Episode 8

August 31, 2006

Something’s afoot! Like a good whodunit, this episode was filled with suspense and mystery. First to the untimely auf of two models, due to last week’s “mom-model” extravaganza! The designers had to choose from scratch, but all stayed with their current model choice. You could see the disgust from the other models when the last one “in” was Amanda.

Meanwhile, back on the tension filled runway, Heidi announced.…

The Challenge: Design an outfit for a hip international jet setter. She also hinted at benefits to be revealed later. Thank God Heidi didn’t self-destruct after delivering the cryptic message. Details filled in by Tim were that the designers would design for themselves and be their own models.

Jeffrey egged on Angela over last week’s events and you can tell there is no love lost here, but it’s what I call a “Jimmy Cracked Corn” issue (“I DON’T CARE”) -- ugh! That was all sooo last week! As they all feverishly sketched for 15 minutes, Angela seemed to be out of her league. For her, “jet setting” is “sitting on the jet-plane waiting for the free peanuts, ma’am.”

Tim's conversation with Angela gets my Brilliant Exchange of the Week:

Tim: “This looks so ‘Junior,’ don’t you think? Doesn’t this kind of look like Holly Hobbie?"
Angela: “No, that’s good. I like Holly Hobbie”
Tim: (pause) “Okay.”

On the roof at Atlas, Michael is giving runway walking lessons to Kayne, whose brill summation is: “Easier for you when you’re from the ghetto, I’m from white trash!”

Runway Day saw judges Michael, Nina, and Francisco Costa, Creative Director from Calvin Klein. The jet set? Jeffrey, who finally gets to live like a rock star. Laura, going to cocktails and Michael, doing his seersucker salute to hip hop. And then there’s the flight crew -- Kayne, channeling Elvis and Liberace. Uli, back to Prints on Parade and seems to be starting to annoy the judges, plus Vincent -- who we’re just glad to see wearing something other than his boxer shorts.

But wait -- there’s too much time left on my TiVo! (Cue musical theater panic music.) "Could be, who knows, there’s something due, Heidi’s way, we will know right away, soon as they show.…" The answer came cannonballing down through the sky when the judges finished their questioning and informed the designers they had an hour to pack and get to the airport for a Jet Set adventure in their new threads.

Merde -- they’re off to Paree! The designers flew first class with Tim and arrived at Parsons Paris where they met Catherine Malandrino, who provided the final points to their score after seeing how their outfits traveled. And, one person will be shipped right back to the States.

Grumpy Jeffrey wins. And the auf’d one is Angela. Ms. Malandrino says, “You are just come in from another world and you are not a jet setter.” Poor Angela. No more La Vie en Rosette!!

Jeffrey, take note: AA is about losing your ego, learning humility and exhibiting gratitude and generosity. watch Angela's exit video and learn. maryann from oregon

I was disappointed with Jeffery's outfit. There was something wrong with the lay of the lapel and collar = poor design and construction. It looked like what every other rock star wears. Not innovative enough for this competition. Michael's design, however was excellent and looked great on him, his sewing/tailoring skills are great.

I think maturity and attitude is important also. I agree that Jeffery needs to re-visit his 12-step work. Michael, Laura and Uli are doing well staying out of the fray. I was pleased with the emotional strength of Angela in this episode.

Forst of all, let me just say, I love your blogs. They are completely awesome.
On the note of the actual SHOW, I seriously could not believe it...I have never had the best of luck with designers (Kieth and Alison, my 2 other favourites, are gone), so to hear that my favourite person (Jeffery) won, and my least favourite person (Angela) was auf'd, I seriously ran around the house screaming and jumping...*ahem* I mean, I was extremely happy.

Jeffrey, your behavior on the last two episodes has been unkind. Just because you dislike Angela was no reason to hold a grudge and be extremly rude to her mother. Then you chose to harass Angela in the workroom on the last episode. Your behavior was childish and unprofessional (aren't you a professional designer?) If I was your mother I would be embarrassed and ashamed of your behavior.

Jeffery,
If you are reading this you should know that despite your talent as a designer and what your Mommy may tell you, you're an awful person. So you had some tough times in your life and bounced back to noteworthy success, BIG DEAL! That doesn't give you the right to antagonize and insult your peers. People have gone through a lot worse than you, bounced back and still managed to kill their enemies with kindness. Grow up you self-righteous narcisist or America will hate you and not buy your clothes no matter how many celebrities you have dressed.

Hi Angela,
You have class, too bad the people who run this show have none. I love the show never miss it
but to get you all the way to Paris just to send you back was so low, they have money and that move was so arrogant of them.By the way who dresses Heidi? some of her outfits look like cheap Kmart specials, especially those black outfits she wears. I think Jeffrey should have won if the contest was to mimic a rock star, where in hell was that a jet setters outfit?? I think if Vincent wore a nice pair of loafers with a lighter colored pants he would have been more on the mark, he looked casual and comfortable the way most men travel, who do you know that dresses like a rock star on a daily basis, if you are not one?? Get a life designers and stop playing favorites it's not a personality contest, and Kayne please go back to okie fanokie, no one in NY or any metropolitan area wears your clothes, you have been in the pageant business too long. Laura is a master seamstress but not everything is formal evening wear, she has a hard time with separating the two. Well good luck Angela, remember it was you who had their outfit in Macy's window, no one else did.

Jeffrey is the most pedantic, self-absorbed, and arrogant "designer" to ever be on this show. Geez, at least Santino was funny.

What the hell's up with Jeffrey?! "Whah, I'm a recovering whatever, whah, everyone bow to me 'cause I'm finally dealing with life like the rest of the world" Who cares?!

Jeffrey, you should really start concentrating on your designs (which need all the help), stop obsessing about what everyone else is doing/not doing (you're like a freaking old lady), stop being mean (especially to your elders; how would you feel if someone treated your mother the way you treated Angela's?) and get off (no drugs please) your high horse. Newsflash: you are not the most talented there.

BTW, if you want a lesson on how to be a gentleman, someone everyone pays attention to (which is incidentally what you so desperately want), look at Michael...now there's a Talented and Classy Desiner.

