Ramblings of a Runway Producer: The Hunter Becomes the Hunted

Unfortch, I wasn’t traveling down the Seine eating fine cheese, sipping on even finer wines and tripping the light fantastic with Parisian models this week. (That’s what I do with my time off. Insert “rim shot” here.) So, I decided to scour the past eight blogs and partake in a game of “tit for tat” with those who have generously taken time to comment on my ramblings.

Buckle up. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Yeah.. it's official.. I'm completely hooked on this blog. Love the writing & love the pictures. Thanks for helping pass the time of my mundane workday... I guess I should've have been a producer instead of working at a cancer hospital :( oh well.

Melissa, what? You are ridiculous. Are you being serious? You work at cancer hospital and I work in television. There is no comparison as to what produces more social good. It’s like Picasso saying: “Maybe I should stop painting this whole ‘blue period’ thing and become a marble counter.” I truly praise you.

You are like the hot, smart, funny guy with long hair in high school that every gay man was secretly in love with.

Do you play an instrument? I bet you did.

Hey, so that's why you keep your hair over your ears? Once upon a time I kept my pointy ears covered because I am old enough actually to have been called Mr. Spock in elementary school, and I'm female and I got tired of hearing variations on the landing party beamed up with me Mr. Spock. Although I'm average height, I also got tired of hearing myself called an elf. It was suggested that I, "the elf", hand out the Christmas presents in school when I was in third grade as it would be fitting. I got really tired of being asked at the mall into my late teens which way to Santa as I was mistaken for one of Santa's elves even when wearing jeans and a t-shirt. For years I covered up my somewhat pointy ear tips, but finally I adjusted and now I don't care. Hey, you belong with the magical elves with those pointy ears! Don't be afraid to show your ears.

Wow. If it means anything, I actually appreciate the "Everyday Woman" challenge. How did you decide which family member to ask to join? Mom or sister? I thought it was a great thing, to give the contestants a bit of their family. Kind of like a picker-upper thing.

I have yet to figure out where the heck you people come up with 7 pages of rambling, though. Its a consistent 7 pages, too. Geesh. You're gonna kill me (pick your poison). But I have to admit, this entry was good, I think more as a confirmation that you do care (even in the smallest respect) of your fans (or stalkers) to actually read their input and respond to it. If I knew French, I'd speak lovely words in your...comments, but alas, I don't.
Oh, and just for kicks...
Farmer Ted reminds me of Sixteen Candles...

Why do you have to be such a girl?

So yeah, I feel akward now so I'll leave it at that.

In all seriousness, thanks for your weekly ramblings. They're truly fabulous.

Besides, there's no one here to have a harmless school girl crush on.. just a bunch of old doctors who like looking down the girls' shirts. Good grief....

Don't feel so bad about your impending 29th. I just turned 27 last month & one of my coworkers gave me a card in which he'd written "Welcome to your late 20s". Geez.. kick her while she's down, eh? But, my brother just turned 30 & he had a meltdown so just think.. you've got over a YEAR to prepare for that! Chin up, love. You still look delicious.

Thanks again for your never disappointing blogs. I look forward to Thursday mornings as much as I look forward to 10pm on Wednesdays. I still think you should write a book. You're right on par with David Sedaris & I wouldn't say that often.
Have a lovely day (the sun is finally shining here in NY!)

If you thought that getting the moms and sisters' honest opinions of their outfits was so important for the "Everyday Woman" challenge, why did the judges choose to eliminate Robert, whose client (Vincent's sister) made it plain that she loved her outfit, HMMMM?

As I recall, Angela's mom clearly hated the dress/tent/thingy people use to cover their junk cars that Jeffrey made. Yet Jeffrey stayed in!

If the judges are going to choose to ignore the client's opinion of the outfit, you should have just let each designer make an outfit for their mom or sister. The designers would know exactly what to make for their respective family members, thereby raising the calibre and quality of the finished garments-- and making the competition more complex for the designers AND the judges.

Jen,
Here are the directions you desire:
1.Go to Top Video (lower right hand corner) on bravotv.com/project_runway.
The video that will launch is the Exit Interview videos.
B. Above the group of "Exit Interviews" is the following "Project Runway>Season 3>Exit Interviews". Click on the "Season 3" part.
C. Click on the "Bonus Footage" section.
4. Tiptoe through the Tulips of wonderous "Extras". My blog videos lie there.

Yes, this is blatant self-promotion and yes, I have the needed PhD to allow me to find this material, but this weeks video is important to me. It reminds me of how innocent one can be before turning into the bitter, bitter man I am now.

ps. and to "fleur": Pretty In Pink? I didn't say "His name is Blane? that's a major appliance, that's not a name". Plus, Some Kind of Wonderful beats Pretty in Pink most days of the week. "All I care about is me, my drums and you." John Hughes=God

Vincent, Kayne and Jeffrey embodied "The Ugly American" as they walked to the french market. A frumpy middle-aged man in a sleeveless T? A guy in orange shorts and a T-shirt that says "I'm excited to be here"? And a guy with tats on his neck and an attitude on his face? Yikes.

