This episode is black and white and red all over. The redheads are the major focus this week from the first shot. Kayne has his overly boyish confidence while Laura’s red hair may be melting her ice princess façade. Poor thing had her confidence shaken after her crushing couture defeat.
At the runway Heidi announces the challenge won’t be announced until a Loreal party later that night. Jeffrey realizes (not unlike Lorell from Dreamgirls) -- “it don’t take a smarty to realize that even though my man throws confetti in my face, it still don’t make it no party this ain’t no party.”
Heidi announces that challenge winners are back for a second chance. What else could Angela and Vincent be thinking other than the line from The Godfather, “Just when I thought that I was out they keep pulling me back in.” THe rules are pretty clear, though -- unless one of them win, they’re out again.
It's like celebrity deaths, the aufing will take place in three tonight.
The Challenge – create a cocktail party outfit using black and white fabric -- just like Maria Von Trapp with one set of curtains to make outfits for seven children, the designers will have to use every scrap of fabric they buy on their creations.
Again the redheads take center stage with Laura breaking more by the minute, second-guessing herself and trying to make her outfit look younger. It's really heart-breaking to see her admit that her spirit has been broken.
And how sweet is Michael Knight while he's warning Kayne about the "hooker" aspect of his dress. He was genuinely concerned and helpful. THis is what we love about Kayne - he loves his stuff. Speaking of hookjer costumes - was nobody looking at Jeffrey’s? Wow.
By the day of the Runway, it seems that the real challenge is just how much of your extra fabric you can shove in a handbag to meet the challenge requirements. The Judges are joined by Zac Posen, who is wearing, no kidding, an ascot. Awesome!
It's so gratifying to see Laura turn that frown upside down -- creating a cocktail creation that didn’t need a shaker. Michael made his (gorgeous) Absolut asymmetrical dress, while Uli stuck with her "one drink too many" patterned party print. With matching sausage. I mean, necklace.
The Party Poopers are Vincent’s "no-gin fizz" of a dress, Angela’s collar made from the leftover popcorn on the bar, Jeffrey’s last call creation and finally the poor sad, auf’d, Kayne’s black (where’s the white?) laced with something dress.
And so it’s back to the sequins and south for Kayne, say what you want, he was fun to have around. Vincent and Angela are still out (Praise the fashion gods).
The Quote of the week is from Vincent: “I’ve been making beautiful music all along. There’s no doubt, you know? And I’ll be making beautiful music the rest of my life. And I do it so damn well. It’s a gift.”
The hard part is that it's a gift that doesn't come with a receipt. Congratulations Laura, Michael, Uli and Jeffrey! Onward we go!

I had a gut-wrenching moment watching last nights episode, when I realized that they were going to bring back two aufed designers....da, da, DUH....and then the returnees ended up being the TWO that I least would have wanted to return. I don't care that they won a challenge prior...their overall appeal and constipated offerings were complete crap. I thought for one brief, glorious moment that I was going to see the wonderful Allison again!!!...then I saw Vincent's cowering frame stumble down the stairs instead! I guess it would be impossible given the time difference between the season's taping and airing, but I wish the audience could pick which two designers they would want to have seen given a second chance. I almost cried when I saw that 82% of the text voters wanted Allison to return. She was the worst elimination ever.
ATTN PRODUCERS: On another wavelength, it would be cool to have a challenge where the remaining five or so designers have to recreate their worst previous designs--having to incorporate the judges comments...A kind of reimagining. I'd like to see Michael and Laura reinvent their coutore dresses, Kayne redo his recycling dress, and Jeffrey redo his mom outfit. It would have to be for a future season, of course.
I have to say, for this episode, I pretty much agreed with the judges, except for the winner. I feel glad for Laura, but Michael was robbed. His cocktail dress was AMAZING to look at and seemed comfortable too. Can't wait to see our final three!!! Michael...Laura...and...hmmm??

This was a rather disappointing episode... the creative level just was not happening in my view. I don't feel that the remaining designers are at the same level as the previous seasons, with the exception of Michael..I am tired of Uli's designs, Jeffery is the same...and I am really uninspired by Laura.. oh well, maybe they might surprise me..I hope so! But you would think that a black and white cocktail dress would be a fairly easy task...comparatively. I was disappointed in Angela and Vincent..it was a chance to really shine... and well, we saw the results.. waiting for next week!

I thought last night's black & white episode was boring and expected. Once they brought back Vincent & Allison, I was sure they would be eliminated again (and rightfully so with the outfits they created). But what were the chances that they would switch Vincent's model at the last minute and bring in a bigger model near the end of garment construction? Seemed suspicious. I think Michael has been the most consistent with great designs and keep my fingers crossed for the outcome. When are they going to get rid of Jeffrey, I wonder...

