Bravotv.com: Hi Laura. It’s time for our weekly check-in. These will run weekly or so, and I’m sure you have a lot to say. But we’re all wondering about how you’re doing, first of all. Are you holding up well?
Oh yeah, I am. I mean look, the whole thing is much huger than I ever expected, but I’m holding up just fine and it’s all very exciting and it’s all very good. You know it’s a lot like having a baby -- when you’re in the middle of it, it’s really difficult, but once it’s all over, you think: “Wow that was great, I’m really glad I did that.” In the heat of things you go, can I just quit now? That’s been my analogy for the whole Project Runway experience.
Bravotv.com: That’s a good way to look at it. We’ll save all the really gripping and terrifying questions for after the finale. But for now, here are some things our readers have written in wanting to know. What kind of sewing machine are you using?
I’m using an old Viking sewing machine that I’ve had for many, many years, and Viking was recently kind enough to give me a new Viking machine.

What Laura would do in this situation: My boyfriend of five years is like, three days away from telling me that he's gay. I totally know that he has a crush on this boy who lives in our building. And they spend a lot of time smoking pot together. I guess I'm okay with the gay part, but do i break up with him before or after he tells me? Cuz there's a very very slim chance that I'm wrong.

I am so glad you made it to the final four. From the first show I have enjoyed your designs, personality and perseverance! I know it was very hard; I can't even imagine how hard it was to be away from your husband and kids, especially when you found out you were expecting again. I hope that, whatever happens in the finale, you will go on to design clothes or patterns, and do the things that you love! Good luck -

Hi Laura: I'm so excited to see your blog on the website. You remain my favorite and the sampling we saw of your collection when Tim visited is gorgeous! Tim's visit was hilarious especially his being introduced to "turtle poop". I'm sure that was a first for him. I'm so sad to see this season come to a close, but I hope it won't be the end of seeing/hearing about Laura. Hopefully we'll be able to get updates on everyone's progress by going to the website, so I hope the "finale" is not the last time we see you. I'm also a sewer having been introduced to clothes making when I was in grade school (a very long time ago). Watching Project Runway has inspired me to get back into making some of my clothes and even coming up with some of my own designs by combining different patterns...such as you spoke about in your comments. I read your comments with interest since my husband was born in Manhattan and spent the first 12 years of his life there. He knew his way from one end of the city to the other, rode the subway, and visited the museums when he was just a young grade schooler, but that was way back when the city was relatively safe. Well, from one redhead to another...the best of luck to you in the finale....I'll be rooting for you!

Hi, Laura---May I say that I admire you so very much; your class, your wry humor (which, I suspect many folks do not relate to) and your talent. Just love your taste and thank you for bringing back some glamor, which the younger crowd has no knowledge of; however, after seeing your creations, may be inspired to "up their taste level". The main reason I am watching PR (just discovered it this season) is watching you create. I, too, love the wonderful 20's & into the 30's look. I sincerely hope you win tomorrow night. If you ever need a helper (no compensation), I would only be too glad to work for you. I can't think of anything that would make me happier! Best of luck!!

Laura,
I'm from the N.O. area and was happy to hear you lived here. I understand that some people don't realize that we don't speak with a southern twang. Ha. They're always wrong about that! My husband is from the N.Y. area, and we have spent a lot of time there. LOVE New York!
I am very interested in your pattern ideas. I can sew and have been known to be a bit creative when I have to. :) I used to make all my kids Halloween costumes. I'm making one this year for my youngest, a 13 year old girl. I was thrilled when she asked - it's been a while - because it's a great learning opportunity. I will be letting her do a lot of the work.
I think it would be great to see patterns from you. Keep us informed.
I'm 44. I have 3 kids (the other 2 are boys), 4 dogs (I know you don't like them.Ha), 3 cats, a bird and a husband. Sorry, no turtles. Ha I stay home mostly. I grew up with 3 brothers. I admire your family life. I wish we had seen your daughter. I'm assuming she's your oldest. Was she shy of the cameras? Can't blame her!
I want to say that sometimes I think I'm the only person who saw that you really liked a lot of the people you worked with on PR. I thought you were quite sweet to Kayne. I don't think they really saw that. You are straight forward and honest. That unnerves people. I saw you differently, I think. I tend to be misunderstood myself. :) I always wish people wouldn't ask what I think, because I'm going to tell them. Ha.
Must say, I like Jeffrey, too. He's just young. You two rub each other the wrong way, that's all. Both strong personalities.
Good luck tonight. My kids and I look forward to watching. Can't believe I'm blogging a tv show! We are huge fans. Would love to hear from you.