Angela had a couple of good designs, but not enough to keep her going. On the other hand - Jeffery should have gone last week after his disrespectful treatment of Angela's Mother. It shouldn't matter what his relationship with Angela is - she is not the client. And instead of giving her son a slap across the head, Jeffrey's mother kept making excuses for his bad behavior.....obviously she's had a lot of experience doing that, but it's time she stop.

Jeffrey,
You're a mean person. The fact that you enjoy being mean is really pathetic. FYI being abusive to other people is not cool...not entertaining...not funny, and it's grossly un-professional. I hope when you watch the show you see yourself more clearly and it prompts you to get some help.

Bravo & Project Runway Judges,
I'm disappointed that the judges didn't take Jeffrey's behavior toward his client (Angela's Mom) into consideration when they made their decision. The designer who was eliminated had a client who enjoyed her experience and liked her dress. I think Bravo kept Jeffrey on at least partly because they felt he was more entertaining. Speaking for myself and my husband - he's not. It's disgusting to watch the way he treats other people. If I wanted to watch abusive people I'd be TiVoing Springer.

Ozzylace wrote:

I too am really tired of Jeffrey and wonder how he would take it if someone treated his Mother like he treated Angela's. It would also be interesting to see what his Mother thinks about his treatment and subsequent goading. I think that Michael and Uli have been the most inspiring designers in the challenge when it comes to integrity. They do their job, stay out of all of the BS, and it shows. If I had to choose a between the winner, who is an ass, and the loser who isn't, my business would go to the loser.

My personal comments on the designers....
michael is easily my favorite. He is nice, well adjusted, and reasonable. He is fun with out Kayne's outlandish flair and safe without Robert's tendency to bore. His attitude is definitely the best part and I hope he wins the show!
Laura needs to cut loose. It seems the only way she does that is to go out and get preggo. She needs to find another way to get release because girlfriend, you are overpopulating our planet! Her designs are very nice and remind me a bit of Kara Saun from Season 1- though not as imaginative. There is a market for her....I think she will make the finals. If she steps it up, she COULD give Michael a run for his money.
Uli is a sweet sweet girl who does one thing well: mix patterns. She is talented, but it all starts to look the same after a while......
Kayne is CRAZY. I LOVE him as a person. He is so delicously catty and flaming! But WHOA girlfriend, take it down about 20 notches!

Jeffrey is angry angry angry. He needs the prize money to go to a shrink more than to start his own line of rocker-trash wear. I mean REALLY! WHO would wear his stuff to work or to a job interview. He has NO concept of marketing for the masses... and his poor mother. She seemed like a nice and classy lady and I am so embarrassed for her.

And vincent... how on earth is he still around?? I have been waiting for him to get kicked off every week!

For poor angela, i have to say that i really hated her at the beginning of the season and thought she would turn out to be another wendy pepper, but she redeemed herself nicely and I must say that she handled it with class.

I can't wait to see who wins!
I miss the season 2 designers! I thought they were more fun. Wouldn't you all love to see Santino, Jay, and Jeff in a room together?????

Good lessons in this show about what it really takes to "make it" in any high power / high profile position... not only fashion design. It takes more than extraordinary skills to make the cut ... work under pressure and with short deadlines, handle difficult people, rise to the occassion no matter what the "material" and just as important - be able to play the part!

Kathy wrote:

This season started out with great potential, but the challenges are too far away from real clothing design. I can barely hear the dialogue because they are way overdoing the musical soundtrack, apparently hoping to make the show exciting. The designers looked good on the audition show, now they remind me of the patients in"One Flew Over The Cukoo's Nest" (with less smoking). Season One is still the best, I liked watching the hands on work of designing and sewing, they looked like they were having fun, and most "reality" shows are better before they are successful. Season Two had some memorable moments, though the women were boring, Season Three isn't a must see for me anymore.

I can appreciate that Jeffrey has gone through some tough things in life and I admire his courage to try to make a statement in the fashion industry. I am however, disappointed by his behavior with Angela's mother, he really should have been more respectful and professional. I also feel he could/should have been more mature in his dealings with Angela in last nights episode. I don't have a problem with Angela as a person, but on a more practical level, if I had to see one more rosette I think I would have screamed. I can appreciate it's her little signature, but I feel it was overkill. I have really enjoyed this season so far. It's too bad Keith went home so early, it would have been interesting to see how he would have done. I also wish we could have seen more from Alison, she was super cute and I like her work. I am looking forward to the next episode in Paris!! :-) Thanks for your time.

WOW! what is this a Jeffery bashing contest? First of all I think most people can't take Jeffery because he tells it like it is, but that is what is so great about him. I mean work in retail for about five seconds and you will understand where he was coming from with Angela's mom. As for Jeffery's designs they rock and I would wear them anywhere!! I am so excited that the judges finally realized where the real talent is. However, I totally adore Uli too her dresses are so cute, and kayne i totally love him. Kayne is like Las Vegas meets the farm. Micheal we have seen them all of it before and it is getting boring. Laura could have a following from ladies ages fifty and older because she certainly doesn't design for a younger crowd. Finally, Vincent I just enjoy seeing what he is going to do next.

Karen wrote:

I'm so surprised to see how many people are focusing on how mean Jeffrey was to Angela's mom. Did anyone happen to notice how INCREDIBLY WHINEY she was? I found her to be totally annoying, and I bet her over-abundant insecurities would have been a problem for no matter which designer she had been paired with.

Jeffrey had a very, very difficult "customer" to deal with, and I really don't blame him for tiring of her. I think people are confusing his being "firm" and standing up for his vision as being "rude." Actually, I did feel sorry for Angela, but only because her mom was such an embarrassment.

Is it Jeffrey’s fault that he was paired with someone in a totally different league from him regarding progressive ideas? Jeffrey had a job to do, and he did the best he could with what he had to work with..... a frump from the farm. I dig Jeffrey and I’m glad he won the last challenge.

