster of a chef's dining room shall we?

Accused? of delivering "just another Carisa room" ?? The proof is right there in full color baby.

jess wrote:

I think that Carissa did mention, in the white room, that the cracked paint effect had been Carl's idea. The initial fireplace and wall was her idea, as was the idea to keep it straight rather than at a 45 degree angle like Carl wanted. The other straight look she wanted apparently couldn't be done because Carl didn't have that kind of stone. Carissa put up the mirrors (which the judges also liked) despite the protests of Carl. Anyway, my point is that although they argued a lot, Carissa did get it done her way, that the wall wasn't all Carl. Carl did the heavy lifting, but then Matt's lovely floor was done by his carpenter, and no one is detracting from his work because of that.

David wrote:

Go Carisa! She totally deserved to be there over that dreadful Andrea! Of course, traditional, "luxury" Matt will win. :-(

Jaime Abad wrote:

Matt argued well why he should be in the final, but his last room was a bummer. Karisa, on the other hand, lacks edge and originality. And can someone give Matt a Ricola? His gurgly voice is gross.

Blondie wrote:

matt should win, he is wayyyy the toppest

Angie_Adair wrote:

Jaime Abad asked about Matt's voice. I don't think a Ricola would do the trick, Jaime. It sounds like Matt probably has acid reflux.
The acid can actually sear the vocal cords, leading to that sound you hear. Stress probably doesn't help matters.

hey kelly, just wanted to say happy passover...

so here's my two cents, I like matt but I think carisa is a great designer, attitude.. yes but still a great designer.. I hope she wins.....

A few comments so far on the show..
Why Why Why does a design show have an inferior backdrop in the white room? I love the backdrop with the lights, however, the fabric is buckleled and wrinkled at the joints. It appears to have been an oversight by the stage crew, but surely it was noticed during construction of the set. Why hasn't Margarette pointed this out yet???
Also, it doesn't feel like this type of show has trumped Design Star. Using warehouse space for these artists to create in? It would have been cool to see what these designers could come up with using real spaces.
As a desinger myself, I find it could have been such a better show if the judges could have addressed more the fact that taste and style is a matter of opinion.

Irena wrote:

Matt said he has a family. Why did you mention about his crush on Margaret? Just to make his wife "happy"?

Karen wrote:

The fact is these designers are spending the client's money on items/materials that the designers believe best represent the client's needs/taste. The two designers that I believe have achieved this are Matt and Andrea. Who would you trust with your dollar? Carissa has alot of growing up to do and it's sooo evident in her design, buying too many items, etc. P.S., too bad people skills are not taught in design school, well maybe at Otis Parsons, obviously, but it didn't count on this show.

By the way, Kelly, you're the cat's pajamas!!

Love you different hair styles.

juni wrote:

Carissa does come through with her own point of view each time and it is important to have a signature style, yet grow with it. Matt is someone you know will always be successful and I also see a signature style--the rich muted tones, carefully chosen clean-lined traditional pieces, and custom designed floors of unusually treated materials.

I just don't think Matt's room looked comfortable or inviting and I don't understand why he was not faulted for those inkblot paintings that jar the eye and give the room a hostile vibe.

Surprised wrote:

The only thing that brought Carissa to the final two is just good luck. No other skills have been involved, so far. She believes that clothes she is wearing are complimenting her figure. The same thing about her designs. She believes that her choices of the color, the layout, the furniture. the decorations are OK. But it's not. Her people skills are as exciting as her bad taste. I miss Goil and Andrea. Carissa, read it and roll your eyes. One time less, one time more...who cares?
