Challenge #11: Elle First Look

September 27, 2006

This was our last shoot before the finale taping during New York Fashion Week, which takes place in September. We're down to the "final four" which makes me quite sad (I tend to get attached). But, it does make for a quiet and calm salon...something that I never mind!

The "final four," designers were Michael, Laura, Uli, and Jeffrey. And, because it was the last shoot, they threw the designers for a loop and paired them with different models than they were used to working with. How nervewracking! And, to make it even more stressful, the designers were being judged for a spot on the Elle First Look Page. That is much needed publicity for a budding designer!

The Elle photographers were at the salon to take some still photos of the TRESemme team and me interacting with the models. It's hard to work with all of those cameras and extra people around BUT I love the drama!

As I said, the designers were paired with different models. For example, Uli was paired with Nazri. She wanted to make her hair, "even bigger!" I suggested a ton of thick, funky curls and Uli agreed. I quickly began to douse Nazri's hair with lots of TRESemme Instant Heat Tamer (she has so much hair) and then blew it dry. Her hair looked good but I needed a small curling iron to get the look that I was going for -- it had to be perfect!

Michael also requested "big" hair for his model Clarissa ... "as big as it can get," he said. This was a three person job so I put stylists Martin, Elsa and Jeannie on the case. They filled her hair with donuts. (Not the sweet, sugary kind -- donuts are pieces of foam that help to create volume in the hair, especially for people with fine hair.) They then used enough TRESemme Two Hair Spray for a small country!

After we finished the three models, we cleaned up for the last time in the salon. It was sad, but I had a plane to catch. Off to do more hair!!!

Can you give me some ideas on what to do with verry fine hair, and it is thinning out on top: to make it look thicker and fuller. Also can you hightlight this type of hair. Thank you for your time.

I wear sew-ins? That is my natural hair is cornrolled and hair sewn onto the braids. My question is the top of my hair is thinning but and I would like to know what I can use on it for daily maintinence since the rest of my hair is braided?

Hi

My girls (6 and 13) and I are HUGE fans. My 6 year old thinks a great design challenge would be to design an outfit for a child (model). Maybe you could consider it for next year. I know 2 volunteers.
