We reported yesterday about Kelly Ripa's budding feud with Clay Aiken.
Clay put his hand over her mouth on television, and that's just poor form.
But then this happened ...
On yesterday's "View," Rosie O'Donnell took Ripa to task for saying that Aiken was being disrespectful. And Rosie responded: "Now listen, to me that was a homophobic remark. If that was a straight man, if that was a cute man, if that was a guy that she didn't question his sexuality, she would have said a different thing," O'Donnell said.
Now, lets keep in mind -- Clay Aiken has never said that he's gay. But Rosie defended the lad as if he were out 'n' proud. Uhm …did Rosie just try to out Clay Aiken?
So then Kelly Ripa called into "The View" to defend herself.
"He reached across and covered my mouth with his hands. He's shaking hands with everybody in the audience. And it's cold and flu season. That's what I meant. And to imply that it's anything homophobic is outrageous, Rosie, and you know it."
Rosie fired back that the whole thing just seemed homophobic to her, a gay woman. Clay, who refuses to discuss his sexuality, has so far declined to comment.

I am a fan of both Kelly and Rosie, although I'm a little bit disappointed in Rosie lately because she seems to be a bit full of herself lately. I believe Kelly when she says that it had more to do with a disrespectful gesture and the unlimited possibilities of someone touching your mouth/face. I too would of been angry, even if it had been George Clooney (unless we had just showered together - ummm).

I personally don't care if Clay Aiken is gay or straight - it shouldn't be anyone's business. Putting his hand over Kelly Ripa's mouth - like so many of us want to do at times, as well - was indeed poor form, but shouldn't have caused such an uproar! I completely understand Kelly's reaction and don't think she in any way tried to cast any aspersions about Clay or his sexuality. That phrase has been uttered to many people and has never caused such a controversy. My issue is with Rosie O'Donnel. Why is it she seems hell bent on causing a stir with any little thing that cmoes up? Is she trying to drum up attention for herself? Who cares that she's a gay woman? And what does that have to do with Clay putting his hand over Kelly's mouth? Rosie has appointed herself guardian of all that is or might be gay and obviously feels the need to protect at all costs what she thinks is scared. This entire situation, in my mind, is much ado about nothing!

If Rosie were straight, she wouldn't have found anything homophobic in Kelly's response. Maybe Rosie needs to realize that everything isn't about her and her personal choices. Clay is the one involved and if he has no comment that should be good enough for Rosie.

I think that Clay was being rude, trying to act like
a kidding kind of way, from the beginning of the show
to Kelly.
I believe he has a self esteem issue and cuts others
down to try to make himself look better.
Kelly's great and Clay really has a strange personality.
Also Rosie should just worry about herself.
Just because you don't abide with rudeness, doesn't mean
you are homophobic.
Who knows if he is or not anyway?

I love Rosie and I think she is great, she adopts kids and supports so many good causes. But not everyone needs her to fight their battles. She may want to get the whole story before airing her personal opinions on national T.V.

I can see both sides, but really I think Kelly, being that it is HER show, should not have said something like that on national television! And it DID sound "homophobic" even if she did not mean in that way!

Not only a mans hands over your face and catching something. But you have make up on and Lip stick. You don't want to get up and leave to go to the bathroom. so you can make sure you don't have lip stick across your cheek and then reapply.
I would be a little pissed too.
I think Rosie is getting a little self dout.....hum

Good for Rosie! Thank you for stickin gup to the preatty girl host. Rosie is successful and has more standing in the talk show community (and if she denos't, she should). She's had her own indivisiual, not-sponging-off-of-Regis talkshow, so don't mess with the best.

Let's take the Mel stance -- maybe Clay needs to claim " I was drunk" and go into rehab!! Give me a break. Kelly was polite in what I saw . . . and even heard her with Rosie -- she's hardly a homophobe -- hello! Rosie DOES seem to be speaking out of turn -- homo or not -- disrepecting as it was -- I would have smacked my best friend for covering my mouth! Helllllo!

Rosie just can't stand keeping her mouth shut about anything to do with gays...her defending Clay Aiken and condemning Kelly Ripa and indicating that it was about homosexuality has absolutely convinced me of Clay's sexuality. I had doubts, but thanks to Rosie, the missing puzzle piece has been furnished. I wonder how Clay feels about Rosie "outing" him? It's been done...cats out of the bag now.

