That's a Wrap

So, we’re at the end of the road here on Welcome to the Parker. The show represents the culmination of such a huge amount of work: it began with a preliminary research phase last Spring, where we first met the folks at the Parker and started talking to them about doing a show there; two months of prep, two months of shooting, and six months of editing -- there were a lot of long days and longer weeks. And you only have to look at the credit roll (look quickly -- it goes by really fast) to see the names of a lot of people who worked really hard to make the show happen.

After all that went into it, it’s very satisfying to get to share the show with viewers. And it’s been great to hear and read people’s perspectives on the show. When you live through something, and when you know every episode inside-out, it’s hard to see it in the way the audience will.

I loved this show! Why is there not going to be more episodes? The staff was so funny and i loved how they dealt with the demanding guests. I thought the show was wonderful and and a fresh approach to reality tv. I am sad to see it end.

I don't see a blog for Samir and the General Manager, so I'll post it here. I travel heavily in my business and thanks to the extreme generosity of the client(s) I stay at top notch hotels and resorts nearly 100 nights a year. I must admit though I haven't stayed at The Parker. I am however appalled at the unprofessionalism or lack of decorum demonstrated by many of the Parker staff. From high level administrative staff I have witnessed poor grammar skills, people who can't string a sentence together, tacky personal attire and personal demeanors befitting no one! There are fewer serious moments and sad moments than the firing of an employee like Michael Twomey. Yet when he was discharged the HR person had her body slumped over the front of a desk, with her head leaning on her hands as if she could barely hold herself up and muster the words "we're gonna have to let you go" (or words to that effect). How about a little decorum befitting the situation? Not only is this devastating for the employee, but the hotel has legal matters to think of at this time as well. I've seen countless times sales managers, directors, whoever, speak to a guest like they are somebody behind them in line at the grocery store. It takes just a bit of class to say "Is there anything else I can do for you today Mr. Smith" instead of "Do you want anything else? or "Do you need anything" like some perfunctory hand off instead of a true concern for the needs of the guest. Maybe I'm off target, may The Parker isn't about class, maybe it's about sex, but it holds itself out as a 5 Star hotel and after seeing the manner in which guests are addressed and treated. I'd never recommend it to my clients as a accomodation for me. Feel free to pass this on to Samir or Thomas. It's just my two cents worth, but I do hope they will take note.

Unlike Lisa S., your second blogger, I have little expertise regarding the hotel business. Nevertheless, I agree with her assessment of the Parker, and have no desire to stay there. "Hospitality" is the word of the day for any caring hotel, and perhaps its definition should grace the walls of all staff locations.
Aside from average treatment by most staffers, I don't get the decor. The outside looks like an unfinished construction site; the orange doors are so bright as to be jarring, not at all comforting; the lobbies and eateries looked ok, but not special; and the rooms seemed layed out and decorated like any nice holiday inn or any place of that ilk.
Sorry -- no matter how many stars the parker managed to get, I don't get it.

I loved this show so much and couldn't wait for each new episode to come on. Not only that, I have seen the other episodes several times.

Can't you continue???? I am sure there are many who would love this. And as for me, I will make it a point to visit the hotel - becasue through all its 5 Star Class, there are real people working there who try very hard to please.

Please do another season!

I completely agree with pooka and Lisa S. I worked in hospitality for 25 years, and I have never seen a management staff as incompetent as this one. They also lack the sense to hire people and then TRAIN, TRAIN, TRAIN. That business of holding up a piece of paper with the word "obesession" on it was so completely stupid.

Actually, that is what surprises me: that the managers would allow a TV film crew, and thus a nation, to see how badly they train and support their personnel, and how thoroughly incompetent they are at their own jobs.

That they actually are the people in charge of such a beautiful and prestigious hotel does not prove that they are doing anything right. It only proves that good, intelligent, management-level people are hard to find.

I sight as evidence the two beautiful, smiling bimbos who did the make-over on that poor, pathetic, needy young woman who actually fell all over herself when those two noticed her. While I admit that the gesture was (ultimately) a kind one, that does not negate the fact that the two are also vulgar, foul-mouthed air heads. How sad, and they are still working there.

Honestly, if this bunch of people could be put in charge of anything other than a lemon aid stand then the good news is that there is hope for every half-wit on the planet, and every monkey in the zoo!

I don't know why John stays on--he is the only one with class and intelligence on staff since Andrea had the good sense to flee.

I would just have to say that was one of the worst produced showes i have eperienced. Not even sure why you chose that hotel..was it becasuse of the Johnathon Adler conection to Brave? Eithe way it had totaly wacked out editing, no story line and no real reason for being on the air. More like a Youtube video than a professionaly produced product.

