Episode 9

September 7, 2006

Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3

“I love Paris in the springtime.
I love Paris in the fall.
I love Paris Project Runway when it sizzles,
I love Paris in New York City, fa shizzle.”

The Challenge is to create a couture gown (in two days…yikes). Catherine and Tim explain the importance of hand sewing and the details that are needed to put over a true couture original. I don’t know about you, but it seems as though Uli feels totally at home in Paris. The other designers, though, seem to be suffering major jet lag. With all the talk of “not playing it safe” and the “hand work” by Tim, all of the designers take the (crazy) route of playing it safe. What’s going on? Have their ears not popped from the long flight?

There goes Kayne. Off to pageant land on a big lacy golden boat. Laura (in her best Marie Antoinette) worries, “iz head will be 'anded to 'im on a ridiculous platter.” Kayne is dancing with sequins in his eyes so even Tim is wasting his breath.

Hubby and I debated this one. . . he loved Kayne's "OTT" (over the top) style, I hated it. He hated Jeffrey's design but I predicted it would win, only because I thought it was edgier and riskier than the other designs.

I'm very, very, very glad Vincent is gone, although I think it should have been sooner. (Don't know why, but his designs and his personality bugged me, although I know there are plenty of people out there who like Vincent and his designs.)

I'm having a hard time coping with Kayne right now, mostly because he seems to ignore the feedback that Tim gives him. If designers don't listen to feedback from experts or from clients, can they really be *that* successful? I know that the designers should stay true to their vision, but if their vision doesn't sell clothes how long will the designer stay in business, you know? Just my 2 cents.

Stop picking of Kane (okay, so I spelled it wrong). If I was 50 lbs. lighter I'd wear that dress. Thank heaven Vincent is gone, I liked the comment about his ego... Though I have to say that I would have preferred to see Jeffrey go before Vincent. He (Jeffrey) blew it for me with the mom project. I hope that he dosen't talk to his mother like that, but then again, he seems to talk to everyone like that. Don't care what he has been through, the way he treats people is terrible. I will give him credit, I didn't see a drink in his hand at anytime liquir was served. All in all love seeing all the different designs each week.

The judges seem to be inconsistent in their criteria. In episode 8, Kayne was given grief because of his "ridiculous...Elvis costume." Meanwhile, Jeffrey designed an outfit that was equally a costume ... it looked like a Stones outfit from the 1970's, nothing fresh or new ... and he won!! Ouf! Uli's dress from episode 8 was criticized with comments about "Miami" and "should be worn with flip-flops," while in episode 9 Jeffrey won the event with a dress showing less sophisticated use of pattern & color than Uli's episode 8 dress, and to my mind much more suited to flip flops. And what about those Bo-Peep bows stuck all over Jeffrey's couture dress? No comment from the judges about that little design accent.

I love Project Runway and have from the first season. I am probably the least fashionable person you'd ever encounter in the civilized world but in the immortal words of, some Supreme Court Justice,I can't define it but I know it when I see it.(Speaking of pornography) Am I the only watcher who thinks Jeffrey's clothes are YUCK? If that gown last episode was Haute Couture, I wonder how they have kept in business all these years. It looked like a beach umbrella, the color was hideous and the fabric, Cotton? Let Jeffrey go back to designing costumes (which most of his garments look like) Or perhaps he has a future designing for the Grunge movement.

Jamie Sexton wrote:

I was floored by the kudos for Uli ("grown up", "Original" - huh?!) Am I the only one that thinks Uli jumped in the not-so-way-back machine with this dress: with a couple of addtional rhinestones for beading this is the same dress that she designed for Miss Tara/USA. HELLO! Is anyone out there!!

Bobby wrote:

Vincents mistake was to openly make a play for that French designer. The camera caught it, which made things worse. The gown, although not the best, it was certainly not the worst. The winning gown looked like a picnic tablecloth. Gimme a break about Laura. Clearly due to her preganancy she is being carried.

sue wrote:

I love the show. I wonder if the judges watch the tapes. If not, they should. The Mom challenge showed Jeffrey to be rude and condescending to his client. If I went to a designer and was treated like I would walk out. The judges should view the tapes. The relationship between the designer and his or her client should be a part of the judging process. I think Jeffrey's dress for the Paris challenge was edgy but I think the choice of a cotton plaid was just wrong. I also think that all of Laura's designs look the same. She seem to only be able to design on style and shows no diversity at all.

Amy wrote:

Okay Haute Couture is not supposed to look like something you would pick up off the rack in a department store. They are supposed to be more outrageous, almost fantasy-like. To be honest, Jeffery's dress was the only one that looked like a Haute Couture dress in the true sense of the word. He deserved to win.

MsBossy wrote:

I love Michaels work. I think he is very talented and creative. I really loved his Hot Pink Short Set. I also love the fact that he uses all of the advice that is given to him to his advantage.
I look forward to seeing his designs in stores everywhere soon.

I would spend my last dime to get a piece of his collection.

I really think Uli should have won this challenge, though I still love Jeff's dress. Kayne has some pagent problems. All that glitter has gone to his head or something. :) I am very glad Vincent is gone. His stuff was so BORING. And the skirt DID look like a couch. An ugly couch.

Oh my god!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ithought that Paris looked gorgeous. I loved this episode! I am really happy that Jeffrey won again. His gown was beautiful and it fit his model perfectly. But the best part about this episode is that Vincent is finally gone. He was such an a$$. I thought that he should have been gone a LONG time ago. I thought that kane's dress was beutifull too. Too bad it didn't win. I loved Uli's dress. I thought that it was going to win and I loved the fabric that she had used. Hopefully Laura can win the next challenge!! :-)

Well, I obviously have no taste. (Not that this is a surprise or anything.) I actually liked Kayne's dress. Maybe you had to see it up close to see the OTT details, but I thought the gold bodice was lovely. The only other dress I liked was Uli's, and I would have liked Michael's if he hadn't constantly pointed out where it was flawed to the audience. As for Laura and Vincent, I was totally in tune with the judges, thought they were the weakest, and that Vincent definitely deserved to go.