I think as do many others that Rosie is out of line and drawing undue attention to her homosexuality and her need to force other to her view. She is a sore spot in the lineup for the View and should be let go for the negative reviews in the future. I bet her comments will hurt the show. Get her out soon.

First of all, I agree with Rosemaire, Clay never once confirmed his sexuality so for Rosie to take the approach and say he is "gay" then isn't that judgmental enough to know when to shut her mouth? It doesn't matter if he is gay or not, so lets just say he is not gay, then to Rosie I am sure she would never have second guessed and probably would have laughed at Kelly's words as did the audience and the guest of the show.
Honestly, Rosie needs to start learning she is old and needs to be respectful of others. She whines of others not respecting her and her sexuality but she is a hypocrit becuase she just proved she DOES NOT RESPECT CLAYS SEXUALITY if he is gay or not.
I would have done the same as Kelly did to Clay and to Rosie and that is becuase I respect everyones sexuality and I have my mind out of the gutter. Just becuase Kelly may be more appealing to some than Rosie, does not matter who is right or wrong, its the actions and the way you handle a situation and Rosie was completely wrong, if she has her oppinions, she should start realizing how to handle them. I hope Barbra fires her soon, I seriously can not even stand The View anymore and I was a huge fan!

Rosie needs to mind her own business. If anyone should have taken Kelly to task it would have been Regis the next day. Please!!! This is so stupid. Rosie needs to fix the problems in her own back yard before she starts criticizing somebody else's. Kelly reacted by instinct. I wouldn't want anyone putting their hand on my mouth either. To say that Kelly's comments were homophobic just shows how homophobic Rosie O'Donnell is!

Nowadays homosexuality is becoming less taboo and people are starting to open their minds when it comes to that... therefore Rosie should realize that homophobia is only an issue unless someone MAKES it an issue. Like how she did in saying that Kelly was being homophobic... i don't care who it was if someone shoved their hand in my mouth after shaking a million people's hands I would get pissed too...

give it a rest rosie. i wouldnt allow my family members to put their hand over my mouth without the sanitizing wash first. who cares if he is gay, straight or otherwise. Unless it is your child you shouldnt put your hand over another persons mouth without permission. Clay's job isn't to give us the details of his personal life but to make music we enjoy. All the other stuff is none of our business.

Good for you Kelly! My prospective is different and stricly from the feminine point of view...I have an equal right to express my opinions as a man does...and any man, (including George Clooney right out of the shower) who puts his hand over my mouth to "shush" me will draw back a bloody stump. It is an arrogant, domineering and demeaning jesture. Gay or straight has nothing to do with it. Period. I used to like Rosie when she had her own show, but she has gone completely feminazi in recent times. I don't think she contributes anything positive to The View and they should replace her. Perhaps they hired her specifically for the controversy...i.e. ratings. Alas, that seems to be a popular strategy for networks and celebrities these days.

Rosie does well for herself eversince she came out of the closet. She's in no mean a champion for gay actors/actresses as she only came out after being speculated in the media for years. There's nothing wrong with how soon or how late a person comes out - it's a personal decision. However, lately, I can't help but to be disappointed with her performances. She sounds a bit too full of herself on the View. But what is disappointing is that I throw my support for her when she struggles with the media and making a comeback. I think it's difficult for a gay person to compete in such public career and I cheer her for each of her successes.
On Dec. 5th she made fun of chinese people by mocking how they sound to her. It's the kind of mockery bullies do to little children on the playground before beating them. Although she felt short of physically harming anyone, her jokes brings back dark memories of being taunted by bullies for many asian americans. This kind of ignorance and insensitivity is what cause to think she is full of herself. She should be held accountable for her action - just because she is a comedian doesn't mean she can make racist remarks like that. As Americans I can't stand for such ignorance from a public person. I will watch to see if she really is a racist through her future conducts and the people she associates herself with. She's a disappointment to me at this point...

I don't care if Clay is gay, what I do care about is the fact that Kelly Ripa thinks she is something more than she is and that's second fiddle on a morning talk show! If you've ever watched that show at all since she's been on, you would know that there are times I want to put my hand over her mouth and shut her up! I feel Clay was just in the moment trying to be funny and it got a little out of "hand"! SO WHAT! I've seen Ms. Ripa do some immature, and stupid things since she's been on. I've even seen Regis' frustration when she's cut in on interviews. So what's she so uptight about? The fact that Clay called her on it on national TV? Get over it Kelly. If you wanted to take him to task you should have done it off the air. He's not a talk show host, and apparently your not either!
