I’m trying to write this blog while watching "Late Night with Conan O’Brien," which is like trying to masturbate while your parents are in the other room talking about their “failure of a son.” (I have needs, people). On the show is Heidi Klum…who is in no way connected to that masturbating line… great, now I’ve associated those two thoughts, people will think it’s fact…brain stop making fingers type… her hair does look good though… digging self deeper in a hole…. OK, I’m officially fired from the show.
Also on the show: Justin Long. I went to college with Justin and no joke, I consider him the best actor I’ve seen perform live. If you want to laugh, watch him in my friend Will Carlough's Robin’s Big Date. Unlike my dancing video, it actually got into Sundance.
And Sonic Youth! Since I have long hair, I’m contractually bound to like this band and praise their brilliance as the godfathers of indie rock, but I honestly could name only one of their songs, though, oddly enough I know Thurston Moore by name.
Plus, the show played Jim Carroll’s “People Who Died” during a segment revolving around old people with bad dye jobs. Pure brilliance. There is MENSA -- or at least AP Calculus -- level of genius working over there.

I cannot BELIEVE that Alison has been booted. This was honestly one of the worst episodes I've ever seen of Project Runway. Uli should have been in the top 3, Jeffrey should have won, and Vincent should have been out (just check out the votes on the Bravotv website!) The judges had no idea what they were doing; and this season of my favorite show seems to be getting worse and worse.

I can't believe Alison was voted off. She makes such beautiful clothing and I think she's a wonderful designer. Vincent, on the otherhand, is a mad designer who thinks anything that pours out of his brain is creative, artistic, and fashionable. His dress reminded me of a project I did when I was five, I thought it was worse than Alison's dress. I know you can't change the outcome Mr. Rucker, but I just wanted to share my disappointment. I enjoyed your Sonic Youth reference that was earlier in blog, because I listened to "Teenage Riot" in my car driving home this afternoon. Awesome taste in music.

I do not get the process of elimination. Tonight Vincent should have been voted off of the show. I realize that the decisions are made with producers input and that on some level good TV is at the heart of it. However, at the end of tonight's program, for the first time I thought to myself, I am not going to tune in next week. It felt fake, and as a viewer I felt betrayed.

Niether one is cabable of sewing a dress someone could wear and yet the judges keep them on the show for the whole season.

What a shock indeed that Alison is out! I didn't think that she would win, but I thought for sure that Vincent would be out this time because his model couldn't even walk down the runway. However, once Alison's fat Minnie Mouse model walked down the runway and Michael Kors said the dress looked like a crumpled paper napkin, I should have known. Still, what a shock when Heidi called Alison's name and said you're out. I was a little surprised that it wasn't Kayne with his badly iced birthday cake dress who wasn't standing up there with Vincent because that dress was like something out of a nightmare. Kayne called it something out of a fairy tale, but more like something out of a horror story, the birthday cake that turned into a person and came to life. However, Kayne did say that his model looked like she had been rolling around in the trash dumpster. Yeah, and a very badly made birthday cake was in that dumpster and surrounded his model.

1. Allison absolutely did not deserve to be booted - she has made lovely clothes and I think her work to fold all that paper was more creative, attractive, (Tim and the other designers apparently agreed) and the labor involved showed, than Kayne's mess. AND, Vincent, he saw that as wearable art? And he is rude cutting off the judges when they are talking.
I so hope she reads all these so she knows how much she and her work were respected and appreciated.
2. That they should refer to a model as "zaftig". Maybe she is not a 0 or 2, but, she was not zaftig!
3. Your blogs are so smart and hilarious. I love the stream of conscious style. I really look forward to reading yours and Tim's. b) Conan O'Brien!! I heart that man and his fabulous hair. It's also pretty cool how he had both my man Tim Gunn and the Klum on, even if it was just a product of NBC-Bravo synergy.
c) This right here: "while one million hipsters and single men wailed". Hilarious. And true. Hilariously true.
d) After a truly horrific decision to oust Allison by the current PR judges, this blog (and Tim's) kept me from swearing off this show altogether. Though seriously, I'm getting thisclose to giving up. Week after week the show has left me completely confused about the judge's decision to cut the talented and keep the crazy. And it's not even enjoyable, I'd-tune-into-watch-that, Santino crazy, it's just BAD. Not entertaining, not justifiable, just...not.
So here's my suggestion: Fire the current judges, who are in dire need of laser eye surgery, and replace them with you and Tim Gunn. Tim can give us the fashion prowess, you can provide the humour and "everyman" perspective, and everybody wins- most notably the designer with the most actual TALENT! Shocking!

His creations have been, in a word, awful. But he stays on the program because his annoying personality makes for conflict, and thus more interesting t.v. If you are a fashion afficiando expecting a show judged on a designer's talent alone, you're watching the wrong contest. Read the very end of the final credits -- the judges consult with the producers before making their decisions.

