The Tim visits are always a treat to work on (I sound 70), mainly because you get to enter each designer’s reality and not the one that was created for them with a five-block radius between Parsons and Atlas. Heading out to see the designers and their collections in the ATL, the Big Apple, location set for Miami Vice, and City of Lost Souls, I felt like a kid who was getting a sneak peak at his Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa presents early. (Don’t want to show favoritism.) Plus, stockpiling air miles and a per diem means my dream of disappearing like Keyser Soze is that much closer to becoming a reality. (“And poof, he’s gone.”)
However, when traveling with Tim Gunn there are few things one should know:
- The man consistently wants to help carry 80-pound production cases while wearing fully pressed suit and shinned dress shoes despite being, what we refer to as, “talent.” (I carry your bags, Tim. That’s what I get paid to do.)
- He’s an efficient packer and his one small bag makes your bag look like it was packed in the dark by a group of kindergarteners.
- The cloak of 4:30 am travel is not enough to hide the fact that Tim is still “Tim Gunn” or “that guy from Project Runway” and people WILL recognize him.
- Before even getting to the metal detectors, Tim will be stopped no less than six times by young girls with camera phones, once by a 40-year-old man with a cellphone clipped to his belt asking for an autograph for his wife “who is a really big fan of the show” (suck it up, dude, you like it too) and twice by busty redheads who want their cleavage signed. This process takes 45 minutes.
- Tim will complain about BEING in first class away from “the crew” (producer/cameraman/sound operator), which is asinine, because given the choice, I would enjoy every minute of extra legroom or opportunity to not sit next to someone blasting Enya from their headphones. (Really? Enya!?!).

Thanks for the great summary of Episode 13, Behind the Scenes. Wtf is going on with Jeffrey? I couldn't believe that Laura went that low! One of the things that I noticed about jeffrey is that he was the most focused and professional of the designers. His garments were always completed with plenty of time. I have no doubt that he could provide the quality completion which the other designers were griping about. He survived all the drama of Angela and Darlene just to have this crap thrown on him. Shame on Laura, whether she's correct or not, for going behind Jeffrey to Tim. I have understood all of her other little moody maneuvers cuz of the hormones, but this is unforgivable! Please don't take Jeffrey auf! His collection looks gorgeous!

I was not surprised about the accusations made concerning Jeffrey's work. Unfortunately, his reaction tends to lend credence to those accusations. I would hate to think that after Keith's untimely departure another contestant would break the rules. At least, I hope not. I was quite distressed by the way Jeffrey treated Angela's mother. He seems to have an ego the size of California. All four designers are talented and certainly deserve to win this competition. I do, however, believe that Laura's designs would have better market appeal.

Hi,
I have been a dedicated Project Runway viewer since Season 1. I feel that the quality of the program has significantly declined since then. I know it's important to create and foster drama, but more and more, it's feeling like a cheap FOX reality show.
Bringing back Vincent and Angela and forcing designers to use all their scraps, are good examples of production moves that take away from the core of the show: a quality competition of creative design skills, innovative thinking and execution.
Also, spreading the season out so thin, way past NY fashion week, was also a buzz-kill move. For those of us who are really into the core fashion aspect of the show, we have already looked at all of the collections online. You might want to consider screening the finale soon after Olympus Fashion week.
I really enjoyed watching the process of designers sewing their outfits, seeing them change and comment on each other's creative decisions. In season 1 and 2, the charismatic personalities of certain designers really shined through and added a lot of complexity to their characters.
However, I will say that I've enjoyed many of the challenges for this season: making an outfit for a fashion icon, the dog challenge, and the couture challenge. It's nice when the designers have ample time to create something truly great. I don't really like seeing a bunch of mediocre clothes they only had a day to make.
I would like to see more challenges involving celebrities from the music industry, political arena, modeling industry, theater and hollywood. Guest judges are one of the most exciting aspects of the show, and it would be nice to see a more visual 1-minute profile/bio of them when they are introduced.
But of course, I continue to watch the show like the dedicated follower I am. It's an amazing concept and I think the producers have a great sense of humor, suspense and character development. But these days, I'm just not as eager to come home and watch it as I used to be.

