What can I say? I meant it when I said, almost a year ago that I loved working at the Parker, and it was an experience I will never forget.
I do have a confession to make: I was aware of the fact that I am not a detail-oriented person years before I had even heard of the Parker, but I thought I'd give it a try. I did, and I can honestly say that I am still not a detail-oriented person. I am a "Big Picture" guy and the big picture here was...
For six months I was lucky enough to work at a job that I truly enjoyed. There was never a morning during my time at the Parker that I woke up and thought, "I hate this job!" I was always happy to put on my "Happy Chic" outfit and see what another day at the Parker would have in store for me. And, on top of that, all of my associates were a joy to work with, and I still consider them my friends (Higgins). I miss being a part of the Parker team.

The Parker management are over pefectionists and forget the meaning of customer service. From what is shown, management is just as un-prepared as the staff. There is no stepping up to the plate. No one piches in or offers help if there is a problem. And when a problem does occcur, such as that cancer benefit mangament bungled the situation, and looked even worse trying to make it better. What is perfect anyway. Who can be so perfect? It reminds me of the Grocho Marx joke. If a customer was a three minute egg in less time than three minutes, give them the chicken and let them figure it out for themselves. Trying to be "perfect" is why that things go wrong. Management needs to take look at themselves.

I hope you are doing well and I also want to commend Andrea on her integrity. I enjoyed the show, but would never stay at that half-assed hotel. Especially knowing that the people who make up the personality of the Parker are gone.

Hmm...I don't get the love fest for Michael. I agree he was genuine and kind-hearted; however, that job required detail. Details are the key to luxury, 5 star service-vs-mediocre service. It was brutal watching him fumble and fluster, all with a kind smile--would we feel so "upset" if he had been a jerk? He was in over his head and folks rushing in to bail him out was equally disconcerting. I wish him well--he's a soulmate; but, this was not a good job for Michael. I was surprised they held on to him as long as they did with all of that silliness.

The cameras were focused on the problems and unfortunately any success seemed dowmplayed. I have to say I'm glad they didn't show me! :) Being a new hire and having cameras come into the room during orientation was a bit much!

Hey there Michael,
Personally I really don't think you got a fair chance at succeeding. At least from my point of view, I never once saw any superior specifically address what you needed to do to be successful except... "You need to be more detail oriented," or "We need you to do better."
In my opinion, that's hardly helpful. AND... When the situation between you and the GM about how many people could be in the Gene Audrey room was in debate I felt as in every situation with GM's the HR Director was used as the intimidator to enforce some kind of submission from you.. like "How dare you speak to me like that, and here's my Director of HR who will make sure to scare you into being my puppet."
For a 5 Star property, there needs to be 5 star leadership and I truly didn't see any of that at the Parker. In fact, it was just like watching work. Ugh, who wants to watch work? Not me so much.
Also, saying that you need to be obsessive about something isn't enough to properly direct and successfully achieve the kind of conduct building that was obviously expected. It's imperative that an outline be introduced, extensive training, supervision, coaching, promoting self esteem, and most importantly not coercing people.
I think Michael could have done great if given the proper tools to do so, but as in every day work like it's so typical to see the HR people put on that intimidating glare and for managers to fail to properly communicate. Firing people doesn't equal training.
Good Luck Michael, I think you'll succeed no matter what.

Hotel staff consistently justified your mistakes by claiming "but he's got personality" as if personality is something that someone either has or does not, like arms and legs. In fact, everyone has personality and I found yours to be particularly grating. Bravo shows are usually so chock full of charismatic personalities, that by comparison, the staff of the Parker was anemic which may account for the some of the "personality" attention you received. But I honestly could not understand the half-hearted attempts to justify your employment by claiming you added some sort of special something to the mix. It appeared from the start that Micheal was being set up to fail so the show could have an ending with a staff employee being fired.

We felt that his warm and easy personality was the only thing that really sparkled at this supposedly glitzy hotel. I totally agree with Andrew Kelvin's post! I couldn't have said it better, even if I tried. When are management teams going to wake up and realize that they can’t hire and fire their way to a star employee? In a majority of cases, every candidate will have their strengths and struggles. If an employee is clearly committed to an organization, as Michael has shown in his passion for The Parker, they will grow to shine if they know that the organization is just as committed to them.
Rapid turnover is the silent killer of many a good company. It’s actually more cost-effective to hire someone with good raw material and provide the management needed to develop their talent than to keep going through different candidates until one “performs” in a way that fulfills some corporately preconceived ideal of a model employee. The many executives who think of employee training as human resource “hand -holding” would have us believe that star athletes (or star anythings) excel without some form of coaching. Thankfully, the rest of the world that exists outside of the corner-office box, knows better.
Furthermore, Michael, you rock! It’s easy for people to sound patronizing when trying to encourage someone who has endured a difficult experience, but believe it when it’s said that you have shown yourself to be an amazing worker, you did a wonderful job in spite of crazy circumstances, and the best is yet to come. Take heart and make time to engage in some good old soul searching. I’m looking forward to seeing more from you. ;)
Cheers!

Dude you rocked that place. So mabey you messed up, but who is perfect? You had a great outlook on things and I firmly believe they have thrown away one of the best things there. You stood up and held your head high. Don't let it bring you down. The blonde however, her attitude is really bad. I know a lot of people hate her because she fired you, doing her job, but it shows through what she is made of. I believe she liked it. It made her look big and why ealse wuld someone like that get camera time! Think of it that way. Well I hope he best for you and we really love you.

Just saw the video at your new job--congrats to all concerned. You look happy, productive and efficient, something we never really got to see on TV. You did make us smile, and it's good to know you're happy in your work now. God bless.

Michael, ur the reason why i started watching the show. It seemed you had business in mind but also fun was a factor that you wanted to apply as well. I'm sad to see you go but I enjoyed watching you!

I love you Michael. You are such a class act. You kept your head up and kept moving forward when all the top bozos at the Parker were trying to make an example of you.
The top brass wanted you to look like your standards were not good enough for their property. I ended up feeling like you were being set up by the managers to fail.
I hope you are appreciated where you work now and you are enjoying it.