Laura,
I'm amazed that few of the blog comments mentioned how challenging it would be for you due to your pregnancy.
Thank you for demonstrating honesty and integrity. Re the Jeffrey accusation, thank you for stating what you felt. Michael also felt that way, but he was unwilling to voice it to those in charge. It would have been nice if Jeffrey was allowed to replicate one of the better executed clothing apparel in question since he had little else to do except fit his models. That would have provided the litmus test: All would know if he had the level of skill that was demonstrated in his apparel. It would have closed the issue for good, instead of people being angry at you for your comments.
Thank you also for pointing out that Angela's mom took things personally. That was certainly the case, and although Jeffrey could have been more appropriate, Angela's mom certainly was inappropriate in her reactions.
I would love to see you as a regular on The View! ....Would you ever consider that?
Also, how can we find out about any clothing lines you are doing. As a 63 year old from south Louisiana, I would love to wear many of your outfits.
Thank you for everything!

Laura, I've been admiring you from the beginning of season three. I love your forthrightness and what I think maybe hasn't been commented on by the other designers, that beneath your honest advice runs a vein of warmth and true concern for others. When you commented on other designers' misguided garments, you never seemed to be laughing at the designers--you seemed truly worried for them. So thanks for being a good human being first and a great designer second. I love your designs--okay, so I can't see myself wearing a cocktail dress except to the annual Christmas party, but if you ever get around to designing a beautiful, comfortable (loved the jersey jetsetter dress!!) dress for the office, I'll be first in line.

Hey Laura-
I love your designs, and was always disappointed they were never the ones that got the in-depth critics. Especially in the beginning episodes where you'd come up with amazing solutions, and the judges would just say "you're in. you can leave the runway." How unsatisfying!
What was it like to see the final broadcasts that were edited so that your architect's (and I do think architects have their own communication style that does not necessarily translate to the general public) humor was so often misinterpreted as bitchiness? It was so hard watching so much time given to Kayne and Robert's offended reactions to comments that were clearly just fun razzing, if not outright fondness, and I think the editing choices exacerbated the situation.
And I LOVED seeing the big open spaces and the IKEA pieces in your home! Finally some reality on what having kids is like! I love that you've clearly furnished the house for the kids to be kids in.
Good luck with your new career, because you definitely are going to be launching your own line somehow, whether or not you take the win in Project Runway. I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Meanwhile Uli I think is just trying to stay "friends" and not look like the bad guy in all of this. I commend you for your work, and for your upfront disposition with the "Jeffrey" situation. He's extremely rude and always "blunt," so I guess when someone else is being blunt with him, he doesn't appreciate it! Touch luck Jeff!

I am an interior designer who totally relates to your experiences on the show. I am glad you spoke out about Jeffrey, what if it's proven he did employ others help? That wouldn't be fair to anyone. At least you confronted the problem, asked for it to be investigated rather than speak about it afterwards. Jeffrey does have the opportunity to address it publicly.
I learned how to sew and as an introverted child, created all sorts of clothes for dolls and then for myself. I use that knowledge in my design business, specifically with draperies and furniture construciton. Kudos to you for energizing people to do more of this!
I wish you well, believe you should win, and will seek your designs.
Best wishes,

It's finale night and only 15 minutes left. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Also, just got back from Paris and I thought of you and the Project Runway trip throughout my 5 day trip. In watching the many "installments" of P.Runway I've noticed the extraordinary elegence of the clothing that you yourself wore over the course of the show. I'm not so much referring to the evening gowns (althought they are exquisite): I am referring to the simple black dresses, long sleeve t-shirts, white blouses and black trousers, etc. They are definitely the type of clothing that I would purchase in a heart beat. If you ever decide to develop that type of line I'd be purchase items in a heart beat.
Your taste is impeccable; your workmanship is superb. This is definitely my type of clothing. Many kudos to you.

