As "The Big Lebowski" slowly overtakes "Caddyshack" as the most quoted film in sports bars across the land, many Coen Brothers fans were wondering if they'd ever go back to the dark, intellectual films that put them on the map. After "The Ladykillers", I thought we'd never again see the brilliance of "Blood Simple" on the big screen. Happily, I couldn't have been more wrong.
They're latest feature, "No Country For Old Men", is one of the greatest films I've ever seen in the theater. It's beautiful and fascinating and terrifying and stimulating. It's a horror film for the thinking person, and an action film for avid reader. Javier Bardem gives a chilling performance, and Tommy Lee Jones breathes new life into a role we've seen him play over and over again.
I am so glad to have seen it on the big screen, and I'll be sure to see it again before it leaves theater. It really is one of the greatest films of recent memory. But that's just, like... my opinion, man. -- Peter McG.