Yves St. Laurent has always been a breed apart from the crowd, and Donna Karan goes a bit over the top sometimes in real life. This isn’t a congeniality contest, PEOPLE!!! It’s fashion design.

Wow, what a great episode!
Finally we get rid of the baggage and can move on with the talent!
I am so excited each artist/designer has such a unique style. Jeffery is all young and hip and should do great with the under 18 crowd. Michael is thoughtful and really knows that 20 to 30 year old woman and how she see's herself (or would like too!). I love Laura I would wear anything she has made, everthing she touches is chic and fabulous! every 20 to 50 year old executive or attorny would look great in court or the board room in her clothes. Vincent is so ereverant. I love his attitude and his genuineness, he is so willing to try anything! He really dressed Uli's mom in such a sophisticated manor. Uli is fun and so different. I love her smile and her Idea's she is a joy to watch on the show! Last but certanly not least is Kayne! I LOVE him! He is so much fun and so Southern, he definatly needs to continue with his great designs for shows and beauty pagents he has an incredible talent that is not being addressed in this arena.Thank you to all the designers for there hard work and willingness to put themselves on the line and in front of the cameras for us to see, your all fantastic! can't wait to see what happens. Good luck to all of you.

it is understood, jeff is one mean angry man. i would like to know what goes through the judges minds. the theme was dress yourself as if you are a jet setter. uli, created the most wonderful gown. then what do the judges say, it looks too much like you, what you wear??? michael looked so great, (he listened to tim, regarding the top) and created a wonderful outfit, the pants had clever cuts and angles, the top worked. vincent's 2 piece looked like dark hospital scrubs (i thought he should have been sent home) although i wasn''t crazy about angela's ourfit, she did show design. i really thought if was horrible to take those designers all the was to paris only to send someone home. that was so mean. i sometimes think the judges and heddi forget what rejection felt like. best to you angela and i hope michael or uli win...e.o

I am so glad that Angela is gone... I hated all of her designs except the Icon statement one. I feel that she and her mother need to get counseling. I hated her from episode one.....Jeffrey IS a designer with his own style. All of the other designers are well within the parameters of the show. Angela totally needed to go with trying to freeload off Kayne, and she influenced her mother to hate Jeffrey's design for her. The business is harsh and if you can't take it then leave. The competition is no way like it is in real life. Jeffrey is not being harsh, they are there to win. Good luck to the final remaining designers...

If this were the "I'm the nicest person on earth" contest, or the "who can be the craziest" contest, then I would have said Andrea and Vincent would have made the top three. But as we know, it's not, so thank you Laura for being a sweet person, but come back when you have more of a grasp on fashion. I find that our most "humble" winner this week was yet again pompous as usual, and such an a$$ to all his fellow colleagues. Jeffrey needs a serious attitude shift, and personally it would make my life if the judges just dug into him and his ego!! But one can only wish. Otherwise Uli is starting to depress me with the "pattern" phenomena. Ok, we got it, anything else? I applaud Laura for recognizing that she needed to think outside her own box and add a couple twists to her normal way of designing. I felt the dress was beautiful, but could have been a different color. Michael, what can I say, LOVE him!! Yes, Kayne did admit that it was hard for him to walk like he's not from white trash, but he surely outdid himself with the "flashy and trashy" statement on the runway. Who am I forgetting??? Oh yeah, Vincent, sorry, I think it's because nothing of his has left a good imprint in my memory. Anyway, my picks at this point for the final three would have to be Michael, Laura, and Uli. It seems like the hopes of Kayne making his comeback are looking as good as Robert's was. Although, they are in Paris, so who knows? Maybe we're in for a treat and a surprise for the weeks to come!

JJ wrote:

I agree with Annie up top. I wanted to see Angela booted off for being a pain in the neck during the first team challenge-but she got lucky then because Vincent's design was accepted. She has some quirks but dont they all? I think Angela redeemped herself quite nicely. I think last nite's show was wacky. Fly her to Paris, and come right back? Angela's oufit was better than Kane's, though I enjoy Kane a lot-but he needs his "sunshine" Robert. I think Angela's outfit was comfortable for her as Vince's basic and Uli's basic was comfortble for them. I thought they purposely humiliated Angela before she was auf'd..isn't being auf'd enough? Good Luck Angela!

Keep praying like your mom said, be courteous, keep up the good look and the smile going, keep winning and keep the style.Because of you I watch this show and I even leave my class to come home and watch the show just to see how adorable and smart you are. You're my role model. You never got into a big conflict like Angela (that is no longer in) and Jefferry did and I hope you never will. Dude I got to give this one to Jefferey, you really look good on that white but with Jefferey's look, it made him look like a rock star for real. Michael, not only you look like a designer, you look like a model too, a sexy one. Go Michael.

I was dissapointed (to say the least), the way they treated the last elimination process. It was distasteful, ungracious and definitely a bad image for this program. What were they thinking?
I am not a fan of Angela but I did not think she deserves to be booted out that way. Even the French judge was (in my opinion) rude in the remarks and process. ( Very unfrench indeed!). I just thought that this program is just not only about fashion and style but grace and civility.

I can't stand Jeffrey. The only male on the show who is a gentleman, talented and a class act is Michael. The others are for the most part petty and inmature and seem to get pleasure out of hurting or making fun of others. If Jeffrey thinks he will win Project Runway he is in for a shock. I don't think the show will let someone who is as despicable as he is win. He may be good for the ratings for now.
In addition there are others there more talented than he is.

Jeffrey is so tiring to watch. I feel sick when I look at him, not because of his horrid body ink-on his neck, but because of his AWFUL personality. Dude...get over yourself. Your attitude makes your clothes ugly....because you act ugly. I am so impressed by Michael's integrity and poise. He is a definite class-act. I hope the producers take note of that, and reward his talent. Jeffrey needs to go see a shrink or 10....and take mommy dearest with.

In my humble opinion, Jeffrey's the only designer who is truly fashion-forward in this competition.

angela showed that she was a good person when she was 'aufed'. i believe she will go far in her quest as a designer... it takes class to exit the show like she did.. it goes to show that people from "rural" towns (like where angela is from) are classy people...not just country bumpkins as some might think.