Too bad PR didn't send our boy Rucker, pink boat shoes and all, to class up the group and give the ladies at the market somebody more interesting to talk to than Vincent.

I SO wish you had gone to Paris!

Love the "Sixteen Candles" reference, and also the other 80's movies stuff. The quote above from "Pretty in Pink" is one of the few bright points of the film - Duckie should have gotten the girl, not the rich dude. But I digress....

While I'm not proposing marriage (have one already, after all), I do admit to having a little warm spot in my heart for MR. Very few blogs have the wit, energy, and juicy detail that I've found here. I still have to read Tim's first, but then I hit yours next and feel fully satisfied that I've gotten the whole PR3: Another Slice of Pie experience. If you're ever in the neighborhood, drop by for some hotdish and jello.

Someone needs to talk to the judges. They are getting tiresome, predictable and no vision. Any one who thinks Jeffery's outfits are better than the others except for Vincent has lost it.
I about laughed my self to death at JefferyⳠso called gown this week.
It looked like Project Runway was being held in Dog patch USA. And Jeffery's model was Mammy Yokem. That dress would be a perfect ball gown for Mammy to wear to the Sadie Hawkins Day Dance. It was that hokey and ugly for him to win was an insult to the others.
VincentⳠcheated with the glue and should have been sent home case closed.
The rest are excellent. You cannot keep Jeffery around for laughs anymore. To do so would put a good designer at risk for going home when they should not.
Fun time is over it is time for Jeffery to go.
All the dresses looked good in Paris because that judge was looking at them with a fresh eye not a biased eye of the ones back home. They need to be shoved into a fresh new view point each week.
Please pass this on to the judges and producers of Project Runway.
Thank You Connie B

Hey there. First and foremost, I think your hair is fabulous, washed or unwashed. Whic is something, since I have a standing rule about men and hair-lenght. Congratulations, you're the first longer-ish-haired man to get my stamp of approval. (My ex is so upset.)

I have to say I love your writing. Aside from the unique behind-the-scenes informative flair it has (who wouldn't want more insight into PR? I mean, honestly), your style, tone, humor and allusion all make it a refreshing, entertaining read.

Alright, enough of the blowing smoke up your... uh... ego. I'm curious to know, is there a question you'd LIKE us commenters/faithful readers to ask that has yet to be voiced?

Thanks again for the good reading.

I have a serious question - do the dresses look much different in person than on TV? If not, then I think the judges need a time-out cause they're insane. From the vantage point of my TV, I must say I am thoroughly perplexed that a) crotch bling attached to sterility inducing tight pants, and b) hoedown yellow plaid fabric-gone-wild with a lovely direct view of the crotch region, are considered worthy of a win. Bizarre. "Different" does not necessarily equal good...(and definitely does not equal pleasant-to-look-at)

Love your blog, by the way!

The amount of women who post on here complimenting your wit, giggling over your pop culture references, and inquiring about your relationship status is threatening to become more comic than the blog.

Better start dumbing down, talking about football, and getting rid of the pink shirts, or some of us are going to start reading just for the comments.

Oh, and thanks for the response. Since the Dashboard Confessional reference was great, I'll give you a grace period before I start really tearing into this new pic. You know I loves the blog, but with all this "you're my soulmate" and "marry me" action, I think you need someone to temper the adoration with personal criticism.

It seems to me that the overall producing/editing for this season has been a bit different from the first two seasons. Is there a conscious effort this season to focus even more on the interpersonal drama than the fashion?

I appreciate the most recent episode (Paris couture) because it seemed to be a better balance. Will we - hopefully, for my part - see a return to the focus on the creative process (intrapersonal drama is okay - I appreciate a glimpse into the artists' inner struggles) and resultant products? I welcome a return to the focus on fashion.

And please give a great kudos to the team for the footage of Paris which has enleashed in me an insane desire to go...
Big questions, now:
Will there be a PR 4??? (I'm thinking viewer suggestions for challenges could be a riot)
What will you be doing when this season wraps?
Wanna do a radio interview with me? Sure you do... dontcha?

RE: Dogs as "accessories"

Hey, Rucker:

I read an email from Vanessa Brown - the owner of one of the dogs, "Tallulah" (Katy's model).

She complained that Michael Knight poked his dog with 6 long sharp needles. The owner was very upset and complained to your staff, but, apparently, nothing was done about it.

How do you respond to the charges that a dog was abused during this challenge?

I hope the next time you use living creatures as "accessories" that you exercise some sensitivity and care in the handling of these animals.
