I've been working on this advice column for the gays over at OUTzonetv.com. But sometimes I've been getting a lot of questions from straight people. So I answered a few choice numbers:
I bought the wedding dress of my dreams. I was dumped four months ago, but the wedding dress was already bought and paid for. To make matters worse, I'm 4'10, and a wedding dress size 16. So I have to keep it. What would you do?
Gail from Naperville, Illinois
Gail, if it were me, I would put it on a mannequin, and display it proudly in my living room. This would remind me every day how lucky I am that I didn’t make a mistake and marry that jerk.

I don't have any problems or concerns in my personal life to ask you about. I'm 45 years old and believe I can work it out through my own network of people. I wanted to submit this blog to express my most sincere appreciation for the outstanding work you did on Project Runway. I did not and still do not agree with the judges decisions. I haven't run into anyone who thought the outcome was fair. It was enough for me to stop viewing Project Runway in the future. The judges clearly chose the winner for ratings and reaction only. I'm thrilled to see your featured dress for the finale drew in the highest final bid. All is as it should be. Good luck with your clothing line...my friends and I are axiously awaiting your debut.

Hi Laura, I truly loved your designs and strongly feel that the winner should have been either you or Uli (it was very close in my book).
Jeffrey Sebelia truly appears to be talented and innovative, and I commend him tremendously for turning his life around, but just the fact that he could not procure the receipt for the garment that he happened to have outsourced, raises enough doubts in my mind. I cannot help but think that there was some funny business going on behind the scenes and it was apparent to most of us. It might be a TV/reality show; but from the postings that I've read, the vast majority happens to come across as a very intelligent and sophisticated audience.
Don't you think that the shows producers and judges are sending mixed messages, since a totally different and drastic action was taken for very similar circumstances when Keith Michael was found to have broken the rules of the show? Was it because it would have caused a lot of havoc at the eleventh hour from a production point of view? and/or due to legalistic concerns?
I have become mesmerized by PR and consider myself a loyal viewer; however, I cannot help think that Jeffrey Sebelia's choice as winner of PR3 was somehow jaded, and I really HATE DECEPTION. The only way to get back to BrAVO is by excercising my fingers on the remote control. Auf Wiedersehen to Bravo.
Laura, I wish you the best and many blessings on your new arrival. God bless and keep up the great work! Carry on....

To do art projects, design your own diamond jewelry and clothes, and look for turtle poop in high heels? While I appreciate that you were undoubtedly stylish when you were a broke single mom, you're married to a top architect and have household help. I've read interviews where, in response to a question about managing an addition to your large family, you talk about how you have worked out a system and you'll just add the new kid to your system, and that systems are important to have in place. I have my own system but I have to do my own cooking and cleaning. Why not be honest when dispensing advice that today you have some help some of us can't afford? You're honest about everything else.

I do not show support. From the beginning I knew who would win. I believe a designer no matter what the challenge can do a decent job of designing. Arrogance has no part in winning, one needs confidence.
If you had doubts in Jeffreys integrity you should have told him directly. In not doing so you created a conspiracy and made it easier for Jeffrey to win. He would have won anyways.
Jeffrey showed what the other 3 designers did not show. Michael did monkey see monkey do. He followed you after what you did and agreed with it. No guts to do it on his own. Uli was torn between 2 sides. She came close to winning, but no cigar. Michael and Laura had no chance to win. Predictable designs, well made but boring and not sexy. Michael with all the hype did not produce.
Jeffrey was right to not say much. He let his designs do the talking on the runway. He showed he could do it when he had Alison as a partner in the group event. They did well for only 2 people. Jeffrey may not look the part but he went thru a lot and came out on top. He was the Cinderella story.
Jeffrey won. HE WON, HE WON, HE WON.

His final runway show completely pales in comparison to yours. It looked like Jr. High design and execution compared to an experienced professional.
I agree with another viewer that I may not watch Project Runway ever again. You were clearly the most professional, it was about the clothes for you, you were not a drama monger which I also deeply appreciated. You were robbed from winning. I LOVE your sense of style, from the clothes you design (and your exquisite execution), and in your own personal appearance. I found myself looking to your daily in the work room outfits as inspiration in my own daily wardrobe - in addition to your clothing designs. You are a number 1 class act. Totally. Whew, Are you glad that you don't have to go before the judges any longer? The judging seemed inconsistent to me. A disigner was out in the recycle challenge because her dress made the model figure unflattering. Yet Jeff's zipper dress with all that fabric around the hips made his model bottom heavy.
Then the Everyday Woman Challenge, the judges went right for the thinnest of the models. the designers with the larger models didn't stand a chance of winning. Robert made what his plus size client wanted, she was pleased and it looked nice on her. He was out. And then there's Jeffery, he would have shown his collection over budget if he hadn't been caught on it. He knew he had to come in on budget. He broke the rules. When the judges knew someone really should be booted off, well then it was the old "thier collective work", so the person who failed the challenge that week stayed and somone who didn't got the "you're out".
This is the first season that I have watched PR and it was must see tv for me. I won't be watching next season. That's how upsetting I find the judging and Jeffery's questionable win.
I don't care to be jerked around like that again.