If I had a designer insulting my clients the way Jeffrey did, he'd be GONE. Jeffrey is not just designing clothes he's representing a company I can't imagine him bringing in many clients with that attitude. Why is Jeffrey on Project Runway have his clients run-away. I'm sure if he ever gets to read these comments, he will be tired ot being constantly compared to Michael, but here it is again: Jeffrey, learn some humility, some forgiveness, some grace, some class from Michael. The whole confession about being a recovering alcoholic didn't garner any sympathy from me, only more pity because it must truly be giving other recovering alcoholics a bad name to be associated with the likes of you. KAYNE: Niche market -- over-the- top ridiculous outfits, but there's definitely a niche market (i.e. country music awards?)
TIM G: Where are you?
ANGELA: So sorry, buh-buy! Your designs weren't wearable (except the Icon & INC ones), and no one wants to look like a teenager in their 30s!
PRODUCERS: Bad thing to fly Angela to Paris only to turn around & go home...really unfair. I hope she gets to keep her frequent flyer miles & the flight home was first class, too? -- should have been!

Oh, well-I enjoy the show; Did you notice that at the emmys last week, Heidi Klum wore a red silk dress designed by Micheal Kors? Last year she wouldn't wear the red dress Jay designed for her because she said she was feeling more natural, since she had just had a baby. Now she is pregnant and wears Kors red dress? On the show he often looks like he's just craweled out of bed-scruffy face and all. I have no idea who will win this season. But it looks like Uli or Vincent may get auf'd next week. The judges seemed a little tuff on Uli for some reason; you could look at her face and see she was pissed. Kane is representing the South ain't he? It is not fair how PR is constantly portraying him as a loon. He loves designing and has a good attitude with each and every challenge. Laura is a biatch and Jeff is just rude, they are both so ugly inside that it is impossible to see any beauty in their designs. You rock Vincent!!!

OK, Jeffrey DOES need to learn some "people skills". He was convinced that Angela and her mother were deliberately trying to sabotage him, and that might have been more paranoia than reality. He would probably have gotten farther with his "client" if he had not spoken so harshly to her. But, I also have to agree with the person who pointed out that Angela's mother was INCREDIBLY whiney and annoying! Talk about passive-aggressive! I probably would have been pulling my hair out if I'd even had to wait on her in a retail store, let alone design an outfit for her! For one thing, anytime you are trying to do something creative the last thing you need is someone hovering over you and being critical. Plus, she gave him a mixed message that was nearly impossible to accomodate. She wanted to be covered up, she had very conservative taste, and yet she didn't want to look "matronly"? Puh-leeeze!
Jeffrey is a talented designer even though his attitude could use a lot of work. And the "auf" last week was correct: I love Robert, but his design for Vincent's sister was not only super uninspired (why didn't he take a page from Uli and use a fun, classy black and red PRINT?), it was super unflattering and made the poor woman look kinda like "the Attack of the Killer Tomato".
I hope that the final three who show at Fashion Week will be Jeffrey, Uli and Michael. And I hope Michael wins, he's got terrific talent AND is a class act and a wonderful person.

Jeffery, can we see something else?

I do not understand Jeffrey's win on episode 8. His design was a cliche of a cliche. There was absolutely nothing "foward thinking" about his outfit. Sure, it was Rock based and it suited his temperament but so what? Very, very few rock stars, and even fewer rock star wannabes, are stylistic (or musical) trend setters. Most are notorious copycats who hop onto their distinctive genre's bandwagon then beat all of its particular elements (music, clothing, attitude) to death. Michael's design, I'm sorry to say, was no more innovative but the shirt had a daring, but classic, look to it that shone. The pants looked like excessive nonsense from the 80s that gets rightfully laughed at these days. Uli, I love you and am rooting for you but please baby, get off the prints - at least for one challenge!

I just hope that Jeffrey can work his 12-step program and for his sake, apologize to Angela. And no, Angela is not a jet-setterbut has a style all her own and I will miss her. I am looking forward to see more of Michael's creations. I just wish the show would cut the drama and get back to creativity. Too much fighting. I'm not watching Jerry Springer for gosh sakes!

Woah! What an episode!
I agree with the judges on who went home -- Angela. Her outfit was okay (it could have easily passed in other challenges), but this outfit was supposed to be for an international jetsetter. It looked like she was going to the mall with some friends! She took the rejection well though and I respect her for that.
As for the winner; although Jeffery has not one a challenge yet (I'm not a fan of Jeffery), I still believe that Michael (my favorite) should have one. Sure Jeffery's was smart and well put together, but Michael thinks about his clothes and he thought about where he was going and what he was doing. If Michael hadn't won two challenges already, he would have won. But in the end, he's just going to win it anyway.

Rebecca wrote:

I think that they could have at least let her go up the Eiffal Tower, even if her outfit didn't look like a jetsetter's and she lost. I thought the fact that she used rosettes on the outfit again was pretty funny.

Kathleen M wrote:

Wow, so much Jeffrey bashing.
Can we say hypocrite? Some people are bashing Jeffrey for being mean and yet, you are being incredibly cruel and mean to him. And how about gullable? Do you really think you see everything that happens? No, that's why the show has editors - to make the show more dramatic. Well, congratulate yourself - you fell for it. If you really believe everything you see - then I've got a great picture of a bridge I'd like to sell you - comes with a deed and all.
Please practice what you preach and be more kind.
And a little FYI for all of you who think Jeffrey should have been auf'd for his treatment of Angela's mother - the judges don't get to see what happens backstage. So please stop going on and on about it already.
The simple truth is all designers have egos and are arrogant - they have to be in order to make it in fashion. I've worked in the fashion industry for ten years and have yet to meet a humble designer.
Did you all forget how Angela behaved towards Vincent in the Miss USA challenge? Or that Laura yelled at Keith for using Michael's sewing machine in the Dog challenge? I think it was hypocrital for Michael to say it wasn't any of Jeffrey's business to get involved when Angela messed up Bradley's machine during the idol challenge, Michael didn't tell Laura to stop screaming at Keith when he wanted Keith off of his sewing machine. Not to mention that Angela's outfit for the Dog challenge made her model look like a hooker. Didn't Angela say in her Bio Video her designs are mistaken for an Eve St. Laurent? Maybe in Ohio. Sorry folks but I didn't see Eve in her designs. I did see a lot of rosettes. Speaking of rosettes: WTF was up with the flowers of rosettes on her butt for the jetsetter challenge?
Which brings me to her mother. Sorry folks, hate to go against the Jeffrey bashing, but I think Angela's mother restricted Jeffrey to such an extent there was no way to make that woman happy. He did buy the colors she asked for and covered her like she wanted. Personally, I thought the lighter color he selected made her skin look great and brightened her face. I think if she wasn't so restrictive and let him design, she probably would've been happy with what he made for her. After all, he is a designer, she isn't. She should've had more faith in him.
And how gracious was Angela to stand on the runway and say Jeffrey's outfit was embarassing? Maybe Jeffrey should have made her mom a hooker outfit. Now, that would've been embarassing.
I was really glad Jeffrey won the jetsetter challenge - thought he should've won the Recycling challenge also. He looked like a Rock Star and was the most ambitious of the designers.
And for all of you criticizing his designs - I don't see you on the show or your designs in Macy's.
I think the Jeffrey bashers need to relax - take it for what it is - a show that's edited for drama purposes.
Lighten up people - it's just fashion.

I really recommend Tim’s pod cast and the extra video clips on Bravo.com that went with this episode. I can’t believe all that’s edited out and crammed in to make the hour time slot. It’s all good! Anyway, regarding this episode, the whole making yourself over and jetting to Paris thing was totally cool!
I have to say I was surprised by the judges reaction to Uli’s dress – the prints were beautiful and the design was complementary (on the tele). They had lauded her ability to use patterns previously and cut it down this time?? I would have put Micheal, Uli, and Laura at the top of this one – definitely not Jeffery’s design. I honestly don’t watch PR3 for the drama – I watch because I am amazed at the talents of these folks and wish I had an ounce of their artistic gifts. Tim Gunn brings absolute integrity and dignity in his role as “the mentor”.
Lastly regarding this episode, I want to give kudos to Angela who departed quite gracefully and was big enough to acknowledge the accomplishment of the childish victor, Jeffery. Well I’m not a fan of rosettes either, but Miss Angela’s creation is in production and on sale at Macys.com!

I appreciate that this is important to the contestants but if it's the hardest thing you've ever had to do life hasn't been all that bad despite the protestations otherwise.

And honestly, who cares what he thinks about everyone's designs but his own? And has Laura has said, if he's so fabulous whatever is he doing on the show?

A message to Kayne stop with the glitter! Show us something different. Uli I love the dresses with the color...very cool. I would wear one in a minute! Laura needs to win one soon because she continues to be classically good.

I have been most impressed with the level of technical expertise this year as compared to the first two seasons. In the first two seasons you had a couple who were good at the sewing and tailoring. This year you have numerous contestants that are very good in this area.

Michael is in every way a class act and gifted designer. He is not so caught up in his design is the best. On several shows he has looked at what was happening to the design and adjusted to make it better. His approach to design is very thoughtful and well thought out. Every thing he has done has been stylish and tasteful.

Laura, I loved her design philosphy. Find the style that suits you best and stay with it and forget trends. Her styles are classic and timeless. She and Michael work well together and were responsible for Angela winning the Macy's challenge. If it had not been for them we would have seen the rosette butt in that challenge. It would be nice to see just a splash of color from Laura.

Uli, I have loved every fabric she has used. Her ability to use pattern, texture and color is the best of all the desigers. While I have loved every fabric and would be happy to wear them every day there are the days that they would not be approiate. I agree with the judges I would like to see something different.

Maybe Laura could move two steps closer to the Uli color infusion and Uli could move two steps closer to the Laura practical classic.

When I see Kayne I am reminded of Austin Scarlet. Both of them are over the top romantics about fashion. Kayne's technical talent may be a little better than Austin. He may not be rounded enough to win but I think he will land a super gig just like Austin did and will be very successful. While he really missed the jet set challenge the choice of fabric and the way it was used would have been beautiful on a blouse an skirt for a female or a dress.

Jeffery's best was the recycle challenge. There was style, orginality and function to that dress. It was his best work. He has his own style but it is not a style that relates to the masses. When you look at the last two winners they had designs that appealed to all age groups. Jeffery only showed that in the recycle challenge.

Vincent did a great job with Uli's mother. That was his best. Not necessairly deserving of the win because he did not have same challenge as some of the other designers The Miss USA dress would have been better if he had listened to Tim about the shoulder wings.

Angela needs to spend some time learning to sketch. Some designer sketches are like a doctors handwriting only they can understand them. The next thing she needs to learn is how to edit signature granny circles. Her best was the Audry dress. Don't think she would have won the Macy challenge if it had not been for Michael and Laura.

For the show and producers you have me hooked. Over all I think the show is great. I know you want to have shows that push the designers out of the box. This year with Wall to Wall and Recycle I thought that was a little much for the viewer. It was nice to see the designers strugle with the plus size challenge. It is obvious waste and wall to wall were a piece of cake because it was the size they were use to working with. What about the Baby Boomers who were fashion forward in the sixties forward and now don't want to look like their grandmothers or the under twenty-fivers. How about the average height woman or the woman with an area out of porportion (large hips, fannies or large bust) Laura's outfit for Jeffery's mother was really great but not for his mothers figure.

Looking forward to next year.

santino was also the same sort of "force". he was rewarded week after week by left on the show when his outfits received the worst critique from the judges.

the show needs a couple of new things:

get rid of heidi - her sense of style is non existent and her pursed lips saying she knows best is getting very annoying. like "hers doesn't stink"

get better looking models for crying out loud. this season's women are simply awful!