Jeffrey's dress though...I don't get it. I honestly don't get it. I thought it was misshapen and ugly and that his model looked like someone had thrown a picnic blanket over her body. My husband didn't get it either. We were both amazed to hear who the winner was.

So I'm thinking I must have no taste. Jeffrey *has* produced some lovely clothes, but they *haven't* been for the two challenges that he's won. Maybe Bravo should publish a guidebook that demonstrates what the judges are looking for or something, because right now...I just don't get it.

Carrie wrote:

After reading threw the many comments, I have to agree with the folks who feel that this season is much less interesting... It is true this is TV and it is about the ratings, but the inconsistancy of the judging, the bad behavior being rewarded...and no, you will not get threw this without pissing someone off or some rude remarks being captured.. every one of the designers has had at least one bad remark taped.. so no, Angela was no angel, maybe her mother was a tad bit sensitive. But really, you folks that defend Jeffery is to funny...he would be so far out of the lime light if it weren't for Kevin being kicked off..he is mediocre and rude...but no one stands out to me in this bunch...sorry bravo... I miss Jay!

buckeyegal wrote:

I agree with all the statements about Jeffrey's dress. The fabric would look better on a picnic table. There were so many doo-dads attached it was hard to see the actual dress. If being risky and fresh is couture, I'll stick to J.C. Penney, Old Navy, etc. Jeffrey can just go back to whatever cave he came from. He is an arrogant, nasty, mean little man.

Glad Vincent is gone. That should have happened long ago.

The judging inconsistencies and the added "drama" of focusing on nasty comments is making the show less and less enjoyable. I don't want to see another episode of "Jeffrey dumps on Angela" or whomever else he wants to be mean to. I hope the producers ditch that aspect of the show.

I love the show. I don't usually watch reality tv but this show involves talent which I like. I do not like Jefferys' attitude. I think as a person in recovery he needs to go to some 12 step meetings and work on his attitude more. The saying goes " You have to change your attitude to get gratitude ". He's very imature. He needs to learn how to live and let live and have much more acceptance in his life.

amy wrote:

I thought Jeffrey's dress was one of the ugliest. Please don't let him be in the final three. What are the judge's sudden love affair with Jeffrey's designs. Granted the other four were predictable but Uli, Michael, Laura and Kayne are consistently good. Vincent was a wacko. I loved Kayne's dress with the design in the back. He did a lot work to that dress. What is wrong with sparkle and color? Jeffrey's dress reminded me of an 80s punk girl prom dress. Who uses cotton for couture?

I get a sinking feeling that we're going to be subjected to Jeffrey being in the final 3..

Kayne should have won this edisode with Uli second. Jeffrey was a distant third. Michael did well despite not doing this before. Laura's outfit was laughable and talk about someone that has a mouth She needs to be auf'd next. Her stuff is just plain boring. Her latest was a joke. Vinson, well, we all know he's weird. He should have lost long ago. Too bad Alison isn't still in, she had talent, just lost her focus with the yellow fat minie mouse with the weird spike outfit. Vinson should have gone in that episode. As for all the criticism of Jeffrey, well at least he has an excuse, what about Laura's mouth? I've not heard Michael, Kayne, or Uli criticize anyone, and those are my choices for the top three. The final two should be between Michael and Kayne, and let the judges then pick the winner, although I think the winner in season two didn't deserve it(Daniel was much more talented) after just drifting along week after week. Obviously pure talent isn't what gets someone to the finals. What they need to do is keep a point total and have a runoff with all the losers to let one back in at some point. And if one of those still in has a low point total they should be in the group of losers. Also about the episode with the mothers. That was a bad contest as everyone that picked chose the slender mothers first. They should have simply had a contest for oversized people to make it more evenly contested.

i agree that jeffrey seems like a total jerk. and he certainly showed his @ss on the mom episode. but he's good at what he does. his element is trend setting rock star apparel...
if you look at everything any of the designers make, they all seem to have a "theme".
laura, with her high waists and deep v-necks.
kayne, with his over the top, pageant-esque gowns.
jeffrey, his flashy, edgy, risky, rock star ensembles.
uli, with her patterns and flowing skirts.
and vincent, with his awful sleeves, and mis-matched eras...
the all have their own style.
like tim says, "make it work."
and by that he means, make your style suit the challange. not vice versa.
i like jeffrey. and i will continue to like jeffrey. personally, nothing he does has ever been done before. you cannot label anything he makes as stale.

I was so shocked that Jeffrey won. The entire time I was watching the show I kept thinking to myself, "I think I have PJs in that fabric..." I think as a whole Jeffrey is a little off with his taste (I was even more shocked when he won the jet-setter challenge). I thought Kayne's was brilliant!

This is the first comment I've posted, mostly because I feel compelled to do so at this time. I got hooked on PR last season and have been a faithful watcher of this season. My comment? How is it possible that Jeffery's dress won this last challenge. I understand about Haute Couture not being something you could buy off the rack...but I didn't realise it also had to be butt-ugly to reach that status. My personal feelings about Jeffery aside (No, I don't like him) I felt that it was appropriate that he won the last challenge AND I think he should have won the Recyling challenge. But this latest dress is far and away the ugliest thing I have seen in a long time. I thought that Kayne's dress was edgy AND beautiful. Uli's dress was also understatedly gorgeous. To the judges: What's the deal? Did you fall and hit your heads? Please give us some indication that this was simply a huge misunderstanding. Michael, Kayne and Uli: You're in my thoughts. Ya'll are my picks for the final 3. Jeffery: A difficult past is no excuse for mean, rude behavior. Get over yourself.