I'm not sure if I can watch this show again being so disappointed in the selection of Jeffry. I can't believe anyone would wear his designs ( I thought the shaggy hems went out in the 1980s), in addition to not believing bad manners and a mean attitude should be rewarded.

Your clothes had an elegance that the Hollywood and New York scenes are in search of, but the judges seemed to be blind-sighted by stupidity when they chose Jeffrey. There is not one thing he designed that I would buy for myself or anyone I know. On the other hand, your collection, I could see on myself and thousands of other women who long for beauty and elegance.

I guess the two regular judges seem to have forgot that. Plus I felt that Jeffrey should have been sent home for going over budget that much, then when the judges asked him how much he was over he said only a couple of hundred dollars instead of closer to three hundred dollars. Guess he had memory loss. You can still complete your dreams, don't let having kids stand in your way.I did and I regret it very day. I don't want that to happen to you. Question: I have been wondering how you ended up telling your husband you were pregnant being you weren't allowed phone calls and the cameras were always in your face. Laura you rock and your craftsmanship is better than the rest. We definitely though Jeffrey should've been last place and it was between the three of you; Michael, Ulie & Laura.
We don't want to watch the show after investing this much time into watch every episode and the STUPIDITY of the judges and their poor taste in clothing.

It was the worst looking and the judges have faiiled. We are so mad at the outcome which they got so wrong that we won't ever sit through another season and we watched every show without missing a single one.
What a let down. The worst collection wins.
We loved all of the other three collections and couldn't believe the ugliness of the winners choice. JEFFREY'S clothes looked like the crack hole with he crawled out of. He matches his ugliness in his clothes.
ULEE was robbed and so was Laura
We also loved Michaels and hated Jeffrey's
The judges suck and unless you also live in a crack hole or suck Michael Kohrs off you probaly liked Jeffrey's collection.
STUPID STUPID JUDGES are loosing the shows audience by their stupid choices.
STUPID STUPID PRODUCERS for letting the stupid Judges pick ugly.
What a waste of my time this show ended up being.
We'll go back to watching HERO or OPRAH it least its not a let down of stupidity!

Cher Madam Laura,
Thanks for transporting us all back to a time when elegance, craftsmanship and class was de rigeur. Your deceptively-simple way of dressing and even your hair reflected your design concepts beautifully and reminds me of the spectacular clothes worn by Patricia O'Neil in the movie THE FOUNTAINHEAD. You remind me of her feisty character in the film as well, which is a big compliment. If I had to pick just one dress from everything shown at Bryant Park, your black lace evening gown that had an ace-like point at the cleavage would be it.
Good for you for speaking your mind, being true to your vision and being pregnant the whole time. You are amazing. Forget ELLE magazine. You belong in TOWN AND COUNTRY. Please consider coming out to Beverly Hills to class up some of the dowdy, way-too-rich ladies who could use your guidance in every way.
Best of luck with what will surely be a great career in couture designing.

Your designs we would. And if you ever go with a line of maternity clothes you will definitely be a hit. Good luck and God bless.

I absolutely get your perspective and think how great it would be for women to remember that "fashion" is something that goes in and out of popularity, while style is in the the heart and closet of the women. It is timeless and makes the woman, not something that is simply "worn."
Please, please get the kind folks here to wrap up this list of supporters and keep us in the loop when you get off the ground and start selling your line. I can't wait to have one of your pieces in my closet! It is sure to be a great fit!