I haven't any sympathy for Angela or her mother...they were both so pathetic. Out of all of Angela's designs, I thought her outfit for INC was the most chic. The jacket was cute. But this last outfit was just awful. Blehh.

Ugh. Folks, get a clue. There is nothing mean about Jeffrey. There is something very honest about him.

Jeff only told A's mother the truth. She comes in there, whinnnnnning about how "I never wear bluuuuuuuue, Tim!" --- complaining, moaning, and talking behind Jeff's back. The woman had blue stripes in her shirt, for the love of god! On top of that, she got all upset because Jeff didn't want to make a jacket. Do you all KNOW how long it would have taken him to construct and sew a jacket for that woman? Have you ever even made clothes?

Someone made a comment that she wondered how Jeff would have liked it if his mother had been treated that way. Guess what? Jeff's mom was a class act - she wouldn't have behaved in the low-class way A's mom acted, so there wasn't a chance of that happening.

Jeff's clothes are cutting edge. He doesn't copy everyone else around him - he's at the forefront of what is happening on the street. That's where most of fashion comes from, people - from the street. He's just leading the pack.

As far as Michael goes, I used to kind of like him, but he's SO getting on my nerves with the "I've won two times" blah blah blah blah blah speech. I'm getting pretty sick of hearing him brag, and he wastes no opportunity to bring it up. Get over yourself, Michael.

By the way - even Tim Gunn noted in his blog that Angela egged on her mother in being upset. This is television, people. It's all about the drama. Angela did her best, along with her mother, to get Jeff off the show, and it didn't work. Angela's mother was the ONLY mother on stage to rip into her designer. The others had enough class to be nice.

Oh, and Bravo? I"ve noticed that you only ran the part about Jeff and his mom, where he asks her not to cry, and they hug, and she mentions what a life he's had on the street, in the original show. In every subsequent rerun after that (and there have been about 10 reruns), you cut that portion out. Why? Are you trying to paint Jeff in a bad light? Are you trying to skip over his sweet side?

Play games, people. But remember, you're getting played, also. It's all in how the episode is cut and edited. Obviously, a lot happened that we never see. Jeff is, above all, honest. That's the first step in recovery, folks. So he doesn't lie. GOOD FOR HIM! I'd take one of Jeff over 1,000,000 of the rest of you who couldn't tell the truth if your lives depended on it.

Jeff, keep your head up -- your talent clearly shines through. By the way, your outfit would look great on Jagger or Steve Tyler. You know your worth - too bad the naysayers on this site can't see it. Then again, I'm rarely surprised by the short-sightedness of some people.

Noone's mother should ever be treated that way. I've lost total respect for the show. If Keith is a representative of your industry then you should be ashamed. I think that Angela's mother should have refused to walk the runway - she had no input - she was an unhappy customer - and that would have forced Keith into elimination. I also believe Angela should have stuck up for her mother more and probably quit the show. There are more things in this life than a flicker of fame and money. Your family's honor and your self respect should be protected and upheld. As far as the excuse from the producers of the show that they did not see this coming - I don't believe that one moment. I worked in children's theatre for years and you always prepare by predicting different scenarios. They were cruel to allow that to happen to a mother (she was not a a professional or experienced in this world of fashion). The producers were so bent out of shape at Keith's behavior. Well, I'm sorry - I find Jeffrey's so much more intolerable. He hurt a human being - an innocent human being. Perhaps your show should establish a conduct clause in your contracts. The point is that Jeffrey was supposed to make a dress for Angela's mother. SHE was the client, and he didn't treat her professionally. He knew he could get away with it. You can argue Angela's mother was whiny. She was obviously uncomfortable... and as obnoxious as it was for Jeffrey to deal with her, he should have used patience and tact.

Laura, Laura, Laura...I hope you read this...you say you are someone who always is "dressed", not into the casual just rolled out of bed look.., and believe me you look great and I would buy anything you design, but for someone who is of the mindset to always be "dressed" I think you need to "undress" your filthy mouth. It is so unattractive. It takes away all your class and it turns me off on you.....for a mom of 5, you look great and dress great, I wish I could do half that and I only have two...I believe in dressing your best with the idea you are going to meet that multi-million dollar client in the next 10 minutes and always be prepared for that moment when you may be in the right place at the right time...however, I don't seem to get myself together much these days, I always use to pretend I was dressing to go me Donald Trump...but Good Lord, doesn't your level of education allow for a better way for you to articulate your thoughts? I am so envious of your look after 5 children, and I only hope to work my way back to my pre-children form within the next year in order to buy some of your designs, especially the jetsetter dress..Gorgeous! Michael or you should have won that challenge hands down. I agree with the previous poster Cathy LaBruno...Jeffrey's outfit was perfect for "so you want to be a rock star" but as for a jet setter...Don't Think so! My 7 year old daughter said she could design better than Angela. Angela seems sweet but way too much drama with every announcement GEEZ could you have more facial expressions than Angela..those bubble skirts and jet setter outfit bring me right back to my graduation class of 1981 UGHGHGHHGHGGH......GO MICHAEL!!!

Bravo is more interested in producing hyped up drama (ratings) then keeping with their creed of integrity, which Tim touted when they kicked Keith off. Season 3 formula is now like any other reality show, more filler and less substance.

Jeffrey and talent do not belong in the same sentence. His designs are far from original or hip. How innovative is black? His last outfit was so banal it reeks of passe rock magazine covers, nothing innovative, have seen it all before. He and Vincent are still on the show because they add backroom drama, not because they have talent.

Boo Bravo for your lack of intrinsic pride this season....

To Kathleen M. who posted on Sept 2nd. You seem to have a very low opinion of the intelligence and sophistication of people from Ohio when you refer to maybe they would mistake Angela's designs for (Eve St. Laurent). I am not from Ohio but have know many very intelligent people from there.

As a matter of fact there are quiet a few famous people from Ohio; Paul Newman, Orville Wright, steven Spielberg, Gloria Steinem, Ted Turner, Doris Day and Clark Gable. Then there are two austronauts Neil Armstrong and Judith Resnik and the golf great Jack Nicklaus. Oh, then there are five US Presidents from Ohio. T

Then there are all the current day politicians running for President who court and flock to Ohio because they know they must win Ohio.