Even though the lot of Vincent's designs weren't very good, I thought he had the most easy going down-to-earth personality of all the character/contestants on the show. Loved it when he told that pretentious primadonna Laura (even though she is a very talented designer) "to shove some Harry Winston's up her nose," after she lashed out at him. However, the show isn't about personalities.
While I think Michael is a very talented designer, I don't think he should've have won the second time when they had to design something out of non-fabric materials. I thought Jeffery ( even though he behaves like a nasty little headcase momma's boy), should've won that one. Glad Angela's out. She was a female version of Jeffery w/less talent.

cmon wrote:

Carrie, I miss Jay too. He never seemed to just attack someone to try and make himself seem better like most of these designers do. I love Uli's style and so far her integrity. She does not seem to be involved in any slander. Oops. I also forgot to mention, neither does Michael. They seem to care about doing their best work not slamming anyone else.
I also think that if Jay had to do the "mom project" he would have been sincere and made something incredibly lovely. I loved his reality!!!

After watching a repeat this evening, I think that Laura and Kayne should have gone before Vincent. Vincent was probably dumped because he is the only Hetero Male on the show.

Kayne, Michael and Jefferey will be the final trio with Michael taking the prize...Angela and her Mom are both Psychos, she should have been elimated for her weirdo mom...the apple dont fall farm from the tree...Ulis was the closest to Couture in the true sense...btw - Nina is Hot!

Well I loved Kayne's dress. I thought it was the best dress, the color was so pretty! I liked Uli's dress also. What in the world was Jeffery thinking and the judges!!! His dress was so ugly!! I thought that it was going to fall apart! The color and fabric choice was a bad idea and i am not saying this because I don't like his because he is a total butt hole(if you know what i mean). Now his model worked the dress, I guess that is why he won! Vincent and Laura dresses were not cute at all! Now Michael is my favorite out of all of them and I hated his dress. When they asked him to tuck those breast things in the dress was prettier but i still didnt like it much! I hope you do good and the next show Michael!!!!

I love this show and I think all of the designers are most TALENTED....I think Jeffery won the gown competition because of his model, she worked that....not because of the dress; Uli should have won.

Valerie Chapman-Stockwell wrote:

Vincent has been consistently the worst designer. I wish I had that type of ego. Jeffrey's dress was different but costumy. Kayne's dress was not so over the top, if you look at issues of Vogue. The judges are inconsistent about quality and taste. I liked Angela's designs, mostly, but you can't tell me she didn't deserve to be 'aufed' after the 'jetsetter' fiasco. I don't think anyone deserved to win that one.

Connie Butner wrote:

Someone needs to talk to the judges. They are getting tiresome, predictable and no vision. Any one who thinks Jeffery's outfits are better than the others except for Vincent has lost it.
I about laughed my self to death at JefferyⳠso called gown this week.
It looked like Project Runway was being held in Dog patch USA. And Jeffery's model was Mammy Yokem. That dress would be a perfect ball gown for Mammy to wear to the Sadie Hawkins Day Dance. It was that hokey and ugly for him to win was an insult to the others.
VincentⳠcheated with the glue and should have been sent home case closed.
The rest are excellent. You cannot keep Jeffery around for laughs anymore. To do so would put a good designer at risk for going home when they should not.
Fun time is over it is time for Jeffery to go.
All the dresses looked good in Paris because that judge was looking at them with a fresh eye not a biased eye of the ones back home. They need to be shoved into a fresh new view point each week.
Please pass this on to the judges and producers of Project Runway.
Thank You Connie B

Once again, Uli has been robbed of a well-deserved win. Despite the dress being the same basic Uli shape, she chose a gorgeous color and made the dress very intricate and sophisticated. I sincerely hope that she can stay on track and end up in the top 3 at Fashion week, preferably with Michael and Kayne by her side, and not Jeffrey.

Speaking of Jeffrey...okay, so cotton plaid isn't generally a fabric used in making a couture gown, but why the hell did Jeffrey have to go all "Hee Haw Junior Prom Queen" (HHJPQ) with that "re-dee-kyuu-luus" ensemble? On top of that, the slits on the dress were waaaaaaaay too high. (And enough is enough with the Angela bashing).

Sadly, some high slits MIGHT have salvaged a little of the "couch dress" that Vincent made, which was a cute color, but had serious shape and construction issues. The mantra taken from today's episode: Glue is not for hemming.

Rach wrote:

I totally love Jeffrey. I know he has an attitude, but for the type of designing he wants to do, his attitude will get him far. He mostly works with musicians and that is what they are used to. As for his dress last night, I loved it. I think it was part of his "ugly/beautiful" theme he goes for each week. I think he took the biggest risk and it was the most like couture. He barely used the machine for anything. Uli's may not have been print but it looked just like all of the other stuff she has made. Laura's dress was terrible, boring as usual. She makes the same crap every week. I did like Michael's and thought Kayne's would have been nice if he had just toned it down. It is so something you would see on an Oscar red carpet. Don't even get me started on Vincent's. It was not even close to couture. He glued everything on there!!

I have to say this about Jeffrey. His stuff is more high fashion than the others. Most of the crap that goes down the runway at big fashion shows would not be worn by regular people. That is not what they design for. I think that Jeffrey's stuff fits more in the sophisticated fashion world. I also totally think he was robbed in the recycle challenge!!

Ok, I am stepping down off my soap box now!