Jeff was more a designer than Uli, who is so limited in vision and capability. Hi Laura, FINALLY, a woman who understands the way to face the world! I have never been guilty of stepping outside the house, let alone going to the grocer's, without hair in place, makeup done, perfume on and jewelry and clothing put together, not just a haphazard mess thrown on without thought! That is the Southern way! I'm the same if I don't even go outside the house...I do this for me...I don't want to pass a window and get a ghastly shock at my reflection, ha.
I am still reeling from the results of Project Runway....all but one of your garments received applause, while most of the other designers' offerings did not (except Uli's bikini, as the pashmina was loosened to float away...) and yet they choose Jeffrey? My husband, who couldn't care less, was aghast! I'm still not comfortable in my mind that Jeffrey performed ethically, considering his previous behaviors, and felt his response to being accused said volumes, but that's all over now. I'm just looking forward to hearing more of you and what you are doing. I have done a lot of formal wear, for my daughters, and then more recently for myself (a gorgeous bronzey brown crepe back satin gown) as I had a dressmaking business with clients who were mainly women who were large or otherwise a challenge in some way. My favorite garment of all times might be the black satin gown (could be mistaken for a tent) with rhinestone accents for a very large woman, who had had nothing to wear other than polyester stretch garments that never quite covered her belly or if it was a dress, other things when she bent over. I had the extreme pleasure of seeing that person actually feel pretty at the function she wore her dress to. It was a challenge, but worth every minute of it.
Congratulations on all your hard, beautiful work...I hope to see much more of you!

Laura, your amazing and I loved your line that you showed in Fashion Week. My favorite shows was yours and Uli's. Micheal's line was quite over-the-top and Jeffery's line was nice, but it didn't exactly told a story and enough to win. I am happy that he won, but I would've pissed my pants from being exited if you'd win. I like your taste and sense of style; It's elegent and mature. Oh! I also wanted to say that I don't blame you for telling Tim Gunn that you felt that Jeffrey had outside help for his garment execution. You were right; He went over budget, had some garments pleaded, but failed to show recipts. Trust your intuition (L.O.L.) when you feel this way. I went Philly at Macy's Center City to get an autograph from the fashion editor of Elle magazine and to see a fashion show that was hosted by Project Runway. The show distibuted Macy's new winter garments like cocktail dresses, casual wear and coats blah, blah, blah. Elle magazine said that Tim was going to be there, but I guess failed to come. At the Macy's store, I saw all the finalists' winning garments and final looks of their Byant Park collections. They were on silver display mannequins, and some of them floor posing. The whole thing was beautiful; the little diplay looked so put-together and well presented that it looked like a museum exhibit. I also had a dream about you. I dreamt that I went int inside your house but it was smaller and was on the first floor of the building. Yor house had little amount of light and I only saw you and your husband. When I met you, you kissed me in the cheek and started talking to your husband about going to Paris and that's all that I remembered. Obviously, it was a silly dream. I am soon going to a summer program on fashion design at the Art Institute. I recieved a letter last week saying my interview on the13th. That letter has Nina Garcia's autograph which I'm going to show on my interview. Anyway, since I wrote a novel already, I want wrap this up by saying that I wish was old enough to move to New York and become your assistant because you not only inspire me, but MILLIONS of others across the country, and also wanted to say that even if you don't follow trends, it could be a good guideline on youthing your garments even their beautiful and well-constructed. Oh! Since you like fur, fur boots are trendy right now, and red lipstick is cute. Oh, yeah! This is my last statement or actually my question to you: What advice would give to a teenage straight boy as wardrobe styling in order to nice & classy but modern & youthful? I hope you answer my question, and good luck on your baby boy since your having him this month, and he's probably already born by the time you finish reading this. Sorry to keep long, bye! Even if you don't like a designer it doesn't really matter because there are millions who DO like them.
Laura, don't listen to these rude comments because YOU made it to Project Runway and became a finalist and not them. Don't give up[on your dream and passion. Much of luck.

Hi Laura. I'm a big fan.Watched it all. Seems to me that the show was not so much looking for the top designer as much as they were trying to fulfill the wishes of ELLE Mag. If Jeffrey's work represents top disign these days then about 89 percent of the world are left fashionless! Have you given birth yet? I hope that you are taking care of yourself properly. Even the sixth time can get tricky. Ever think of designing for preggies? They could use some style. Best wishes to you and family. Cordially, Lauren and Patti from Louisville.