Although your evening wear is totally beautiful; I would love to see what you can do with some daytime looks. I am not one for jeans and at 46 gave grown tired of the matchy matchy track suits. Adding a bit of class and sparkle to some daytime outfits and office apparel would be amazing. Keep up the great work. And keep in mind that most of the designers cater to the younger set. Don't change your age direction! Maybe you and Uli could start a company. She has amazing resortwear. I would also love to see what you could do with a swimsuit. There is nothing out there that looks good on a 46 year old size ten. Bravo to you for showing at the tents. And don't let the nasty comments get to you. You did the right thing. I actually don't think a potential contestant with a running design house should be let in anyway. This is a contest for those trying to attain that level. Obviously a COLLECTION designed (and executed) by a woman with a vision of beauty.
How can the judges say Jeffrey's collection was cohesive when they agreed that at least two of the dresses were awful. (one was even called a "nightmare"). I thought it was a mish-mash of polka dots and stripes. There wasn't one outfit that I could see anyone other than a 20-something in. At a rock concert. My sister and I are still trying to figure out what the HECK Michael Kors was talking about. Just which outfit would anyone have worn to work? Or the movies? WEIRD.

Well Laura, I wanted to tell you that I realize the judges kept saying you didn't design young enough, but I disagree, classic looks great on all ages and I use Ralph Lauren and an example. Second I think the entire design industry is missing a huge customer by designing for the younger person and then again for maybe someone more matronly, what about the 25 - 45 age woman who wants to look wonderful at work, out in the evening or even at home, you could design for that customer easily and that customer wants to still look great but not be wearing pants with a 3" rise. Finally I think you should have kept that long green coat and dress in your collection I thought it was wonderful and daring!

Dear Laura,
Congratulations on your beautiful collection for OFW. Outstanding! Gorgeous! Elegant with a capital "E"! I thought you should have won the whole shebang. Your designs could be worn by a wide age range of women.
You were my favorite on PR3 from the first episode. In fact, you are my favorite of all three seasons of PR. I absolutely love your taste and am thoroughly impressed with your designs and skills. You were the only one of the four who had superlatives expressed during the final judging (like the comment that you made $8,000 look like $30,000). The only negative comment I heard from the some of the judges was that you didn't have
casual wear in the mix. IMO, your first design as nice mix of elegant and casual, but as the wonderful Tim Gunn says so often, "chacun a son gout."
I also want to add my opinion with others' here that in addition to your outstanding evening wear designs (don't EVER drop those!), I would like to see your expand your designs into affordable daywear. I can't tell you how much I would love to buy things that are age appropriate, elegant for every day and available in a larger range of sizes. Tim Gunn always made mention of your impeccable craftsmanship and construction and
finishing skills. Do you plan to write a book or CD of your sewing tips or will you be including tips on patterns you design for the public? Also, you were able to do your work so quickly...what is your secret? I am also curious as to which Viking sewing
machine model you received from Viking? Do you also use a serger, or does your new Viking do it all?
Rachel Ray may have cornered the market on 30-minute meals, but you sure could corner the market on sewing beautiful clothes in a minimum of time. I would LOVE to see you on a show of your own. You have a wonderful TV personality, and I think it would be a hit.
Congratulations to you, your husband, and kids on the new baby and I hope we hear a lot from you in the future!

I can't disagree with the final decision more! Your collection was hands down the most exquist. I have been in the hair and fashion industry for 24 years and am totally comfident that if you opened a boutique tomorrow with the collection you produced, that boutique would be empty in an hour. The jusdges accused you of not being broad enough, no surprises. I think you did the right thing by doing what you do best and perfecting it. I am confident you will show more diversity when not limited to 12 outfits in scope. Every outfit that came down the runway, immediately told a fantastic story. I couldn't help but imagine the fabulous events these women were headed to, like the Oscars, black tie balls and events of state. I am not dogging Jefferey, but if anyone had limited scope he did. His window of opportunity is very small and speaks the narrowist of audiences. Too bad for him, his fame will fizzle and be fleeting at best. You however, will become the name to wear. A right of passage across the broadest of age groups from the debutant coming out to the formal hostess. You will be a very busy, saught after designer. Than you for bringing sophistication and glamour back!