Jeffrey needs to GO! he is the rudest person I have ever seen on TV. This is someone's Mother, How would he like someone to treat his mother that way. And I disagree with anyone that said personality has nothing to do with competition, who are you making clothes for yourself or customers????? Michael should win! he has talent and personality!!!!

fashionbystander wrote:

Jeffrey's problem with this challenge wasn't necessarily the print, it was all those gaudy accouturements tied and stuck onto it - not to mention it was lopsided (not in an attractive or artisticly asymmetrical way). How is Kayne's dress way "too much" and not Jeffrey's? Jeffrey's was all over the map. Talk about BUSY! There wasn't a focal point to be found. Uli should have won this one AND most definitely the mom/sister challenge. Her's was the best by far. Vincent's was puckered, crumpled and lumpy...and what was up with that flying-Dutchmen, giant collar. It didn't fit the proportions of a sleeveless dress. Sorry folks, don't get where or why some of you think Allison was so talented. Cute, yes - talented, minimally. Michael is talented, but shouldn't have won the recycling challenge. That's the only episode Jeffrey should have won and he didn't (jerk or not). Uli's incredibly talented with fabric and pattern. She needs to let go of the multi-tiered, floor-length dress idea and break out of her mold. She's got the underlying talent to succeed. Vincent should have been the first one auf'd! Thank god, he's a goner. He was nothing short of creeptastic.

It is truly a shame and so sad to say, but win or lose, Jeffery needs therapy and if he doesn't get it, he is going to snap one day and go back to the booze and drugs and an early grave. His personality is caustic.
He is of course my least favorite but I do this thing where I try to find something to like about anyone I hold such contempt for... so far, I'm still looking but he did have a nice momma... of course, she is the one who raised him so that might not be true either. I guess I'll just have to keep watching.

This is my first time posting so will comment on a few episodes and last one. While Jeffrey is very jealous of Michael and Laura (mostly Michael) and can hardly contain his feelings, his work is good; but he should have gone home for making that horrible dress for his "model" mother; it was the worst sewing/designing I have ever seen. Even though we knew he could do better -- that dress should have sent him packing.

As for this episode, for me Jeffrey's was not an original idea and his dress had no detail to it; it was an easy sew. Michael's and Uli's had the highest difficulty level. Kane's was easy as well but was the best excuted in my opinion and he should have one. The back of his dress was beautiful and the piece in it's entirety worked well. I thought the judges would consider the difficulty level (hand sewn parts) of the dresses more that the end product as a couture design cannot be accomplished in 2 days, but they did not. Jeffrey just chose a risker fabric and just sewed easy pieces of big fabric together.

The Paris models were horrible, they should have flown over the American models. They could not walk, had no life or glamour. They were totally boring and made the dresses appear ugly and plain.

All Vincent's clothing were below standard, I cannot believe he stayed as long as he did. Laura's comment hit it on the head.

I do believe Laura, Michael and Jeffrey should be the final three. Uli, of course, is good as well but her clothes are boring. Her designs are always the same and never changes. She has tunnel vision with her fashion sense.

First and foremost I must state that the stale atmosphere on "THE" show is created by using the same judging panel challenge after challenge! Change it around-use some consumers - people who will actually be buying the product.

Second - Jeffery is acting like a complete and total ass ! His newspaper dress was beautiful and very innovative, granted, his couture design a longer version, you guessed it, with plaid material instead of newspaper - talk about stale!!!
I was also appauled at the way he treated Angela's mother - it seems as though he's becoming as rude, crass and crude as Mr. KORS - he already has a habit of using the same technique on his fellow contestants as Mr. KORS uses on them when judging their work!!
The terrible way he talked to Angela's mother should have been reason enough to have him removed from the show - what about the designer who had the manuals - at least he did not offend anyone who was supposed to be a guest on the show!!!!!
Uli's designs are tastefully executed hang well and have some class, as do most of Michaels! Kayne's work is good - he just needs to gain some insight and maturity. Jeffrey should keep designing works for "ARTISTS"!
Laura, unfortunately, should go back to her work as a mother, mother-to-be and architect.
Alison should be brought back and given another chance in place of Jeffrey!
To date: Michael should win, with Uli in 2nd and Kayne 3rd.
It will probably be Jeffrey winning, with Michael coming in 2nd and Kayne third.

I am such a big fan of Michael. I think he is very talented. Although this was his first Haute Couture challenge, I think he did well. (He just needed to believe in himself more and SELL IT.) My choices for the top three are Michael, Uli, and Kayne (I want Michael to win!) To me, they are the top 3 designers. Although Kayne is "pageant happy", I think he knows the true meaning of FASHION, he just needs to continue to be himself, but also listen to advice given to him (compromise Baby). Uli appears to be very good at designing women's apparel, but a lot of her stuff is monochromatic (diversification, sweetie). Now Michael, I think that he is talented beyond his years. He listens to the challenges and he is very good at taking advice. Any challenge given to him is a winner. I truly think that he should have won the "jetsetter" challenge. Jefferey''s outfit was "all right", but it wasn't a winner. Michael's was sharp and he worked it. All I can say is, Michael, Please continue to "Make it work". And continue making those calls to your mom, like the one from the episode with the "HOT PINK MASTERPIECE", she is surely your there for you. You are very talented and I can honestly see your clothes in stores with people flocking to buy them (myself included:) I'll be praying for you.

As much as I hate Jeffrey, I knew he was the winner when we chose those mismatched yellow plaids - the judges were going to reward that kind of risk-taking, especially with the energy marilinda put into the walk. But on a second viewing of the show, I noticed a manniquin in the Paris fabric store that showed a dress in the same yellow plaid. That was when I realized that Jeffrey's stroke of creativity was not as "audacious" as it seemed.