Listen, Jeffrey has been a royal asshole the whole show. These people have invested a lot of time and energy. Not just Laura, but Uli AND Michael ALSO thought something was fishy. And when confronted, Jeffrey admitted that he DID send some work out for pleating. There are rules and I think it's fair game to raise the issue. She told him straightaway she was doing it.
The man has not been considerate or above board and was a scumbag to Angela's mom. He admitted doing lots of drugs. I don't think it's a big stretch to think that he hired work out. If that's against the rules of the competition, then he has to pay the price. The color of Laura's hair or her pregnancy have nothing to do with this.

Frankly, whether Laura is right or wrong about it, NEVER in any of the previous seasons have any of the finalists gotten back to NY before OFW completely finished. Everyone always had buttons, seam-finishing, hems, trims, SOMETHING. It's a matter of opinion whether his "line was way better style-wise", my opinion is that his line sucked big-time. All season long, his finishing was terrible, and I find it highly suspicious that, in the "Jet Setter" challenge, he didn't know how to set a zipper fly, but suddenly he's got perfectly finished leather jeans for OFW. It wouldn't surprise me a bit, having seen that big operation of his in LA, if it turns out that he did indeed hire some help. Probably illegals -- all cash, no receipts, no taxes.

But when Tim was visiting all the designers, he had the most work done out of anyone and has mentioned, more than once, how he hasn't taken a break in the two months at all. And so what if he already has his own line back in LA, he probably just designs those and had his sewers make them. Everyone knows the rules are strict, esp. after Keith's departure. I don't think he would blow a chance at $100,000 and cheat. He has played honestly, with who he is the whole series. I am really disappointed in Laura and Michael and Uli, they all jumped on the band wagon with no proof. They were all looking pretty jealous when Tim was giving kudos to Jeffrey. Tim, why didn't you notice it the first time if it was so obvious? Jeffrey, I hope you showed your stuff, I want to buy something from you and your not even my style, but you will be now! But oops the video filmed during fashion week, shows him clearly backstage getting ready. I have been cheering my little heart out that his sins found him out. What a fool I was to believe the tease I saw on Bravo TV the next day after the epsidoe aired. If he won, it doesn't really matter, no one will work for a dishonest, overbearing, tatoo wearing, lying, cheating, stealing..... see I get realty tv and country music all mixed up. I still can't believe he put Darlene in a black sack and thought she should be happy. It was none of her business to have any comment about what he did she should have just been happy that he designed a sack with some color squares, and a jacket with elastic in the back. You can be very sure had II been her place Jeffery would have been a no show on that runway.
He will never learn to respect other people regardless of their age, size, or appearence. He is a designer has been no matter how he did on the final fashion runway. Not only that he has embarassed his family once again, except this time he is on National TV.

Hello beautiful people
I cant say how much I have enjoyed watching all 3 seasons of Project Runway. I live in Western Australia and my introduction to PR was the Santino impersonation of Tim Gunn that some wonderful person had put into youtube.com, I laughed so much I did my research and managed to download (ummm) all the episodes from each season. PR is only available on Foxtel and since I only have free to air, well you can see I was suffering.
This has been an interesting season with some very different designers aiming for the top spot, as much as I like Uli's designs they all start to look the same after a while, same for Laura although I do like the classic look she is so gifted in designing. I really think my favorite is Jeffrey and I will be disappointed if he is taken off in the last episode. They question whether he did all the sewing in his collection and yet if you look at him he is the only one WITH a professional work area...everyone else is designing and making off their kitchen tables. I have worked in the theatre as a costume maker and there is no secret to turning out well made garments in good time...be organised, don't doubt your designs and don't doubt your abilities.
I hope Jeffrey wins, I like him a lot and his ethic...plus I really like to see a battler do well. Kudos Jeffrey.

This is not a nice woman, she presents well with excellent social skills, but she is one aggressive, vicious, and nasty woman. Its a shame life has dealt her such a blow that she has become filled with hatred and embittered. She is still in her 40's and with lots of therapy, and some medication she may find some sense of self, but its not likely. I guess this is just TV drama, but I thought it the worse I have seen on TV.

Good peaceful cuddling music, so maybe you should try turning it on the next time you have a female with you, kind of a Ten Things I Hate about you approach to music. Agree with Jeffrey on Laura that any time someone's work is better than hers, she auto thinks they must have cheated. Laura obviously took those Nike goddess ads a bit too seriously a few years back and sees herself up on Mt. Olympus far above the clouds looking down on everyone else on PR. Did Laura Bennett even need to report that or don't you production people have to do a check of those receipts anyway? Such a drama queen is Laura Bennett!

