Genius Highlights

Stylists hate it when a client brings a photo of a movie star and says, "I'd really like to look like this." This episode of "Shear Genius" has plenty of hair icons to go around. Do the stylists have what it takes to turn a raven-haired model into a platinum blond Gwen Stefani? Check out the photos below to get a better idea of which stylists got it right, who missed the mark, and the ones that attempted the impossible.

I thought this show was going to be fun, but a little more informative. You made the stylist's think that the task HAD to be done, which was unfair. It's ironic that the man with the most cutting experience, the oldest man, the man who would try to do his best to please the judges, misunderstood, tried his best and was booted. Also, it's ridiculous to think that all cutters know color or visa versa. What the hell does Ms. Smith know about cutting hair, or even styling it. She's been having her own hair done for her in the same style for over thirty years now. Sheesh!

some of the request from the models were just impossible in the time alloted. Any experienced designer would know that ,Ms. Smith has no idea of what being behind the chair is really like.

I agree, WHAT DOES Ms. Smith have to do with the industry???AND it's sort of far-fetched to give a 2 hour time limit on basically color correction that would take way longer!oh, and the show should have guest stylist judges that arent celebrities or well known in the business to give thier professional opinion as well...hmmmmmaybe in some future episodes...????

it was a challenge ye. nay sayers. part of the challenge is to see just how professional and IN CONTROL you are. it's not always about the end result, it's about how you got there. They knew they had 2 hours and the judges wanted to see what they would do with that time. I feel anthony won because he was realistic in his end result in the time allotted. Although I do feel as if Tabatha should have won as she had the most dramatic change and did the most with the time she had. She acheieved the clients goals.

each judge like on idol is there to bring a unique aspect to the judging. smith is like simon, not in biz but can spot good or bad from a client perspective.

Oh my goodness, perhaps I am simply reliving my own personal beauty school drama by pointing this out, but just like my instructor did when I used incorrect industy verbiage, I felt the hair on the back of my neck come to attention (via the erector pili muscle) when I read the caption on page two of this recap, "Lacey mixes dye to create the perfect shade of blonde for her manniquen."

When I was in beauty school it was more than just a bad hair day to use words like dye, pluck, wash and paint. Those of you that heard it too, say it with me.

We don't "dye" our hair, we color it. We don't "pluck" our brows, we tweeze them. We don't "wash" our hair, we shampoo it and we never "paint" our nails, we polish them.

Additionally, I know I am "splitting hairs" here, but in that shot, Lacey was actually using a lightening product that does not contain dyes.

I know this is not the BravoTV media artists challenge, so it is of course forgivable. I just needed to speak out to feel that I am putting my beauty school education to work in yet another way especially since I'm still paying off the student loans!

The show has quickly became addictive to me. It's exciting to see a show about one of the most incredible industries out there. Thanks for providing a great vehicle to illustrate how hard stylists work to help others discover the beauty that truly lies within them. I'm sure that as the dramas unfold, any stylist watching will empathize with the contestants as they have found themselves in the exact same situation at least once in their careers.

Thanks for bringing the Hair Show to my TV!

I think Tabatha is the best stylist on the show. It's so obvious her experience and talent puts her above the rest. They try to make her look negative, so It's not so obvious she is great. I know her personally and can attest that she is so funny and genuine in person, and the way they present her is totally false. Her first four cuts/styles were all great and they had no reason to rank her last. I think everyone needs to pay attention to her because she is extremely talented and dedicated. Her style is awesome and she is so ballsy...such a refreshing personality...i wish everyone could know her like i do and not judge her based on an edited tv show. Go TABATHA!

I was impressed that these stylists were able to bleach out a doll head from level 4/5 to an 8 in 2 HOURS!! I give props to each of them. However. I'm having a hard time understanding why a stylist who specialize "only" in cutting/coloring could be a top stylst?

And I also feel like the judges need a switcho chango.