I pride myself on almost always being able to pick the winner and loser of each challenge in this show. But I failed miserably this time--I would have picked Jeffrey's to lose! It looked like someone tried to throw a gown together with some clearanced winter scarves from Gap! I was disgusted with the judges decision. I've seen better looking gowns in low end stores like, "Deb." Uli should've won. She is an amazing designer, and her gown was simply beautiful. Plus, she is kind, and has a higher vocabulary than those who use the F-bomb every two seconds. Also, I think it was really low for the show to fly everyone to Paris, and then send the loser home immediately. How cruel! Angela, you are a trooper and your mother was as well! You both did a great job of handling & working with a difficult and troubled personality! Best wishes to you both!

She definitely carried herself with dignity, unlike a certain tatooed-neck ogre whose name I will not bother mentioning.

I think Uli should have won this challenge. Her design exuded more elegance and sophistication, and wasn't a big jumbled-up mess like you-know-who's.

What were the judges looking at? I LOVED Kayne's dress. It was definitely high class. Yes, the top was a bit "busy" but everything flowed well and the way the lace up back twisted around to the side instead of being straight was gorgeous and unique. As far as Vincent goes, he was trained in Couture? There's no way. That dress was so off the mark. He should have been gone the first week. Remember the hat?! And Laura, her styles are all the same. And this week, that dress was completely hideous. I wouldn't have been as nice as the judges were to her.

His Paris travelling out fit was no more tacky than Jeffrey's so why did Jeffrey's dirty looking rocker outfit win? At least Kayne looks like he bathes!!!! Jeffrey get out of that dry drunk gutter and clean up your body, style, and attitude-its so laborious for you to still feel threatened by Angela.

My husband just loved Kane's, Uli's and Micheal and so did I. To me everything Laura does is the same style she does it good but it's always the same.Vincent maybe in his own little world but some of his designs were not his style for him that shows growth. Jeffery is so rude to everyone he has believed all of his designs were better than anyone else's. I too was hoping after this week he would be gone. Seeing how he handled the every day woman design he's not a designer I would want to design for me . He doesn't understand woman and in my mind good designers do. I was really surprised when his mother did nothing but smooth over his rudeness by telling the other mother he's been thru so much and he's under pressure....."Who Cares" . All the designers are under pressure and I'm sure they have had hard times in their lives too. I really wish someone would really tell him off. I'm talkin about social skills and manners now.His whole attitude turns me off to anything he designs.

Jeffrey's dress was by far the best outfit this week; i'd even go as far as to say it might be the best garment created so far in season 3. The outfit completly exemplifies couture design; it's not something you'd see hanging on a rack at Sears; it's not something the average woman would ever wear. It is a work of art. Like a painting or sculpture it's only funtion is to be admired. The depth of complexity, creativity and (if i my borrow a word from Catherine Malandrino) audaciousness in jeffrey's dress were simply unmatched. Kayne's outfit looked like a slutty prom-dress and Uli's was the same thing we've seen since the first episode. Michael just needs to try harder next time, and Laura needs to think outside of her box. Last 3 designers will be Michael, Uli and Jeffrey.

This is my first season of Runway, and I guess I'm just learning, because I don't get the way the judges change their minds all the time. Jeffrey's outfit was ugly! He patterns mixed that would make Uli shudder, more bows and add on's than Angela's fleurettes, and when the model walked down the runway it was slit up to her crotch - which to me is more tasteless than anything Kayne has come up with. Kayne gets reamed in the jetsetter episode for being too Vegas because he looked like most of the country western stars around today, and Jeffrey wins for something with metal chains lining his crotch? Noticed he had to remove them for the plane ride, so they weren't even there for the Paris judging.

If any actress wore Jeffrey's dress, they'd get put in the "worst dressed" section of any magazine! It made his model look like she had no waist at all, it was big, bulky, and heavy looking and did nothing to flatter his model.

I understand Jeffrey is this season's Santino... the bad boy who will be kept around for the dram and the nastiness he shows in every show. Kayne was the one who offered the toast to Jeffrey's win, yet Jeffrey's comment of "who cares if he gets hurt" was so thoughtless and uncalled for. Does the nastiest person make it to the finals just for the sake of the drama?

It doesn't matter that Kayne's dress was the most fabulous pagent gown. That wasn't the challenge, otherwise Kayne wins by a country mile. Jeffrey was the closest to couture -- it wasn't a dress, and it was a dress at the same time. Everyone else just made standard evening or red-carpet dresses, pagent dresses, with a few extra hand elements and bells and whistles.

And as to Jeffrey being nasty. This is REALITY TV folks. There is no such thing as Reality TV without drama. If anything, Jeffrey is nicer and more civil than most reality tv "villain" contestants on other shows. The made-for-tv-drama by the producers is one thing, his product is something else entirely -- that's all his. Watch the extra clips, you see Jeffrey helping all the other designers, and them respecting him a great deal. Malan, Robert and Alison have all said in exit interviews Jeffrey is the most talented among them.

They are the only ones who have shown flexability and broad styles they can execute well. Michael being more convetional, and Jeffrey edgier, but still commerically viable.

As for this last challenge---what were the judges smoking ? It looked like she should have been modeling for a clown college instead of high fashion. Here's my 2 cents...I am not surprised by the judging. Alison was a nice person but the dress that got her booted out was just horrible. " One day you are In and the next day you are Out"... Judges will only take in account your previous history if there is a tie in the scoring. Alison's model looked like an unfinished pinata.
I hate Jeffrey and his designs. I could care less about his past. Everybody has been through hardship. Does that give us the right to behave like @$$es? I hope he gets booted next.
Kayne...can make intersting dresses but sometimes they look taky. He seems to be one of the weak links from the final five.

I also agree that this is one of the strongest garments in Season 3. There have been many beautiful and/or elegant pieces created (including Uli's couture dress), but sometimes, like Nina said from Season 2, beautiful can be boring. There is always the safe way to dress and look beautiful, but what knocks people's socks off usually is something that is unexpected.