Isn't it absinthe, the drug that can cause kidney failure and paralysis of the internal organs that cause people to see green leprecauns or little green space men or am I wrong and is that Jimson weed (like the Georgia O'Keefe painting flower?) so exactly what were you production people actually doing in Florida at Uli's, hmm? Agree with the first blog poster on Laura going that low because I couldn't believe she was that smug and so sure, as if she were having psychic visions of other people sewing Jeffrey's clothes just via Laura touching them and inspecting them. Let this be a lesson to future PR contestants that if you make it to the finale, at least pretend that you're not finished with your designs and pop off a few buttons and resew them or the other contestants who procrastinated for the filrst couple of weeks or month, will not see your skills as excellent time management skills, but rather as cheating. The Jeffrey situation and Keith situation seem very different to me, but I noticed that the camera focused on the gathering of the receipts by Jeffrey in a foreshadowing of the drama to come. Okay, so which one of you guys put those books back in Keith's room, now? I know. One of the contestants managed to steal them from wherever you stashed them and set Keith up. Nah, you probably lock everything up and keep a good grip on things like your keys so nothing ever gets stolen, not even your keys, so no one could have taken those books and put them back in Keith's room. So again, which one of you did it? Just kidding.

Just can't imagine a life without jeans although I've lately lived in my sweatpants and pub tees while procrastinating about going to exercise myself. All the clothes I own and I live in sweats and tees and jeans myself. Yoga? Yes, that's what I need to do to relieve the stress of watching this season and I also can't believe as poster Kimi said that Laura sank that low, refocusing a little attention on herself with her self righteous accusations as usual. Hey, Laura finished her work early on many of the challenges at Parson's so should it be asked how closely the cameras watched her and how many moments cameras were off and everyone on production away? No, of course not. So how could Jeffrey have finished so rapidly and be completely finished by Olympus Fashion Week? Because less stress on his own and he already has his own design business and obvioulsy has time management skills. Looking back at Season One of Project Runway and its finale, and watching the first part of the finale for season three, no one has yet matched the beautiful presentations of PR1's finale. Maybe Laura needs to look back at Season one and realize she's just not up to par and Jeffrey seems to have matched it. I look forward to the next season and a better finale and a bit less drama and a little more design focus.

This is acutally a serious question for you Mr. Producer. I am newly pregnant myself and knowing the schedule of doctor's appointments I'm going to have, I became curious as to how Bravo dealt with Laura's pregnancy needs especially given she's in the category of "high risk" pregnancies, besides telling her that when she drinks on camera it has to be a non-alcoholic drink. Did you guys have to go "off-site" so she could go to her doctor when necessary?

I love your blog and all the inside scoop for P-Run fans (much better than that Cohen guy ;) ).
Now, what is going with Laura? Over the course of the season, she has devolved into this uber-b**ch that never talks about her own work but just trashes everyone else's?! Are we really seeing Laura as she was during the show or is the Laura personality driven by you clever folks in production (as I'm sure she would claim)?
In any case, what she is trying to pull with Jeffrey is low, low, low. And, shame on P-Run for suggesting that her charges have any credibility to them and actually conducting an "investigation"! Laura was clearly threatened by the superiority of Jeffrey's work and lashed out. You guys carry the blame for validating her uber-b**chy rantings!! You made Jeffrey cry.
I can't help but wonder if Laura's baseless accusations, oh, excuse me, there was a basis for her accusation - her "GUT"! Whatever. Santino called it correctly, Laura is a "hobbyist." I have already seen pics of her collection and Jeff's and his is leaps and bounds above hers both in design aesthetic and execution. We have seen most of the outfits presented by Laura on previous fashion runways, just done with more style (like the YSL-like dress in the couture challenge). Is there a penalty for ripping off other designers' work?
It is my sincere hope that P-Run returns to the focus on fashion that I got hooked on in the first place. Of course, it is a reality show and must have drama but PLEASE - no more manufactured drama! You are doing the show a disservice - this is one of the very few reality shows that can stand squarely on the merits of the participants' talents (for design, that is).
In any case, Rucker - Keep it up! Love your commentary. Hope you're on the Top Chef team since that is the next Bravo show I will watch. And, please give us your (real) thoughts on the Jeff/Laura fiasco.