Wuz up, where were the Olsen's??? Yeah I aggreed with the judges, Michael is the man though. I hope they let him take it all the way. I think Jeffrey is a loser. He 's like, "I'm a rock star, age 36," It is a little bit lame. Laura is ok, Uli is ok, but Michael is the man. He seems like a cool guy.

I enjoyed this episode much more than the last one. Personally, I didn't like many of the coture gowns but liked several of the cocktail dresses.
I loved Laura's dress and I'm happy that she finally won a challenge. I was thrilled that Kayne finally got the message (from the judges) and tried to incorporate a more minimalist approach. He just couldn't latch on to an approach that would be a bit Kayne and satisfy the judges. I wish that he'd thought to use black on the front of the dress and white on the back. How neat would that have been.
And what a class act Michael is. Always congenial, congratulates the winner (whomever they are) and gives honest feedback in a truly constructive way. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Michael wins Season 3!!

I too had a gut-wrenching moment watching last night's episode when I saw Vincent was brought back. When Jia had the accident, rumors were that her designer made it to the final three. I really really wouldn’t care for Vincent being one of them. Thank goodness that was not the case. Both Vincent and Angela might “hit it” once in a while (I did like the updated Audrey Hepburn dress), but both of them were inconsistent. Vincent’s recycled dress was one of the worst designs this season.
As for Laura winning last night, I was somewhat surprised. I agree that Michael should have won for his chic dress. Laura’s dress did look expensive because of the seemingly all-handmade details, and as usual it was nicely executed. Uli’s really showing her boundaries and limitations; she would need to do what Laura did last night—to have a different cut and/or a different silhouette in order to stay.
It’s probably safe now to predict that Michael’s got to be one of the final three because he’s so consistent! The other three are sort of in the same boat: they all hit the same note over and over. Jeffrey has a slightly distinctive point of view, but last night when Michael Kors said, “I keep seeing Gwen Stefani over and over,” that was as dead-on as Nina telling Laura she kept seeing YSL.
If the judges wanted a more diverse showing at the end, Jeffrey probably would be in, and one of the two ladies would be auf’d. Larua’s and Uli’s designs are more ready-to-wear, but I am not sure if America really needs another designer who doesn’t really have a distinctive voice. Last season when the final three came up with designs that were somewhat mainstream and “tamed” (even though most were well-made), I was disappointed. I would very much like to see some new, creative designs, not just something nicely executed.

Vincent & Angela showing up again? They're like a bad rash that won't go away. Let's hope this time their auf-ing sticks.
Jeffrey's outfit looked like a hooker ensemble -- edgy? Edged right off the cliff. Laura's was great, and Michael's was really super. Uli had a nice basic idea, but truly, it's the same recycled look. Plus, the arms were weird looking. Even though Kayne's dress really should have contained more white - he didn't follow the assignment? - wasn't that proven earlier in the season when Keith didn't dress his dog yet he remained "in"? The judges have already proven that not following the assignment isn't grounds for being auf-ed. So, why would Jeffrey (with his over-the-top hooker ensemble) stay over Kayne (with his "rescued" hooker ensemble)? Because -- the show is fixed!

Hearty Congratuations to Laura - a long overdue win. She and Michael will surely be amongst the final three. The other person is a toss-up. I personally like Uli's clothes even though she seems to always choose prints. However, I think the judges are beginning to be bored out of their skulls by the constant print fabric. I would certainly choose Uli over the nasty-mouthed Jeffrey whose so-called designs are never elegant or look expensive. He is stuck in making clothes for punk rockers (which is o.k.; they need to wear clothes too). However, he does not need to be one of the final three. If he is chosen as a finalist his exhibition will be very similar to Santini's last year; cursing a blue streak and an uninspired collection. Jeffrey would probably wear his jewel crotched jeans hoping someone would think he has something. He certainly does not have anything between his ears and I doubt he does anywhere else either. Jeffrey was saved last night because of immunity from winning the last challenge. Once again the judges said last night his "creation" was the worst. Interestingly enough Kayne was thrown out of the competition because he did not use white in his dress. The judges said he did not use the colors that were specified to be used. In an earlier show this year the designers were to make their model a dress AND make an outfit for a dog, Keith was allowed to stay even though he did not make an outfit for the dog assigned to him. This meant that he also did not complete the assignment and yet he was allowed to stay???? It seems Kayne was discriminated against last night and should be allowed to return as Angela and Vincent were allowed to return. Kayne too has won one or more of the competitions. To allow one competitor to stay when they have not completed the assignment and to kick another competitor off because they did not complete their assignment is not being consistent in judging. Across the board Kayne's designs have been much more creative and elegant than Jeffrey's. Kayne was royally robbed last night.

