Worst American Idol Ever?

20070316_idol_320x240.jpg
Entertainment Weekly -- as well as bloggers around the globe -- are asking if this is the worst season of American Idol ever. Could America be tapped out of talent? Could Randy, Paula and Simon just be exhausted by having to be so judgmental all the time? And, does the country care?

Perhaps.

We don't mean to be cynical, but while some of us here in the Bravo offices are absolute freaky AI fans, others are WAY over the Justin Timberlake/Christine Aguilera-wannabe's trilling louder and longer and ... boring-er.

You know something is up when Sanjaya -- recently dubbed "the worst contestant ever" -- is more interesting than who is the best.

In fact, it seems many watchers are rooting for Sanjaya just because he is the worst. Websites (like votefortheworst.com) and Howard Stern are encouraging the audience to help Sanjaya take the crown.

Can you imagine?

The "worst" to be crowned American Idol? It's like art. It's almost biblical. Frankly, if Stern and votefortheworst.com can pull it off and get enough votes to help Sanjaya take it … we're going to keep watching.

Suddenly, American Idol just got interesting again.

American Idol lost its legitmacy as a true "singing competition" when Taylor Hicks was crowned last season. Katherine McPhee was not anything special either...but when talents like Chris Daughtry and Elliot Yamin, in last season's line up, went by the wayside; it's clear that America has bad taste, poor hearing, likes to root for the inferior contestants or all of the above ... Another scenerio is that the show is flat out FIXED! Bottom line is that there are too many variables to measure here to really determine what makes an American Idol. Outside of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood I'm less than impressed with the past winners.

My vote for the worst is the ''show" itself. After Simon, Paula, Randy and the home audience literally shot themselves in thier feet by letting go somebody, who with all her talent and one hell of a voice, won an Academy Award. Whereas the show will not be voted off, in my opinion, all the judges should rotate weekly (Simon, Paula, and Randy would be replaced by 3 other judges one week, and the following week 3 others would relce the replacement judges, but that would not be Simon, Paula, and Randy or any combination of the three judges. Simply put, a new season would start with Randy , Paula, and Simon (who seems to dislike everyone), and after the first show, 3 more judges, and 3 more, and so on, and so on, and so on,.......

Sanjaya seems the worst because of the feedback he gets from the judges, as in "why is this young man singing old songs? It's simply weird." type of comment. He has a smooth, easy, voice for soft rock. Those who think he is the worst should hear him sing, listen to his mp3, watch his audition video, listen, before they buy into the whole "worst idol" deal.

I knew this season of american idol was going to suck when sundance head was picked and the guy who was in the elevator with him was sent home. It wasn't until sundance was being sent home did he return to his original sound that got him on the show in the first place. people were crying about the out takes and how the judges were so cruel it's all crap. those people who auditioned for the show already know what the show is all about. as for the contestants if the show was in the final weeks i would hope to see maybe one male and three females. people need to vote and be fair with their voting. all this rooting for the underdog crap has got to stop. it's like simon said we the american public are the ones who choose the next american idol. so we need to be fair to those on the show who actually have talent. we need to weed out the weak and let the real talent move forward.

this is definately the worst season of American Idol. I Tivo it and fast forward through much of it. the judges did a poor job of selecting the final group of people that the public would vote on. I can't see any of the finalists selling very many cds. I also think the way the voting is done is all wrong. callers should not call in to vote for their favorite. Instead, they should calll in to vote for the person they feel should be eliminated.
I also feel the show is rigged, as someone previously suggested. Last year on the night chris daughtry was voted out I started calling as soon as the show was over and kept auto dialing until the phone lines were closed and I couldn't get through even one time. I found that really strange.
The bottom line is that this is the worst season ever. Maybe the public needs to send a message to the producers by not voting for anyone. Wouldn't that be funny.

I love AI. It's one of my favorite shows but I also get so frustrated sometimes. I wasn't a big AJ or Brandon fan but I still think they were way better than Sanjaya. I think he's too young and lacks the confidence and experience. I think the fact that America can vote as many times as they want plays into a big factor. Websites that vote for worst obviously take away from the true spirit of the show. If they could do something about how the voting works I think we'd see a big difference.

Everyone keeps on talking about Daughtery and how he was booted off Idol before he was supposed to. But look at the bright side. He has a cd out that has gone double platinum. He probably has more money now then if he had won American Idol. Daughtery has sung the national anthem on national tv for the Chicago Bears chanpionship game. He was on News Years Eve program. What more can he really ask for.
As Simon said, Randy Paurla and Simon brought these people to the american public and it is not their fault that they were voted off. Why don't we blame ourselves for the wrong people being booted off. This year Idol stinks I will admit and Sanjaya needs to be run out of dodge. And I wish some of the people who were sent away could come back but they still might be able to get record deals. Look at McPhee and Pickler and Bucky. Pickler and Bucky were knocked off and they have records. So they don't have to win Idol to be famous. Well, thanks for listening.

Lay off Sanjaya....he's 17 and adorable and has a sweet personality. Something that can't be said for Simon, Paula, Randy and the Howard Stern wannabe's. They are doing more damage (psychologically) and should be ashamed of themselves for their behavior. Also, who was it that gave Sanjaya the pass to Hollywood in the first place? Paula should take a good look at herself, what a phony. Simon is just downright mean and Howard Stern is a mess and has absolutely nothing to offer...anybody...yuk, that's a face only a mother could love! Can you imagine waking up to that every morning...get me outta here!