Not that I am a Jeffrey's fan. I hated his garment from the first challenge, and the outfit he designed for Angela's mom was probably one of the worst this season. Very few designers can be ultra flexible. I think Jay is one of the few (her Chrysler Building dress for Banana was soooo nicely done and so polar-opposite from other designs of his).

I like Michael's design so far. I Ioved the jetsetter outfit he created for himself, and I wonder if he would bring in more of the hip-hop flavor into his design for women. The updated Pam Grier and recycled garments were nicely executed, but I wish to see something more than that. I still think his coffee filter dress from the 1st challenge was excellent.

I think most of Laura's garments were fairly good looking, but judges were so right that many of her dresses have been done and done even better. Laura knows how to dress herself, and that's probably the biggest problem of all as it really limits what she designs.

I would love to see the final 3 to be Jeffrey, Uli, and Michael. Then we would get something very diverse and exciting.

I think you are all selling Laura short, though. Even though her designs are similar, they are gorgeous! She can pull a change up when necessary, also- I don't recall a deep v-neck on the Katherine Hepburn update- there just hasn't been a real need to diverge, given the challenges they've had. What about Uli? I love her designs also, but they are variations on a theme as well.

As much as I adore Laura, I think Michael is my pick to win. I, too, loved the coffee filters in episode 1- what about the dress he brought into the audition, with the flower cut-outs? fabulous- consistently good during the show also.

If there is any justice in this world, it will be a Michael, Laura, Uli finale, but I'm thinking Jeffrey will spoil it for one of the ladies!

It's obvious I don't know couture from from a cantalope because I found Jeffrey's design last week to be horrific. It looked like a bathrobe with geegaws stuck on it. Remember when they took Vincent to task for the stuff stuck on his recycled materials dress? Well, Jeffrey's dress made me think he'd taken a page from Vincent's design pad. Vincent deserved to be auf'd this time but Jeffrey certainly didn't deserve the win!

It's too bad there have to be three in the end because I'd like to see just Uli and Michael and the rest can just stuff it. Kayne is a nice enough guy but his designs are uninspired. Jeffrey's designs are niche-oriented and that oughtn't be the focus of the show. And Laura only has one look that she keeps recycling and it's starting to BORE me.

I am also bored with the snarling in the show. I loved HGTV's Design Star because with one exception, the contestants were cooperative and got along and were friends. Project Runway has always had some snarkiness between contestants but this time around it's almost like they've taken out the design element and substituted the back biting. Bleagh!

And, as an aging hippie, I loved Angela's designs. Which I recognize means she didn't belong in the show. My personal style is not couture. See? I do know couture. It's not me and it's not Angela. (I hope she keeps designing because I'd wear her line any day!)

No self-centered designer has EVER made it big fighting the female form for which he is designing. Yves St. Laurent, Oscar de la Renta for Balenciaga-- THESE were designers you could wear, right off the runway. Ditto Christian Dior, and in the U.S., Bill Blass and Norman Norell. With due respect for Tim, a little less "entertainment" and shock value and a little more context would be good here. Finally, to Laura and Ulli-- YOU are making beautiful dresses that make women feel beautiful. That's why we shop! Blass, Calvin Klein, Dior, YSL... you don't have to metrosexual to design beautiful clothes for women... but you DO have to like them. Hopefully the judges will keep this in mind as we go into the finals...

I think he falls into that category. Hopefully, he can do both art-deco AND commerciality so that his bank doesn't bust. Uli's dress was elegant and fit great, but it was kind of been-there-seen-that...Jeffrey's design was alterna-rocker, MTV punk mixed with a flume of champagne, like if Gwen Stephani and Nicole Kidman had a baby dress...it felt very HIM and was very good. Michael did a wonderful job doing something so foreign to him, he should have more confidence. Vincent turned out the same crap he has put out since the beginning. Nothing ever fits. Colors are horrendous. Style is old. How did he last this long? I've noticed that sometimes the judges say the exact same phrase that Tim Gunn or one of the designers say while working on their outfits when judging on the runway, which leads me to believe that they are being "fed" info. Anyway, the credibility of the show has died for me this season. But I'm still rooting for Michael and Laura to make it to the final 3. Michael deserves to go, he is truly a great designer in the making. Laura, I think, makes very beautiful, elegant clothing. I would LOVE to own one of her pieces. Jeffrey's dress has to be one of the ugliest things I've ever seen. The patterns were haphazardly thrown together in a VERY unflattering fit. That isn't couture, it's just plain ugly.

Jeffrey's dress was very reminiscent of some of Santino's creations from last season... And these are not pleasant recollections.

I loved Kayne's dress, and thought the bodice was georgous. (So did Catharine Maledrino, if you remember) I have NO IDEA why the New york judges hated it so much. I think they're setting Kayne up to go home next episode. *weep*

As for Uli- I don't understand how she keeps slipping under the judges's radar with her dresses. With the exception of fabric and smaller details, they have all been so similar. (Floor length, braiding, empire waist, low back, flowing material) Fabric and patterns do not a designer make. This dress was so similar to the Miss Universe dress that I can't believe the judges didn't mention it. But whatever. Since I liked Kayne's dress I guess I have no taste. *shrug*