I would really love to know why the judges continually look past Jeffrey's hideous garments. I'm sorry, rock-n-roll or not, his stuff is just gross!
Angela and Vincent showed us last night just why they were 'auf'd' in the first place. My goodness; is that the best they could do with a second chance to compete for a spot in the final 3?
In my opinion Jeffrey should have gone, not Kayne. I can see where Kayne's design palate comes from and he actually has a market for his outfits, where Jeff is just from another world and should pack up his sewing kit and head back!

The elegance of the design was superb! But its not the first time the on-air judge comments fail to match the TV decision. Alison should be present for the dog-as-accessory challenge, and the real dogs, Vincent, & Jeffrey should be gone. Why do the judges even bother to give a numeric score each week when it apparently means nothing? I realize that the judges' decisions are subjective, but please --- what about fairness? I mean, why give scores if they mean nothing? Yes, it's a reality show, and the producers obviously like to play up the "drama", but couldn't the challenge itself and the difficulty of execution be enough? I guess not. As for the top contenders, Michael is clearly the one to beat (at least based on the scoring system) followed pretty closely by Laura, then Uli, and finally by Jeffrey. Just for the record, Kayne's overall points score is higher than Jeffrey's at the end of the "Black & White" episode, yet he is "out." And guess what --- Jeffrey's overall score was less than 2 points higher than his "arch-enemy" Angela's when she was booted! (By the way, does anybody know what the Jeffrey-Angela thing was all about?) I really just don't get it, but I'm still playing along because the show is so much fun to watch. She has had so many weeks where I think she was overlooked, and she finally got the spotlight. In my opinion, Laura and Michael were the only two with great dresses. However, Michael's dress did not fit the bill for a cocktail dress in my opinion. It looked like a fun sexy dress, but not for an elegant evening out. Don't get me wrong, I loved his dress, but I thought Laura was the only one with a true cocktail dress. Also, Laura did very well with the fabric challenge. I feel like that aspect brought a lot of the designers down. Uli's "thing", Jeffrey's ugly a$$ tights, Vincent's frumpy shawl, and Michael and Angela's cop-out with "lining/stuffing the purse" Laura used her pieces for tastefull details and embellishments that did not take away from the elegance, but added. So kudos to Laura!! My hopefulls for the final three would be Michael, Laura, and Uli. It is my utmost prayer for everyone to finally hit the brick wall and realize that Jeffrey needs to say buh-bye. Seriously, I think I have dreams about Jeff hearing "auf wiedersehen", and it only makes me wake up with a smile on my face...hey dreams can come true!

Do you, the producers, believe in what is fair for one is fair for all? Because that was not the case in the last episode. Michael, Kayne and Angela, all used a more of one color than another dramatically, yet, only Kayne was criticized for it. Michael had a black band around his white dress and Angela had the small jacket lined with white, and the rest of the entire piece was black. I am not saying the others should have been voted off with Kayne. But if you are going to attack a designer for their design and not the others, then where is that integrity you value so much? As Tim Gunn said, we are nothing if not for our integrity. I guess this means it's all right for someone like Jeffery to bad mouth the other contestants and jump through the doorway with his middle fingers flying through the air, something which you never even bothered to censor.

Well the truth about Jeffery has finally been said he needs some class in his designs.
Yes, he may design for rock stars now but their time will be short lived.
And Jeffery will grow old. New rockers will not want an old guy designing for them.
Why has Jeffery been around so long?
He is the Santino of 2006 or good TV.
People will be so happy when he is drop kicked out of the competition during fashion week.
What is sad?
Kane or Robert should have been there with Michael and Laura.
The true excellent designers of Project Runway 3.
By the way for PR4 get some new judges.
The ones we have are jaded, boring and have either forgotten what real fashion is or are afraid of the producers.
Heidi had better apologize to plus size woman before she comes back apologize over and over and over........

