The VMAs: Yawn

September 1, 2006

Come on! This is the VMAs! Where are the drunken hijinks? And what's with all the booing?

The highlights:

Justin TImberlake skipped the red carpet. And that made the papparazzi mad. And his opening performance was great.

OK GO and their amazing treadmill performance, done live! They're a YouTube fave.

Hype Williams getting some recognition.

Beyonce coming down from the ceiling and performing Rhythm Nation-style.

And the lows:

Christina Aguilera's "Ain't No Other Man" didn't win a thing. Oversight!

Britney and K-Fed did a video taped spoof of themselves. (And were booed for it.)

The Pussycat Dolls won an award (and were also booed).

And the "rock" bands all had Flock of Seagulls hair. What's up with that?

In other news, platinum-selling R&B singer Ne-Yo had a good laugh about recent speculation that he is gay. ''I laughed harder than I've ever laughed in my life,'' when asked by the AP about the rumor. He doesn’t know how the rumor got started, and he doesn't care. For more on that, you can visit our sister site (actually It's more like our "gay-little-brother" site) at OUTzoneTV.com.

Here’s the one thing we loved. Sarah Silverman, onstage, directed an outreach to Paris Hilton: ''lose weight ... I can barely see the bones in your back. It's gross.'' And then, Sarah said to the AP after the show: ''It's fun and it's exciting, but, like, I just wanna get home and watch 'Project Runway.''' Oh, Sarah Silverman. We love you, too!

the VMAs were really bad this year. I like Jack Black, but I don't know if things just kept going wrong or what but the whole show just seemed really sloppy and with no reason.

The only good things about the show was when Lou Reed showed up (you can't go wrong with Lou Reed) and when Christina sang her but off with no fancy dancers behind her - just talent and that was something that was lacking in the show. Just pure and raw talent.

This was the worst production that MTV has ever put on. In addition to the bad hosting, the presenters couldn't get their lines right. I heard sounds that I shouldn't have heard and the performances were easily forgettable(exception of the treadmill guys). A few people need to lose their jobs in the MTV studios because their credibility is like a negative number right now.

VMA awards sucked! Reason being.......NONE of the big show stoppers showed up. Black eyes peas,Charlie Wilson,Nelly,Jermaine or Janet,Maddona,Mary J Blige,U2,Sting.........I could go on and on.........I think every since MTV Banned Janet Jackson alot of artist are pissed and said up yours MTV.........To have Justin open up was ok being that he is a kiss up.......But it would have been even better if when he sang "I'm bringing sexy back" Janet came out.......then all would be forgiven. Just my thought.

You know I really think the problem is that MTV has forgotten how to approach music. They are now the Make-believe-reality Television Network:ie Luguna Beach and Real World, Sweet Sixteen, Next, etc... They are directing their programming to a small percentage that can hurt them - (pampered rich snobs). Get back to the old Nitty Gritty MUSIC Network. There was a day when they were THE Music Television Network. No More. VH1 may soon pass them - OH THE HUMANITY!!LOL