Honestly, I cannot believe the nerve of the guests asking/demanding certain things (like wanting a wedding in 4 hours; coming up with prizes). Even taking orders from a bratty little kid, who, wasn't happy with anything. I wouldn't give that kid the time of day. Some of the requests of the guests were off the top & THEY CATERED TO THEM! If it was me asking for the impossible, I would be laughed at.

I am so sad to "check out" of The Parker. I thought the show was funny, fresh, and entertaining. I do wish there to be another season. It had a special somthing that other reality shows just can't seem to nail.

I was just watching the show, when the GM fired Michael Twomey. I did like Michael but being a Catering Sales Manager myself for well over 15 years, watching him was painful. I want to know why they had hired someone for this position at this type of property without experience? Catering Sales is all about DETAILS.. For each client these events are EVERYTHING. This week alone, I myself missed (1) detail that the client had changed at the last minute. Luckily, my client understood and was fine, but I felt as if I was a "rookie" all over again. My clientele at this time is not the same caliber as the Parker. I did work for a Spa/Resort at one time, an miss the higher clientele. I love this show. It will be interesting to see who they bring in to replace Michael, hopefully it will be someone who knows what they are doing.

I am really hoping you do another season of Welcome to the Parker.
I looked forward to each show and found it very different from the other things there are to watch on TV.
You could definately continue on with people like Nathan in room service and maybe even find a way to show us more of not necessarily the beginning and the end of each guest's journey, but perhaps more behind the scenes footage showing exactly what all goes in o making that guest's stay memorable. We saw the guest being pleased, but not necessarily all that it took to please them. What about learning of special favors that needed to be called for to accomodate someone's wishes... things done to satisfy that go above and beyond the normal duties of those in the industry and any personal sacrifices that employees would make to get the job done.
I know people in the industry and situations like that exist and I find those details quite interesting.
If you aren't continuing the series, that's sad.. I feel a bit teased.. cheated.

I, too, have enjoyed this show. It is fun to see behind the scenes of a 5 star hotel. And I, for one, enjoy the easy-going atmosphere at the hotel. The employees I've seen on tv seem down to earth...not stiff or formal. Better to set the tone for relaxation at a resort. I do, though, have many reservations about the decor. Jonathan Adler, the interior designer, needs some help with design. There is not a single mood or theme but rather a bewildering and quite jarring collection of kitsch. Kitsch I expect at the corner diner not in a 5 star resort. The few great mid-century pieces are lost in this aberration of design.

You guys did an amazing job on "Welcome to the Parker". My partner and I have been luncheon guests at the Parker for more than a year now and know the staff fairly well. John greets us by name whenever he is at the desk and we believe the Parker is among friendliest and most genuine of all the hotels we have visited. It shocks me when I read how many think the entire show was staged with professional actors. I assure them these folks are real and the service is consistantly brilliant. I certainly hope you continue the story of the Parker. I can hardly wait to see who checks in next! Thanks for a brilliant show.

One thing I'd like to say about the show, which I enjoyed. It would be better if the show was based more on the staff and less on the people staying there. The last episode with the lady and her nutritionist was quite boring. The show is supposed to be about The Parker and it's staff keep it that way.No more guest stories it really makes the show drag sometimes.

Amber wrote:

I don't know how any one person can possibly be privy to all of the behind the scenes operations at each hotel. I'm sure there are better hotels than The Parker, but not for a minute do I believe they have no screw ups or imperfections. I really hope the Parker management makes an effort to alter some of the less desirable 'situations', but overall, they were a very delightful hotel that through the television I got to visit.

It is hard to believe I am defending it, because at first through the previews I thought it would be too raunchy. And it was. But the sweetness of the staff and stories dampens the effect of some of the more edgy happenings around the hotel, to me. I'm sure most people didn't even care about that. Like an above poster, I'd like a little less of the guest stories. The woman are her nutritionist were a bit much, and as sweet as they were, it was awkaward to watch the disjointed scavenger hunt between the two newlywed ladies. Disjointed is the best way to subsribe that.

I hope another season is imminent. Maybe Bravo will clue us in soon.

I feel it was a terrible decision on the person from the Parker Hotel to be filmed. Apparently, they never watched a reality show. I have never stayed at the Parker Hotel and after viewing this, I never will.

I enjoyed the show itself, but I'm sure there are many misgivings for sharing all the behind scenes regarding employees duties. In a way, I feel it was the Parker's responsibility to make sure their employees were well trained, and they failed to do that.

Make sure the dogs are always welcomed because if the rules were changed, I'm sure this hotel might go out of business.

I just love this show and all the characters and behind the scenes action. I am soooooooo bummed to hear it will not be returning for another season!!!
I really think the powers that be should re-think this one! This is a very unique and interesting show! It kept me looking forward to the next show and I had it set to tape on my DVR.

I kept wondering why it wasn't recording the episodes and when the next one would be so I finally looked it up online to my big disappointment to read that was it?!?
Come on now ......don't leave us hanging like this....!
