Peter Boyle has died at age 71.

Best known for his role as the monster in Mel Brooks’ 1974 Young Frankenstein, Boyle most recently played the role of Frank Berone on the long running sitcom ''Everybody Loves Raymond.'"

Boyle won an Emmy in 1996 for his guest-starring role in an episode of ''The X Files,'' and he was nominated for ''Everybody Loves Raymond'' and for the 1977 TV film ''Tail Gunner Joe,'' in which he played Sen. Joseph McCarthy.

Our thoughts are with the Boyle family -- we at The Dish are enormous fans.

What sad news...We watch "Raymond" twice every weknight, especially getting a kick out of Frank & Marie. Peter Boyle was such a great character actor. He was so sweet in that Sandra Bullock movie (CRS!). And, he was the funniest tap dancing monster ever in Frankenstein with Gene Wilder. He had many good years left in him as far as his craft was concerned. He will be sorely missed. My sympaties go out to his family.

    PEACE
