Challenge #8: Jet Setter

August 30, 2006

The designers were challenged today to create an outfit as if they were a "jet setter." The outfits were to be a reflection of their own personal styles. It was quite interesting for me to see what each designer came up with and to compare it (in my mind) to what I would have predicted them to design.

Michael's seersucker cargo pants and simple white shirt weren't surprising to me -- he always looks dapper, with a trendy edge. Laura created a matte jersey nude wrap dress with a waist details that could be tied in different ways to create different looks. Again, to me this was reflective of her style. As we know, the fascinating Laura Bennett has five kids -- so her dresses' ability to be tied in different ways certainly reflects her ability to juggle many things!

Hair today was a snap, as most of the female designers wanted to have a simple blowout. I can do those in my sleep, as any hairstylist should. I am proud to say that I gave Angela her first ever blowout. I sprayed her locks with TRESemme Instant Heat Tamer prior to using the blow dryer and finished off her sleek look with TRESemme No Frizz Shine Spray. It was a bit tricky, though, as she couldn't sit down while I did her hair! The garments are oftentimes barely finished and designers definitely don't want to rip anything before walking out for the judging. I've seen it happen too many times.

The excitement never ends on Project Runway....

I just wanted to say that I think this show is wonderful. I love most of the new designers this season. Micheal, Angela, Laura, Kaine, they are all so very talented. With talent and wanting to be the best, I think you should have some professionalism as well with it. I am sorry, but in the last 2 episodes, that Jefferey has been terrible to Angela and her mother and just a plain ass and has gotten away with it. I have children who can restrain from acting like babies and they are 7 and 14 years old. This is a 36 year old man who can not keep from throwing little fits on national TV, he might as well throw his little self on the floor and have a fit and get it over with. He thinks he is so beyond reproach, but I think he is the most weak minded, self centered individual to ever be on Project Runway. He may have some talent, but he will never go anywere with it because of his attitude and insecurities he portrays onto others. He is a very unlikeable person, I almost hate to watch the show because of him and his attitude and how he gets by with it. Someone on the show needs to corner him and call him on his demeanour towards others and put a stop to this behavior. I can stand a lot of things, but not a bully who thinks they are invincible. When he gloated on television last night over Angela getting kicked off, I could have came threw the TV and let him have it. He is a real jerk and I wanted to let everyone know how I felt about it. I can't wait for him to get kicked off so we can watch the other designers work there magic. This show is too classy for Jeffery, he obviously has no sense of class or style.

Just wanted to add that Angela's hair was stunning and it looked so nice straightened out. Good job on her hair. Loved it.

I totally agree with what Rebekah says about Jeffery.I have enjoyed every season thus far with all the different personalities and talent.I just can't get past the idea that a show like Project Runway allows someone like Jeffery to get away with the abuse he dealt to Angela and to then to her mom and then gloat about it afterwards in front of the camera. If he doesn't leave next I may have to quit watching.I am afraid I might destroy my expensive TV if I have to endure his abusive behaivor again.I didn't even like his winning outfit it was horrible.I think most of those watching agree Michael's outfit was far better and fit what the judges had in mind as a jet setter.

Honestly, I feel sorry for Jeffery. He is obviously terrified about losing and sees the success of others as a threat to himself, thus relishing in others losses is his way of covering what he knows he lacks - a broad-ranging talent for design. Micheal. Here is a young man who is not only a talented designer, broad based, diverse in thought and understanding of both men and women's fashion, but who is a gentleman, sensitive to those around him, happy for himself when he is recognized and happy for others whether he believes them to be the true winner or not. Laura - the representative of all of us older women who still want more out of life and who have the courage to continue and take the risks. Uli - fun, fun, fun - she has saved the reputation of the German people as being stonchy and stern. Kaine...get off the tacky! You are so talented, but are so afraid to let go of the "ta-da!" But...on the other hand...it's always fun to see what whacky things will be coming down the isle. Thanks to all who put so much into this show - it is fun to watch and talk with all my friends about. You produce a good product - keep it up!

Angela is antagonistic to Jeffrey too but why is nothing said about that? Also, why did she let her mother go over and harass him while he was working? I saw no other mother's do that and her mom was out of line.
Jeffrey is not such a bad guy. Truly, I would not wear anything of his as I am too conservative but would wear that before I wore something of Angela's.