I do not know what AI you have been watching ? Sanjaya's audition video was not that great, his song choices are awful and just from that I would not listen to his MP3. I have ears the boy is just not good enough for AI past or present ! Have you heared of kelly? fantasia? ruden? clay?beau? JENNIFER? And this is just a few names off the top of my head. The present contestents Doolittle, Keyshia, Stephanie. His is not even in there class, but in his defense none of the guys are any good!! For the age facter the other girl her name escapes me, but she is even better so age is just a number lack of talent covers any age.

This year's cast is wholly lack-luster. I have a degree in voice and teach singing and all I can think is "This is the best they could find?!?!" Tens of thousands of TALENTED singers auditioned from across this country and they cast these unremarkable few? I have friends who have more talent in their little fingers than most of this year's cast.

Everyone knows this is a ladies race. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Melinda. Talent and grace--a class act all the way. Jordin's good, but not as good. Lakisha can sing, but darn, her look is just so... ghetto? Is that what she's going for? I like Gina, but she seems a little green to be a hardcore rocker chic--she'll need to ripen quickly (to Bo or Daughtry caliber) if she's going to have a chance. Stephanie seems like she's got all her ducks in a row--I just can't figure out what her X factor might be that would set her apart from Melinda and Jordin. And Haley's WAY out of her league--pretty girl, but I'm not sure why she's in the top 12.

Blake's charming, but Justin Timberlake is Blake to the Nth degree--can he really bring anything new to the table? Same thing to Chris Richardson, only moreso. I liked Brandon--it's too bad his first performance was such a disaster. Sanjaya's a mess, every which way, but there are plenty of talentless people who make careers on image alone. Phil seems nice and has a decent set of chops, but I don't see "Superstar" in him. And I love watching Chris Sligh. He's my favorite guy, just because he's wicked funny and really has the best natural voice of all the gentlemen.

And while I'm at it--WHY THE DIANA ROSS WEEK?!?! Can you think of a singer who has a more boring repertoire? Yuck! Most of the contestants did poorly, but partly I think they were set up to fail with those awful songs!

Just my two cents. Oh, and I think it's silly how people keep talking about how the show's rigged. Gimme a break.

I have been an AI fan since the middle of season 1. It seems to be going downhill. The highlight is the tryouts before Hollywood. They need to come up with something different or the faithfuls will start to lose interest. I also agree with the posting made by Sharon when she said we need to vote for the person to be eliminated.

Wow!!! I'd have to say that I agree this years American Idol isn't a good one... It's by far the worst that it's ever been. Personally I think the show is fixed... I'm not going to bash Sanjaya (even though I think he stinks worst then last week's leftover tuna caserole).. The thing that gets me is even he knows he stinks and even he can't believe he's still there. So too me that says there's something wrong ... Hey Sanjaya do the right thing and drop out of the competition.

I have to agree with the majority. American Idol started to doing well. But has fallen flat on it's buns as of late. Taylor Hicks flat out stinks compaired to some of the other talents that were eliminated last season. This season, I can't say I have heard anything special or progressive from anyone there. Does Americas
Votes really count? I'm not so sure. If they did then why are some of the most successful talents onces that were voted off? Answer that Simon!

Yoooo Hooo!!!! Keep in mind THIS IS A TELEVISION SHOW!!!
The final contestants were selected based on which demographic they could pull in for the audience. Please don't forget that Sanjaya's audience is teenage girls. Has anyone ever tried to pry a phone from one lately? (translate to- THEY VOTE). Skinny pretty girls draw male viewers between 18 and 29, while Sundance's audience are musically mature. (translate, will BUY music). Chris Sligh brings in the mid twenties- college age ..always into music crowd.

Each contestant had to fulfill 2 requirements. Who will watch them on tv and can they possibly be turned into superstars.

The reality is they need to send home everyone buy Lakisha and Melinda so they can do a sing off and be done this season.

I have to say, besides a few good voices, there aren't very many good ones in this season's AI, but I have also been watching the American Idol Rewind on the weekends, and besides Kelly, the Season one contestants were awful! It has been almost five years since that season, but I sure don't remember them to be as terrible as they sound. The judges have gotten much pickier since then too. Possibly it is the music ed degree that I have gotten since then that makes me more judgmental, but the talent this season would overshadow that of the first, with the exception of Kelly. She is still amazing.

Okay, well here's what I've got, Sanjaya Malakar is the best idol up there, out of the guys anyway, he's my all time favorite, and he has that musician quality, who ever said to his voice? He's got the exceptional voice that most musicians have unless you're a legend like Barry Manilow or something, but he's also got the personality quality! That's what America needs, Sanjaya is the best!

I am shock that Sundance Head and Stephanie Edwards who have
great voices and styles were sent home and Sanjaya made it through this week. I thought American Idol is suppose to be about the best singer and performer. You could see by the expression on Sanjaya face.Even He thought it was time for him to go home.
Oh WELL--THANK YOU for allowing me to express my opionion and best of luck to all the contestants.