I would love to have lunch with you some day and just sit there sipping something and listening to you talk forever about everything and nothing. Come on, you know you want to! In the immortal but paraphrased words of Farmer Ted: "Come on! I'm a girl, you're a guy, what's wrong with me wanting to put together some kind of relationship?" And if Jeffrey gets kicked off, "Either I'll do it, or I'll get someone bigger than me to kick your ass." PR rocks, but your blog is the absolute best. Please keep writing to us all year round!

Michael, this blog is really very funny. I've never seen the show (currently taping the marathons) but I've read all your posts and comments and hear people talking about the Profect at work all the time. Super super comedic effort; your timing is impeccable and the random pop-culture references are like off the chain man. Love the over the top, mid-Western self-depracating humor, despite it being oh so ironic given the sheer number of earnest amorous comments being posted here. The public is speaking and a breeze is blowing, laden with the Essence of Rucker, through the Bravo TV website. And that scent smells like fashion, baby! And its looking real good. But whatevs. The pathos being created here is tangible and very everyman-ish and that's a cool vibe. Thanks for making my day.

Rucker, you've outdone yourself. Great stuff here! The back story stuff is cool, and to have it so laugh out loud well written is fabulous. Thanks for making my day. Note to all Jeffrey fans: he should have been kicked off week one. Not for his nasty personality, but for his lousy garment. Yes, he completed his stuff on time all season, but it looked like s*%*, with two exceptions: the garbage challenge dress and the pants he made (with plenty of fitting help from Alison) for the Macy's challenge. Seriously, the man can't make clothes...his stuff looked like he graduated from the Santino Rice school of clothing deconstruction. Not just his first dress, but also his Miss USA gown stunk, his dog challenge outfit stunk, his black and white challenge dress stunk, his dress for the Mom challenge was an outrage. He should have been kicked off at every one of these steps along the way. Even his rock star outfit for himself, while perfectly styled for himself as client, was pitifully made...did you see how the jacket hung in the back? Seriously folks, whether you like his taste or not (and I don't) the man cannot make clothes.

I have never been a fan of Jeffrey's and some of his designs were not my taste, and, I thought the mom episode was shameful on his part. However, I do think Laura was out of line. She has always had my respect...until now. Michael has always been my favorite, and Laura & Ulli a tie for second, but now, although I still do not like Jeffrey, I hope he stays in the competion.

Great blog. But I HAVE to know about the road trip with the sugar glider. Do they make good pets/ do they tickle when in your shirt?
Laura vs. Jeffrey - I think she raised a valid concern. And Michael said he'd been wondering about the same thing. It might have been better if Laura had brought up her concerns to Jeffrey first, but we know he'd have gone off on her. Since he did not care for Laura's mom's fellings, or anybody else's most of the time, Laura probably knew it would upset him, but did not care.
I personally did not like Jeffrey's collection. Too much cutesy-poo red and white pieces. Andthe two blue dresses wereout of left field.
But most of all - he broke the rules. What part of "You have to give us all your receipts" did he not get? And what about the cap on expenditures? So, besides causing more sturm und drang than any other person on the show, he gets all verklempt when his rule-breaking might get him disqualified. And I wonder how his girlfriend feels about all his hand-holding with his jodel.
But he won, and I wish Uli had. She has talent, seems a genuine person, and does a heck of a great bunch of designs. I hope she does well.
Laura is a blunt New Yorker, and is amazingly talented as well.I would wear all her outfits, as well as Uli's. Michael is too hootchie-mama with his collection.
I just loved Kayne, and was bereft when he was "out". I hope he does well too. There were some great personalities on this year's shows. And a lot of them seemed to be very nice, which made Jeffrey really stand out as a crabby self-centered creep sometimes. Making someone's mom cry - what a goon.
I wish all the designers well, but think Jeffrey needs to takes some time to get organized, as he seems really scattered when it comes to money. Uli and Laura have tons of drive, and I think we will see more of them.
Can't wait for season four. And I think they should have a show
where some designers who won challenges, but did not make it to fashion week have a challenge that is not too off the wall, like the recycling one.
Best regards to Project Runway, and all its fans,
Marie G.