Truer to the business where you pick your models they aren't assigned to you. Jeffrey was way out front for innovation and I can't stand to watch Vincent any more. It is clear he won't be in the top 3 (even if he doesn't get it) so why not keep the girl with potential. I wanted to see what she would come up with next. I dont' really care what Vincent creates (though I wish him all the best).

Lots of posts saying you got it wrong with Alison. Would ANYONE be posting if it had gone the other way for Vincent? I think not. Plot twist idea - bring her back on a future episode this season! Brilliant!

tiny tiny pleasure it is that MENSA (the brainiacs club) sounds the same as the spanish word for stupid girl - for all us kids that took art classes instead of AP courses - sweet justice, their club having such a laughable homonym. it has NOTHING to do with fashion - but it is nearly as tangential as the first 2 pages of your fantastically random blog. & WHY oh WHY does Vincent still exist in tvland? it is actually painful to watch the vileness of his "art." i know - i'm a snark.

So, let's see if I understand this: Kayne is kept on with a horrible entry because of his history of making good stuff. Alison is auf'd with a horrible entry because no judge remembered her history of making good stuff?? And Vincent is kept on with a horrible entry the model couldn't even walk in because...because...because...I guess you'll have to finish the sentence because I can't. I only wish Nina, MIchael, and Heidi could finish the sentence. I hope on the group show this time at the end, someone will ask them the Nancy Kerrigan question: "WHY? WHY? WHY? "

Here's an idea. Let viewers send in ideas for challenges, I'm sure they have some great ones. It could be done as a contest, and done for just one challenge during the season. The producers could select an idea and the winning viewer could be flown in and act as a guest judge.
Good P.R., Good T.V.!

If the producers and judges thought that they should keep Vincent over Alison based off their talents and their specific designs in this episode, I'm assuming they were also thinking that all of America would laugh at them and no longer take them seriously. I didn't realize this was a comedy show.
Oh, it isn't? Way to make the show a complete joke and a ridiculous sham!
I no longer care about the rest of the season, and will no longer watch. Sadly.
Looking forward to the next season, though.

In another blog someone thought Harry Winstons were guns and another poster thought they were cigarettes. Isn't he a jeweler? Saw zaftig on the cover of a book with some other definitions, HOW TO KVETCH WITH ANYONE by Wex and it was defined as curvaceous, voluptuous, so Tim wasn't calling the model plus sized when he said zaftig. However, still really sorry to see Alison go. Wish that Angela or even Laura had gone because as someone else pointed out, Laura made a peanut sack copy of the dress she was wearing this time (but with a joke on the back) and same old same old sort of thing from her every time. No imagination. Really liked the Jim Carroll song People Who Died and think of it every time I hear a more recent B*tth*le Surfer song with a spoken section and for the moment the song's name escapes me, so loved that reference.

Hi Rucker! First and foremost, I HEART you and your blog :-) And now for the venting...it's driving me LOONY the way everyone keeps saying that Vincent is being kept around for the sake of "drama" or "good TV"...NOW HEAR THIS: VINCENT IS NOT INTERESTING!!! I repeat, VINCENT is NOT INTERESTING. That is all.

I'm so disappointed that Allison is "off" and Vincent, who obviously HATES women, is still on the show. Looks like a good program and subcumbed to the evils of television and are going strictly for "ratings." Lost this past loyal viewer on this show, Good-by!

I hope you haven't missed "Silence!" the mini-musical based on SOTL. It contains classic songs such as "Are You About a Size 14?" and, of course "Put The F*n Lotion In The Basket." Not to mention unforgettable lyrics such as "This cop is already dead/you'll see/I'm wearing his face on my head/I'ts me!" . It's a must for any SOTL fan.

I thought that, with the passage of a week, I would adjust to the loss of Allison. I am sorry to say that my sense of fairness is too strong to be quashed. The judges got it very wrong when they eliminated Allison, who has proved herself to be a gifted designer, and kept Vincent, whose unwarranted self-confidence is painful to watch. I wish you could devise a way to bring her back. Additionally, Jeffrey should have won to challenge.

I love the sly allusions tucked like rose petals into your prose.
I also loved the fear you had in a big tin building ... been there, done that ... and nothing is as loud as a big tin building in a rainstorm.
My particular btb was a giant horse barn during a show. No one could hear--not the judges, not the exhibitors, not the animals. Deafening. Like an AC DC concert, but without the clever lines -- I mean, who doesn't love a rock song that makes the statement: "Forget about the check, we'll get hell to pay."
Thanks for a witty behind-the-scenes rant. Rock on, oops, "Carry on!" and tell us more about the MOMS!!

Okay, so I came to this party really late, but I just have to post this somewhere, and this seems like the best blog for it: Does Heidi have a crush on Vincent or something? This was the saddest example of her saving him, Allison so didn't deserve to go. Vincent never made a single appealing piece, let alone outfit, yet every time the other judges seemed to hate his work the most, Heidi jumped in and complimented him effusively. What gives?
