We’re all geeking out today on the news that the big brown cloak Alec Guinness wore in the original Star Wars will soon be going on sale!
Woo-hoo!
According to BBC.com, Angel’s Costume House in London will be auctioning off the Star Wars cloak at Bonham’s Auction House on March 6th. The iconic wrap is expected to bring in far more than its $98,000 reserve price.
Yikes! Our ear hair just curled into Princess Leia’s braid-rings!
The funny thing about this story is that the cloak had been lost amidst the other thousands of “rental costumes” at Angels for 28 years. Unknowingly it was used as a spare wardrobe piece in other films like The Name of the Rose and The Mummy.
Later the cloak was retired to the “fancy-dress” part of Angel’s business where everyday folks rented it for peanuts to wear at costume parties as a “monks outfit.” Then one day in 2004 the management of the costume emporium was cleaning house when the owner re-discovered the cloak – and the costumer on Star Wars confirmed it -- and needless to say it was retired from regular rentals.
Now the Star Wars Cloak can be yours … for a helluva lot of money! (Light saber not included.)