Angela should've been auf'd back at that Jubilee Jumbles challenge, and was clearly a pain to work with.
I also think he and Maralinda are the perfect designer/model pair.
Michael is also one of the better designers, but I'd hesitate to give him the prestigious word "best." Maybe it's just my youth, but I don't always like the fit of his garments (although that dog outfit was spectacular).
Laura is the most boring designer. She's about as multifaceted as Robert was, and that's saying a lot. Every one of her designs has been made especially for herself, and those plunging necklines have always been a bit too much.
Uli is a wizard with patterns, but sticks to the same basic design for her dresses. Even with the very first challenge, it was the same dress we've come to know very well. She needs to step it up in the creativity department for the upcoming challenge(s). Maybe show us some separates? Or at least some leg?
Kayne is so outrageous. You can tell he started out as a pageant gown designer. The bodice of his last dress and the skirt of his last dress were beautiful separately. Together it was way too much, and the colors didn't match quite right.
Vincent should've been gone long ago. Maybe back at that Twiggy outfit. Or that recycled kindergarten atrocity. He has absolutely no taste. "I've been trained in couture." Nonsense! Obviously, he wouldn't know couture if it slapped him in the face, just as Catherine Malandrino should've done on the boat. His designs were always wrong, and the fact that they "get him off" is even more reason he should not be designing. He had a mental breakdown before, and I think the only reason he made it so far was the possibility of maybe witnessing another. Didn't happen, but at least he's finally out of our designer lineup.

There was nothing redeeming in that. I was surprised that this show would stoop that low. I would have felt the same way no matter who they sent home. Very bad.

Kayne's taste level is WAY off, poor thing, and I am in the deep South, so I can say that. But he sews well, and has a good eye for shapes, so I hope he will take Tim's advice, and tone things down. Love Uli's designs, and I think she has gotten ripped off a couple of times on the challenges. SAhe should be in the final three. Laura will go next - she is getting tired and I can't picture anything else evolving from her classic shapes. Michael, a wunderkind - and such a nice person still. I see him winning. Jeffrey - a mad, pouty, fat necked sore loser! I cannot stand him, and although I appreciate his edgy work (I liked his recycle gown, his work with the Allison, and the couture gown) he is a disgrace to us tattooed rocker types. He is being kept for the drama factor. And Vincent - good riddance! One more comment about his crap designs "getting him off" or "turning him on" was going to make me puke. Can you tell I am totally addicted to this kick a** show?! :)

Jeffrey's creation looked like he got his haute caught in the door. Certainly, it shouldn't have looked like something picked off the rack, but it shouldn't look like something picked off up the floor either. There was no reason or rhyme to this one. Just a bunch of in-you-face plaid looking like the end result of a Pin-The-Tail-On-A-Donkey game. A mess. Can you imagine Nina in this gift wrap? She'd look ridiculous. This season is turning out very disappointing. I have my faves but one of them is gone, another's deigns are too predictable but stunning and the last well ... he just might cinch it.

I am not sure what planet you all live on, but on this one designs such as Jeffery's are fantastic!! I really hope he wins so that I can actually wear something of his. They are much better designs than Chloe's from last season (I still think Daniel should have won...seems like he has with all of the ads and blogs and places I see him, yet no sign of Chloe).
So, to everyone that doesn't like Jeffery's designs, you need to open your mind and eyes to new ideas. I'm tired of the same old stuff everyone else shells out, like Laura's old fashioned duds.

I just saw episode 10 and I'm pissed. They kicked Kayne off and kept lame-o Jeffrey on. I swear if they keep Jeffrey for the final 3 I will never watch Project Runway again! They just keep him on there for shock value. He does the same design every episode and the ugly/beautiful aesthetic he uses is a bunch of BS - he just copies styles he sees around in LA. I am so mad that they kicked Kayne off - his styles were creative and fun. What they did to Kayne was unfair, they singled him out and kept harping on him till they finally eliminated him - those judges are just too thick headed to recognize true talent.

Is "couture" French for "boobs hanging out?" Those of us with boobs could not wear anything that came down the runway. Why can't anyone design clothes that look good on someone of average height and weight who has some degree of modesty?

Michael is the best and I'm totally cheering for him to win it all! He has taste and is so talented, not to mention he's such a great guy! He comes across as so down-to-earth and just plain likeable. Anyone else ever notice how when someone else wins, he whispers "Congratulations" to them as they walk off the runway? And you can tell he means it. Everyone else just has a jealous, pissed off look on their face. Michael was even trying to help Kayne during the last episode with his dress (black and white challenge). Jeffrey is talented but has no heart. Michael will work the hardest to please his clients. I hope Michael wins the whole thing!

I had to post a comment after I read the comment Bobby left. "Vincent was probably dumped because he is the only Hetero Male on the show." Did you see any of the things he made? The only one that looked sort-of okay was that dress he made and won the challenge with. And that had a pretty weird looking collar. In the first episode he put a basket on his models head! A BASKET! WTF?! That man is insane.
As for this episode, I thought Jeffrey deserved to win. His dress was awesome and I would love to wear it (if only I could grow another 4 inches and loose ten pounds). Micheal's was kind of off but I think he would have done better if this weren't his first time hand stitching something. He was nervous. Kayne's was great, I don't think it was too over the top. Laura took her regular boring ideas and added an unusually ugly detail (that collar!). Uli's was certainly more sophisticated than usual, but I think she needs to stray from her comfort zone.
The judges do seem to be judging things inconsistantly. Maybe that's just my disagreeing with their taste sometimes though. Fortunately they were thinking clearly when they kicked off Vincent for that aweful couch like odd sleeved dress he made. My best friend and I cheered on his way out.

