Forget about that klatch of knitters in the corner of your local coffee shop. Knitting is last year. 2007 is all about sewing. Maybe it's the absence of "Project Runway," or the obsession with what stars wore to last night Oscars. Or maybe it's just the fact that sewing makes cool clothes affordable. A sewing machine starts at just $20 at Target. -- Thordis H.

I sew! I made my prom dress last year and I'm working on the one for this year! And really it is so much cheaper than buying a dress and it does take a lot of time if you are a perfectionist but if you get a sewing party going with all your friends then its more like gossip circle and sewing goes by much faster!

I would LOVE to see a show on sewing geared to the novice. I think a sewing class with the right host/hostess could be as big as cooking shows are these days. I recently pulled out a sewing machine I took lessons on in 7th grade. (several decades ago!) I know that I could really use some help! I got bit by the sewing bug again after watching all the seasons of Runway. It made me think I might actually be able to pull something off!
Please bring back Project runway soon. I'm in withdrawal!
Thanks,
Maria
P.S. I would be more than happy to serve as one of your students on your first show!!!

The first network to do an inspired sewing show for beginner-to-advanced home sewists is gonna make a million. You ought to jump on it first. PEOPLE ARE SEWING! They've realized that they can make their own almost-couture garments with their own spark and creativity, that FIT THEM RIGHT, for tons less than the ready-to-wear selections that are out there. I can't tell you haw many times I've seen a runway or RTW outfit that I've liked, then found a pattern that EXACTLY MATCHES IT, then sewn my own using my colors, my measurements, my embellishments. And I've only been at this a year.
Sewing is the hobby of the 21st century. Take a look at patternreview.com, or at all the sewing blogs out there, for proof of this. Turn it into a game, and you've got a lock on it. You could have novices get hoooked up with designers in "sew-off" contests and win sewing machines, sergers, etc... - or novices design their own outfits and win having it mass-produced by a top designer, etc... the possibilities are endless. Hope you're scheming something up!

Sewing is a lost art it seams. I made my own wedding dress last year after being disappointed in the prices of gowns at the stores. I also made my veil and altered my shoes to match. Total cost of materials (silk and swarovski crystals) and all accessories for the big day - under $400! The dress I was looking at would have been $1500 alone!

I love to sew! That's weird coming from a guy but I think that Sewing is making a huge comeback. It's so great to be able to do amazing things with just a few yards of fabric, some thread, and a sewing machine. I agree, there should be sewing classes on tv. I try to learn from Project Runway, but I;m going to be honest, the skills they are using are a little too advanced for me. I watch the "How to Quilt" shows all the time, but the hosts are always older women, no offense, and I can't help but fall asleep while watching them!!

I have sewd for years( over 40) and real love it. It seems a forgotton art and should be revived as there is so much money to save by sewing. Clothes look better, sewn better and I use sewing as my relaxation. There are so many gorgeous fabrics available.