I have not spent 10 years in the fashion industry so I don't know who Eve St. Laurent is. I do know who Yves Saint-Laurent (YSL) is. I think quiet a few in Ohio know Yves Saint-Laurent.

Just one more bit of info! The judges do know what goes on in the work room. Certainly Heidi as Executive Producer knows. Perhaps you could look at a re-run of episode 2. Miss USA talked about how Angela tried to take over and Vera Wang thought it was horrible and uncalled for.

While you want everyone to lighten up because it is just fashion you should remember the First Admendment trumps fashion. It is called FREE SPEECH and everyone is entitled to their oponions. Or in your case an opportunity to show your intelligence.

Good luck in your career in the Fashion Industry. Maybe next season Project Runway will hire you as a consultant for all your knowledge.

I'm just so glad that she's gone I didn't even feel too badly about having Vincent stay another week. Angela was the most coniving woman I've seen in a while and those awful granny sqaures are just pathetic. So I applaud her grace in leaving even in her saggy baggy outfit. I've really got my fingers crossed for this evening and now if the powers that be can get rid of Vincent, we can FINALLY get down to the real fashion of this show for the few remaining weeks.

To Shiela,
I feel bad for you.
I do believe the judges on Episode 2 were talking about the way Angela behaved on the runway - maybe you should watch that episode again - Angela really bashed Vincent on the Runway and it was editied so lord knows what else she said - not what happened in the workroom. And Tim said last season after the Garden Party Dress that the judges were not aware of everything that happens off the runway.
And before you start bashing me for my spelling, you better tell me what "oponions" are. Oh, you misspelled "opinions".
And I wasn't aware that all the celebs you mentioned are still living in Ohio - oh I'm sorry, they are only FROM Ohio - meaning they don't live there anymore? Or that is where the celebs have their other mansion - Not in Colorado or Palm Springs?. All the current politicians are flocking to Ohio in order to win? What the heck does politics have to do with this? This is a TV show - not the Presidential election.
Not sure why you took it all so personally - you really need to lighten up. Of course, perhaps this is all you have. In which case I feel bad for you.
You know, for someone who supports Free Speech, you certainly didn't support my free speech - or my "oponions" :)
My goodness, you're a total hypocrite. If you want someone else to respect you and your "oponions", you should have the courtesy to respect them and their opinons.

Just for the record, I wanted to remind bloggers of Angela's Chanel-inspired dress--which Heidi, buxom fashion plate that she is but dressed atrociously nevertheless said she wanted in every color... If Angela was so out of her element, she wouldn't have designed such a perfect garment. It was hot folks. Others have skated by on less, or been brought down by bad luck and unpredictable (garbage) materials--i.e., Angela, whose platinum hair and spirit I miss. Kayne should have bitten the dust on that challenge--not Angela. (The perks of being doted on by Tim are rather obvious here.)

Re: the blogger's above whiny comments about how evil women can be...? Whoa, get some cohones, dude.

If Jeffrey wins this thing I will never watch this show again. I love the show but if the producers and the judges want the world to know that being an ass and treating people terribly is what it takes to be a great designer then I will not support it. It is possible and I think a requirement to be a great designer for the person to be respectful and helpful to his or her clients and peers.

Ok..
1) I absolutely positively love this show and have since season one but never got soo involved as to post a comment

2) I absolutely adore Jeffrey as a designer. I understand the vision and style he is going for with his garments when most in my circle absolute detest them. Most people take their own personal taste in clothes and then judge others because it is just simply not them. Yet on the other hand the last few episodes I have not appreciate Jeffrey's demeanor toward Angela and definitely her mother. Working in this setting I can tell it is hard to always hold your tongue about how your personal feelings are toward an individual. Yet, I feel it is better to ignore and be civil 80% of the time as to be respectful, maybe not to that individual, to the group.

3) I am absolutely in love with Kayne's work, personality and humor. Granted, the last garment he made I liked as far as concept and construction but went just a little past tasteful to tacky. Other than that one garment, I have found all of his other garments tasteful, inspiring and beautiful. I did almost have heart failure when I thought they almost sent him on his way last week. I have said it to many. If Kayne is gone, I won't turn it on.

3) About Angela.. I believe Angela had some great concepts and ideas on garments. I believe a lot of her issues came at the time of execution and finishing touches. I think her true inner style was not quite what the judges were looking for. I paralleled her greatly with last seasons Kara who made it to the last 4 and then was bumped. I think she was very opinionated and strong-willed in a lot of areas and then unsure in others and that is why she clashed with many of her fellow designers.

And that's all I really have to say right now. Thanks.

Jeffery, i loved your outfit, it was awsome. a lot of people think you were out of line for getting mad at Angelas mom, but i think she really wanted you off the show so her baby Angela could get farther. Your awsome, and my favorite desiner, because you the most creative!!!!

So Angela is gone..that really is too bad, atleast she wasn't an annoying crybaby like Jeffery is....who really thinks Jeffery and his "I am incredible" attitude will really be able to work with other people to create his own line of clothing? This woman for sure see's him throwing a fit and once again pitching a "hissy" fit over the fact that others do not think like him. Jeffery may take his incredibly gross long neck and go back to where he came from...

Well...We now know that having NO TASTE WHATSOEVER qualifies you for staying on Runway vis-a-vis Bravo's judges. I'm sort of speechless. And just whose Daddy is Kayne's? Does he own half of Manhattan?!!? Sheesh... Feel sort of let down.

Correction: I meant to say I missed Allison's spirit and platinum blond hair (in an earlier post). Messed up and forgot her name. Allison, where are you when we need you? Why do have to look at jeffrey's ugly gloating?

So anticlimactic; couldn't they have gone somewhere fabulous in Paris? And what's with throwing the eggs? I guess we're still ugly 'mericans, in the city of light. Good night. I need a drink.