Wow, really? You've seen better from Karan and Armani? Two established designers who have tons of people involved in the design and production of their clothes, as opposed to one woman who designed and sewed a line entirely by herself in two months working in an apartment with four young children and while pregnant?
Laura, I thought your collection was amazing and that you really deserved to win. You were, of course, fabulous on Project Runway also. Thank you for sharing your wit and humor, and for making such great clothes. Is there a line in the imminent future?

Most days I'm just tired out of my mind and feeling bloated. The clothes are starting not to fit and I don't know when I'm going to burst out of my shoes. Given your depth of experience in being pregnant, I would love any tips on clothing, exercise, shoes, and any other mantras you live by while pregnant. Also, here is one ready customer for your maternity line! I yelled out halleujah! in my office when I read about your desire to create one. Please, please do.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your comments about sweat pants and a mini-van. I used to dress just like you--tailored, put together, with a style distinctively unlike anyone else in my life. And then I had my second child, a beautiful girl with Down's Syndrome. I see now how I've let her issues lead me down the slippery slope. She deserves better than that and so do I. I'm starting to find my style again and it is amazing how my outlook has improved. I love your clothes because they are so me--hurry and get your line going because there are a lot of women like me who need your designs!!

I have a crucial event approaching that is in dire need of one of your most fabulous designs. My daughter is graduating high school and the ex is coming. This may sound silly but, after not seeing him in over three years, I want to look absolutely stunning and there is no better way to do that than in one of your dresses. It would be a kind of glamorous way of giving him the finger if you know what I mean! Of course, the ceremony will be in an outdoor football stadium but, knowing how clever you are I am sure you would think of something outrageously gorgeous.
I also want you to know that you are my new reality show hero. You showed America that after 40 is alive and well thank you very much and capable of being at the forefront of design and fashion. It was so nice to witness a woman such as yourself taking on the children. Bravo and cheers to you for a job well done.

When you first made that remark about a 'slippery slope to mini vans and sweats', I knew I was a fan.
All this other crap about Jeff, if just that...a bunch of crap. It's over and he won, good for him,.... It's not the end of the world....You have a great fan base, and this will lead to many other things.
I have 2 boys, that both have special needs..in that, one is ADHD with Autistic characteritics, and with a severe peanut allergy, and the other boy was recently diagnosed with Celiac disease, not to mention a husband with health problems. So you can imagine I'm tired out from stress, to the point I have let my hair go streaked with silver, and depend on sweats and tennis shoes...all along, hating myself for it, but no mini van yet. :o) Still, there's got to be an better way! If anything, Laura, you may not have won PR, but you have this venue now to see how you have positively affected women's lives. You have a great opportunity to not only have an advice column, but to write a book on style, or a general 'how to' deal with life issues book. It's not that people like me or other mom's, don't know how to deal...it's just nice to see how someone else does it with flair and success. keep on keeping on lady, & I will keep my eyes open for your book.

Hi, Laura!
Funny thing is I dreamed about your fashions last night.
I just wanted to say how much I love yours and Uli's designs. Maybe Jeffrey deserved to win - I'm not sure I agree with that decision but we are all entitled to our opinions. I feel he went from a goth misfit to a romantic, courture designer. Odd transformation.
I feel that Jeffrey designs for GIRLS. You and Uli design for WOMEN and there is a world of difference in the mindset and outlook. Girls are just starting to find themselves - women have a confidence and beauty from having lived interesting lives (mine is no exception...) and there is more depth and substance to them which shows in yours and Uli's designs. There is nothing wrong with Jeffrey's designs - but I feel that his designs may be more in tune with what's "in" at the time whereas you and Uli show a woman at their most feminine and/or glamorous. I would wear both of your fashions in a heartbeat. Your designs are classic and Uli's will become classics.
Just my 2 cents.
You and Uli are awesome.

People were constantly telling me how nice I looked--some payoff.
Your fashions were so beautiful and more importantly, wearable by most women of all ages and that is what appeals to someone who is 55 and is able to wear MATURE styles without feeling frumpy. And the fits were flattering. I hope you let us all know where your patterns will be available.

I am from Paris, France. I really loved your designs and I am sorry to say this but I think the only reason you didn't win is because you may have been a "threat" to many in the fashion industry. Your designs are very remeniscent of what Mlle Coco Chanel would have approved of. Elegant, subtle, classy without being flashy. But today everyone goes for "trendy" even if that means no sense of color coordination, and layering so many items they look like onions rather than people. I ADORED your clothes. I myself am in the entertainment industry here in Los Angeles, and I am desperate to know how I could come across some of your clothes. Do you design for any store? for yourself? Would love to know. Keep up the good work. Those of us out there who know what real fashion and exquisite style, is (and I should know my country invented it...) will always support you and cheer you on.