I think Michael and Laura are the best designers this season and I liked both of their coctail dresses. They stood out to me in the previews before this season started, just by the way they were presented.
I am scratching my head why they brought Angela and Vincent back...and those dresses were horrendous along with Jeffrey's. But looking at the episode again, the classic moment of this episode was the expression on Jeffrey's face when Angela walked in. I thought to myself, this was his payback...I certainly didn't think Jeffrey should have won the couture challenge...as how many famous people show up for events wearing plaid? It looked like a kitchen curtain redone...
If Uli makes one more dress with a wild print, she'll be auf'd...We know she can do it and does it well, but we need to see something different. Not more of the same old same old. Jeffrey does enough rock looks, we need something different.
Angela..those puffed skirts and granny circles may work in rural Ohio, but it doesn't work in NYC, Rome, Paris, Tokyo,London, Milan..etc...
Sad to see Kayne go, but his shining moment was making the gown Miss USA wore to Miss Universe Pageant...He was an interesting character, but he just didn't understand the challenge rules...
I would like to see Michael or Laura win..either way, I'd be happy.

I am mystified by Project Runway. This is the first season I have watched it, and it will be the last. I may say that I am as mystified with Project Runway as I am with the world of fashion in general. I do wonder what the paradigm of talent may be. If I were to pick a winner, that would be Laura. Michael is a close contender, but he has not yet achieved Laura’s refinement. She symbolizes what for me is true design, beauty and functionality, which I believe is far removed from the extravaganza of any given haute couture runway. Sir Anthony Eden was considered a very elegant man. It is said that he confessed having given his butler a suit that he wore only once. He wore it to a session in the Parliament and everyone complimented him for the snappy look of the outfit. He thought that the suit was too eye catching to be elegant. Laura’s outfits are not eye-catching, but the people who wear them are. She creates clothing that makes people relevant. You can only achieve that with a true sartorial talent, and also with the talent to create in-temporal looks. Fashion, Oscar Wilde said, is so horrible that we are forced to change it every six months. Think of all the fashion icons that the pop culture reveres. They are not confined to passing fancies. They all wear the kind of boring clothes that the judges seem to abhor so much in the runway. I often wonder if their true natures are worth the mystique that their images conjure or if everything is nothing but the merit of their tailors and dress makers. As for designing for oneself, have any one ever known any designer who does not design for him/ herself? All designers are there because they want to save the world from its bad, stale taste. Only a few manage to do so, think of Coco Chanel. Is there anything more identifiable than a Chanel dress? And still, she achieved a revolution by making women look effortless impeccable. Does anyone remember Poirot? He was the reigning designer when Chanel came about. I understand that he had an exuberant talent.

Okay, so I'm the only one who likes Jeffrey, I guess. I started to like him during the recycled material episode because he showed so much creativity with the materials and the colors. I liked his mother, and when she choked up talking about how Jeffrey had changed his life, it made me realize that he is the type of person who hasn't had an easy time. He can be very cold and uncaring, but that could be from some of the hard times he's been through - he is very honest and not politically correct, but that honesty may have been what turned his life around. Granted, some of his projects have been very edgy, but they have all been original designs.
I also like Vincent - if I had to spend time with any of those people for a long period, I think he would be the most interesting. His design for Uli's mother was very nice and I also thought his black and white would have been very attractive if the original model he had sized it for had been able to model it. I think he would listen to his clients and make a special effort to appreciate their strengths than most of the others.
Michael puts together a good look, Laura can design for the the more classic crowd, and Uli can use colors and prints very well, but if you're concerned with original forward-looking design, don't overlook Jeffrey.

I howled with delight as he chugged his glass of champagne after learning that Vincent and Angela were being reinstated for the cocktail dress challenge. Vincent and Angela likened to cockroaches--what a riot!
Finally, Laura! What a lovely dress. Michael, gorgeous overall presentation, but more white than black and white. Uli and Jeffrey, you need to do something different for the next challenge or one of you is going to be auf'd.

Michael and Laura are by far the best- I hope we get to see both of those collections in their entirety- the other two I could really care less about- I'm sure Jeffrey's line would be interesting but not terribly attractive, while Uli's would be 13 lovely versions of one dress. I love Kayne so much and I really don't think that he deserved to go. First of all, throughout the episode he said 'a dress with black or white fabrics', and no one had the decency to correct him, knowing what the consequences would be if he never was.Second, Kayne tried so hard to stray from his borderline tacky ways of sparkle and shine to make an ultimately chic, and purely modern cocktail dress. However, Jeffrey's creation (I can hardly call it a dress) was effortlessly grotesque, and was nothing close to cocktail-wear. Every week, he goes out of the box to make something 'different'. It's becoming sickening. Not to mention Uli, who has only had two designs throughtout the competion, altering them with colors and fabrics. Am I really the only one who has noticed the fact that everything she has made has looked exactly the same? It seems as though she only knows how to braid things and choose nice prints. In my eyes, her dress was nowhere near good enough for her to continue. All in all, the judging seems to be getting worse and worse with every episode.