I am not enjoying this season as much as last season or the first season because there seems to be less emphasis on the creative process. Please, drop the fake drama and destractions and focus on the work.

Also, Hedi is boring: she has a very limited script that is super-repeatitive. Spice up her character by giving her a more quotable catchphrase. Instead of just "you're in" and "you're out", give her two cultural references. E.g., "you're in like big butts" and "you're out like big hair". Or, "You're in lower back tatoos" and "you're out like press-on nails". Or, "You're in like Al Gore" and "You're out like Al Roker".

I was so happy that Angela was AUF', she was getting on my nerves. That girl has no talent and should be kicked off a long time ago. Jeffrey, I'm 100% behind you. You're such an incredible designer, you always stick with your elements, but you can also be versatile when you need to be. So kudos to that. I do feel that Angela's mom was really playing with your temper. She obviously wanted her precious Angela to win. And at the judging, they were attacking you like mad dogs. But unluckily, you were safe. Continue with the hard work.

Au revoir, Vincent! You did a great job on the "mom" challenge. Your design for Uli's mom was classic yet original and it was appropriate for a mature woman. You are one of a kind, Vincent. I will miss you!
Rock on, Jeffrey! In my humble opinion, Jeffrey was the only designer whose gown embodied true 'haute couture' style , and the judges rightly gave him the victory. If he can keep it together, I feel that he has the talent to be this season's winner. His obvious dislike of Angela and the fiasco with her mom has caused him to be much maligned, but the truth is that Project Runway needs the drama to keep the network execs happy (ratings) and the viewers watching (ratings).

People keep defending Angela like she was innocent in all the incidents. Why wasn't she kicked off when she didn't submit a design to Miss America? That was part of the challenge and she didn't even compete. She had no tact when she trashed Vincents dress. I didn't care for it, but her responses were not kind or professional.
No matter what she says, I believe she set her mom in motion with Jeffrey. His reactions were professional either.
Angela should also have been on the chopping block that week. That dress for Laura's mom was awful. Who wears fringe these days?
It was definetly her turn to go. The jet set outfit with it's Yo-Yo's on the back was bad. Kudo Judges for making the correct decision.
Again.

I love Michael. He is the best and I think that he will win. Michael really thinks his outfits through, although I think this last challenge overwhelmed him a bit. Laura is sarcastic and a bit egotistical but the girl has her wits about her and she can sew the heck out of a dress. Uli is great and has the potential to make some awesome designs if she just thought outside the Uli box for a minute. Kayne is soo cute and I love his Southern Flair. He gowns are gorgeous he just needs to really think about his designs b/c he has the tenedency to over-due it. I do not like Jeffery PERIOD! Vincent was a little scary. I don't understand his concept of being "turned-on" by his designs?

Jeffery, Dude, stop being a jerk! Your clothes suck, and you should have been kicked off a while ago. By the way Jeffery, tight pants are so not attractive and what you made no one in the real world would wear, so if you win (please no!) just keep that in mind. Just because you won for your ugly plaid thing does not mean that it was actually any good. I am surprised your model even put it on. Micheal, Uli, and Kayne on the other hand are very talented. Project Runway should keep them around. They make clothes that people would wear, and that means something.

Lamotta wrote:

Micheal is awesome! He deserves to win, his designs, I would wear in a heartbeat.

I am happy for Jeffery. He should have won in the final episode. Jeffery is talented and smart. He knew enough not to let the other designers see all the talent he has. It's like a card game, you never show all your cards to the other players. The other designers judged Jeffery on his appearance only. He is the "bad boy" of designers. The other designers should have known better. He has designed one of a kind outfits for celebrities so he knows what he's doing. I thought he was doing what he could for Angela's mother. She wanted him to deisgn an outfit to her liking but that's not how it works. A good artist will take into concideration the clients taste but in the end it's his name on the clothing. I don't blame him for not letting her run the show. If she wanted clothing designed to her taste, she should have made it herself. All it takes is one horrible looking peice and his career would have been down the drain. Besides, she looked better in Jeffery's design than when she walked in. Jeffery designs are not meant for larger women. I have been overweight and know that no matter what designer lable clothes I purchased they just didn't look good on me, that's why I lost 60lbs. When Laura told Tim she believed that Jeffery had outsourced his collection, she came across as a jealous woman who knew that he was a better designer than her. Too bad that the other 2 designers didn't have a backbone and just went along with her. Another point, Jeffery had a studio to work on his collection. The others did it in their homes. He had no distractions and could focus completely on his collection. Laura had her kids and home as a distraction. Jeffery is the professional designer and not a seamstress. He lives in California and sees the fashion trends. Laura designs clothes that fit her taste and not many people want to dress in Southern Sophisticated styles. I'm from the south and I wouldn't buy her designs. Michael is good but he would be better off designing for hip-hop artists. Uli is stuck in a tropical theme. That is fine if she is designing clothes to be sold in tropical beach settings. I would buy her designs for a tropical vacation and if I lived in Florida, but the world doesn't consist of only tropical areas. Uli should either stay in Florida or other tropical areas and she will do just fine. Just looking at Lauras designs make me feel like I'm on an bad episode of Dallas. Even they wore jeans. No one dresses like that everyday. Congrats Jeffery! You deserved to win and I think you have more designs in your head and will be a success. I look forward to seeing more of your designs.

maloney wrote:

Jeffrey's win is a travesty. The judges must have thought that supporting "poor" "I am a damaged child," sloppy drug-addict Jeffrey", and his schizophrenic collection was more "hip" than selecting one of two magnificent designers. They gave him a pass for that blue dress-thing and few other abominations and going over budget.

Unfortunately, three decent hardworking meticulous and amazing designers who create beautiful clothing were overlooked by a miserable fellow who cannot even respect a budget offered to him by the show. When asked how much he was over budget, he even lied about that.

Maybe Nina didn't want evening wear featured in Elle Magazine. Who knows? In any case, I and my friends and family will not watch this bogus show again.

The only true winners in that show was Laura and Uli and their gorgeous and breathtaking collections. What a shame.
