They Shoot Polo Ponies, Don't They?

We read in David Hinckley’s column on DailyNews.com that Ralph Lauren is going to be closing down their lucrative Polo Jeans market. Which could be hard: Polo Jeans are everywhere!

Yeah. That turns out to be sort of the problem.

According to Hinckley, Ralph Lauren had licensed its hoity-toity Polo Jeans to Jones Apparel Group a few years back for beaucoup bucks. Suddenly, there were Polo Jeans on every has-been-housewife from Pocotello to Pomona.

Worse, you can practically buy them in bulk from Costco. This saddened the poor folks at Ralph Lauren who prided themselves on being upscale. So what does Ralph do? Ralph buys the name back for $355 million and then closes the mother down. Yep. Just slams the door on Polo Jeans. Rip. Shred. Bam Bam Bam!

So what's next? Hinckley speculates that it won't be long until we see new-and-improved, WAY more expensive Polo Jeans hit the shelves. You know, "premium denim."

Our question is: When is Gloria Vanderbilt gonna bring her jeans back? She was the grand dame of designer jeans back in the 80s. We’d love to see her start a luxury line of jeans for older Americans. We’d call them Geriatrics by Vanderbilt.

Hey Anderson Cooper, talk to your mom, give her something to do with her spare time. She can’t garden forever. We miss her!