Kayne was a prime example of the glitz and fun those of us south of the mason dixon appreciate in our formal wear, and because he's not stuffy like Laura, or a complete mess like Jeffrey they can him. Anyone without the NY/LA asthetic gets trashed on this show. Kayne and Michael have been my faves since day one. Great people as well as designers. I think the judges base much of their decisions on whether or not they like the person, not the design. It's amazing how the same people who purchase M. Kors clothes and Nina's magazine differ so greatly in opinion with them on fashion. Guess I will stick to M.Kors' purses, and cancel my subscription to EllE. After I cheer on Michael to the finish, I will not watch another season until they get new judges or come up with a more objective scoring system that they share with the viewers!
Also Santino was a RIOT (come on the Tim and Daniel storyline... hilarious), Jeffrey is Mean. I could give a crap about Angela's mom; he had to design what he wanted or end up auf'd for pleasing his client and not the judges, but now he's just unleashed his evil upon the entire cast. There Is a difference, so please don't compare the two.

I thought Laura's was the most similar to her show pieces and the least original. Uli went in some different directions with more solids and only some floaty dresses. Jeffrey managed to tone it down a bit although some of his material choices, (what's with the green barbershop pole dress?) were questionable. Michael's collection was the most interesting, I thought. He had some pieces which were true to his time on the show, but some of his others were awesomely different. He used some material that was incredible on the shorter dresses he designed. Wow! His bathing suits were so original too. Michael has shown that he is the true winner. Hopefully, PR has the integrity to go with the true winner and not look for the controversy. If not, then Project Runway, you are OUT!

I thought her black-and-white was a good modern cut , but the black lace over white, in my opinion, still aged her creation, and gave it a neglicee (sp?) or night-gown-like quality; and then the "matchy-matchy" purse to go along with it, I'm surprised Ms. Nina didn't comment on that! My picks for teh final 3: Laura, Michael & Uli, I am really glad to see Michael this season. It is so very nice to see a breath of fresh air. Plus it's nice to see someone other than of lily white persuasion to be represented. I think many people overlook or discount the contributions that African American's make to our society. Project Runway has benn so white for so long. Yes, wh have had the asian Girl (chloe) the edgy hispanic guy (Santino) but I really want to say that Ithink Michael is the real deal.
Laura is extremely talented. Highly intelligent and knows how to design clothing for women. Basic pieces with flair and pizzaz. I would love to see her win and be picked up by Liz Claiborne, Ann Taylor something along those lines.
Uli, Yes she is talented and can clearly do great things with prints. It's very clever to braid things or twist them, and certainly to be able to mix and match prints takes someone with a good eye. But I just don't see her as a clear winner.
Jeffrey, what can we say, I think they are carrying him for the comic factor. I mean does anyone really take him seriously??? The guy is a joke. I remember his mother saying he used to be homeless, drug & Alcohol addicted and how proud she is that he's clean. I still see those same tendancies from him, he may be chemically free, but he still has a toxic personality. Give him a kick in the rear and send him on his way!!

Seeing the runway collections has really changed my perception of the designers. I really thought Michael had it in the bag, but I just didn't see anything special in his designs for Fashion Week. I was horrified to see Vincent and Angela back! They should be banished to fashion hell for decades upon decades. Michael should win hands down. Uli and Laura are the same over and over, and Jeffrey... blah. Rock star! Whatever! Kayne was way overboard... Michael!!!!

This challenge was definitely challenging for the fact that you had to use no color and all the fabric. This episode exposed those who have problems with proportion and styling and execution.
I do agree that Laura should have been the winner. Her dress was definitely fabulous with the lace, sparkles, and feathers. Her extra fabric was used to cover the bag which looked fabulous as well. Don't get me wrong. Michael was wonderful as well. I would have been happy if he won. Both dresses were the ones I would definitely wear without a doubt. In fact, is Michael going to make that dress available when he creates his line? I would definitely purchase that in a heartbeat along with the Pam Grier outfit, the recycling dress, okay just about everything he's made the entire season.
I hope he uses the money he won from the Fan Favorite contest towards starting his line, especially if he happens to not win the show which would be heartbreaking.

I think Kayne is such a cutie, and he seems to have a wonderful personality as well. Kayne needs his own blog here, as well as his own photo gallery so we can look at him.........and his fashions;)

I love watching Project Runway. I think michael is great! An attractive, young black male that can design and not be super girly-like. He's handsome and I love his youthful design. I would definately wear his line. Taj