I just don't see what's so great about Jeffery's gown? It looked like a kitchen curtain or something that belongs in a country hoedown event. I don't understand why anyone likes that arrogance and nastiness to other designers. He's rude, immature, he's crude, vulgar and disgusting looking. His clothes are typical rock, and that is not what I think of in fashion designing. He's "Santino" on crack! His designs are not that creative and great...he looks like a death warmed over Rolling Stone wannabee. This is fashion designing and that dress was just the worst thing I ever saw...Girls in highschool sewing class could make a better gown than that yellow plaid nightmare.
I really think that the judges gave these last two wins to Jeffery because it would have been unbalaced and biased if they gave them to Michael, who has been more classy, and respectable to other designers. He's kept his nose out of other people's business, did his work and has shown good work. While this gown was not his best, it didn't look like nightmare on HeeHaw Hoedown...
Jeffrey, I'll give you my own personal auf wiedersehen..(however it's spelled)

AM I THE ONLY ONE WORRIED ABOUT LAURA'S DRINKING? FROM DAY ONE WHENEVER A CORK IS POPPED SHE HAS HER GLASS OUT. WITH ALL THE INFORMATION OUT THERE ABOUT BIRTH DEFECTS YOU WOULD THINK SHE WOULD HAVE READ SOMETHING BY NOW. AFTER ALL THIS IS HER 6TH. JUST BECAUSE THE FIRST 5 SEEMS OK DOES NOT MEAN IT WON'T CATCH UP WITH HER. SHE SHOULD TAKE NOTICE OF HEIDI. LAST SEASON HEIDI TURNED DOWN DRINKS AT EVERY PARTY. THIS IS THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE WITH LAURA. I LOVE HER WORK. ALSO MICHAEL'S. I BELIEVE LAURA, MICHAEL WILL BE SHOWING AT THE END ALONG WITH JEFFERY ( FOR LAUGH'S ). I THINK MICHAEL WILL WIN. AT LEAST I HOPE SO!

If this were an honest reality show; jeffrey would have been gone in the second episode at the latest; personally, I would never spend my money on anything he designed and no one with any taste would ever give their money to such a jerk. If he treated my mother the way he treated Angelas he wouldn't walk down the street in daylight without a bodyguard. Shame on BravoTV for allowing him to stay after being so despicable to anyone, particularly a contestant's mother.

Very interesting to read all these comments. Jeffrey really did understand the couture challenge-check the back pages of Vogue sometime. He is a jerk, but it has been pointed out before that attitude is not part of the challenges. I do love Uli and Michael for their integrity and despite the rhinestone addiction, I would wear a Kayne dress anyday!Laura is really hit or miss and I fear her propensity for the one dress fits all challenges approach will drown her.

You'll are so evil if you do not love Jeff. He is so outspoken and doesn't care what anybody thinks. He has his own style and what you see is what you get! I myself am 14 and an inspiring designer and I want to be a mix of Jeff and Santino. Don't hate on him just because he's cool like that! His designs are amazing and original though I do admit he could improve on somethings...but still I would totally buy everything he makes.

I'm really glad that Vincent is gone. I did not like his "turns me on" style and design. My favorite designer by far is Michael Knight and I hope he wins. I hated when Uli took his model Nazri. Anyways I hope he wins this.

i love jeffrey! i dont believe how many people dont think that he does good work. i loved his gown from paris. yes he can be an ass but i think that he isnt as bad as alot of people make him out to be. i think that in the mom episode he wasnt completely in the wrong, he should have handled it better but oh well. i feel like he is the only artist on the show. he has a vision and i am excited to see what he brings to bryant park!

Kaynes' couture dress was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I attend a ball every year and I dress shop alot and there is no dress worth comparing to Kaynes dress. The bottom flowed so beautifully, the top was soo gorgeous on the model. And the way the top tied down and to the side-WOW! Kayne knows how to make a woman look pretty. This show makes me mad when they would cut down Kaynes beautiful dress but they LOVE some of the ugliest, god-awful creations that the others make. I would rather wear a garbage bag than wear anything Jeffery made. And Angela is in her own world. Yes Kayne has made some over the top stuff-but that dress was not over the top. It was perfect! LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT!

I absolutely love Kayne's dress. I think his should have won that coture gown challenge. I can't believe that he isn't in the final. I mean after designing Ms. America's dress I ask myself how didn't he win?? My second favorite was Jeffery. He is very creative and i think the best one out of all of them. He definitely needs to be nicer to people though. Although i wasn't a huge fan of Angela, he treated her terrible. The nest best was Ulli's dress. Her dress was very elegant and probably out of all of them the one that i would wear. She's very unique which is what the fashion industry needs. Michael hit a huge rock in this challenge. If he would've just tucked those two "bunny ears" in his would've won.

I'm still amazed that BRAVO TV spent so much time broadcasting this "stuff" that if there weren't enough 3 Stooges films in their tape studios to show the public, well they might as well put an "Out of Business" sign. It was worst than deplorable. I mean is there another word that is worst than Deplorable? If there is, please use it for me.
Betwen glueing things, paper clipping clothing together, taping, not following instructions, and the hostess'es wardrobe? I mean were there any designs worst than what she wore throughout the series? I believed Tim Gunn's outfit was the same throughout the entire work week with just a few different colors here and there. His attitude and his commanding "Make it happen" statement to each designer just became hilarious and at times made absolutely NO sense at all. With a score between 1-10 with 1 being the absolute worst, I would rate the ENTIRE program as a big loser and would give everyone a -1. The "winner" in this case is the big loser. I can't see their careers taking off from this fiasco. I certainly hope and pray that "Project Runway" will not return again next year. Please spare us! It was an absolutely horrible program series.

The winner is about to be named in just a few minutes (after another 10 minute + commercial break..........) and I just pity the winner. I know he/she worked hard for this "honor", but I'd like to see what he/she is going to be doing in 10 years from tonight? The terrible thing about this is, another event starts tonight. "Top Chef"! Spare Us Please.
So, they told Michael to "mature" and he's OUT??? Unbelievable decision. Just like politics, the majority voted for Michael, so guess what? Just like politics, the majority lost! isn't this a great Democracy we live in? And you guys select "Jeffery?"
I just can't stand this anymore. I'm turning my TV to "Looney Tunes"

Good Bye
