Have you ever heard of Code TV? Neither have we, but apparently it's a new Broadband network built to serve the needs and interests of 25 to 49-year-old urbanites who earn 100K or more -- giving this "upper echelon" group cutting edge info on where their gold-plated kind sup.
The idea began with a group of former MTV Networks executives, including Code TV CEO Joseph Varet and executive producer Morgan Hertzan. Varet claims that this lucrative niche market of young-n-wealthy numbers about 5 million in the US.
"This luxury audience is so valuable and hasn't been sufficiently served by television," Varet told Reuters.
Sniffle. We're gettin' all choked up here. What's wrong with this country, for chrissakes?! Are we so close-minded as to leave all those 25-49 year old 100K+ earners out in the cold? Oh, the humanity!
But seriously, this whole Code TV thing and broadband niche (of which we are arguably a part) makes us wonder what's going to happen to the world as entertainment becomes more and more compartmentalized. If the Young Wealthy have their own "cultural content," and Middle Class White Heterosexuals have their own "cultural content," and African American Males with incomes between $100k and $150K have their "cultural content," and Lesbian Moms between the age of 35 and 38 with incomes of $50K to $75.6K and live in Rancho Cucamonga have their own "cultural content" -- and if we ONLY see the shows and news items and advertising that exclusively pertain to our unique, market-tailored selves; how will we ever know each other?
